My recent result of biopsy after the colonoscopy indicates epithelial dysplasia. My doctor just advice me to continue taking the mesalamine (Asacol) Do i need an another urgent medication/treatment for dysplasia? What should be my next move?
My suggestion would be, if he says he can ... er... release... any time he wants as he claims, tell him to get on with it after 30 minutes or so because you're getting tired! :P Four hours.. good lord woman. That would kill me.
If this truely seems to be a problem with him, definitely have him see a doctor about it. He could have a prostate problem which is very dangerous.
I agree, with the bypass surgery, you will have trouble absorbing many things and the extended release medication is more than likely, not going to work. If you can't take the fentnyl patch, (I don't know anything about the morphine patch) maybe check into Oxycodone, they do make it in liquid form that may be a good alternative for you. I have read about a study in which Boswellia was used in conjunction with Mesalamine. My gastroenterologist knows notheing about herbs, but is open to information that I can give her. What is available? Are there any interactions with boswellia and mesalamine that I should be cautious about? Are there any precastions about its use?
What other symptoms are present? Mesalamine or Canasa suppositories works by preventing the production of substances that cause the inflammation of the colon. The usual side effects include diarrhea; dizziness; gas; hair loss; headache; mild stomach discomfort or pain; and nausea. The sour taste could be indirectly related especially if you have other gastrointestinal issues like acid peptic disease or gerd.
There have been a few cases of liver failure possibly related to the use of mesalamine (the active ingredient in Asacol HD), but I haven't read anything about fatty liver as a side effect.

I've been taking two 15mg. delayed release morphine for a month for shoulder pain. The pain is gone and I want to stop taking the morphine. Should I cut down to one a day for a week or so then stop? I'm afrain of withdrawal even though it's a low dose. If I get side effects what should I do. I don't want to start taking more morphine again.
