1339419 tn?1275966042 My short term memory is not 100% as it is, although it is not as bad as my long term memory, and when my blood pressure is really high ( 160/100+ ) I seem to have short term memory loss that increases with the increasing blood pressure numbers. Is this a direct side effect of high blood pressure, others with hypertension having suggested it effects their short term memory, or is it confined only to myself because of my memory problems?

Avatar f tn The frontal lobe is associated with mood and memory. Thus any damage to this lobe can lead to long term memory loss, mood swings, talking too much, and energy bursts leading to over activity. Long term complication is chance of schizophrenia. There is a possibility that your friend has auditory and visual hallucinations typical of schizophrenia that prompt him to take actions he is taking now. Avatar f tn I agree that she should see a psychologist, maybe more than one, including one who will do neuropsychology testing on her. This is a comprehensive assessment giving good insight as to how the various parts of the brain are functioning. If evaluation by psychologists does not give an indication as to what could be happening, then perhaps she'll need treatment for a psychiatric disorder as well as MS. More details would help here, and I'm sure more people will comment.
Avatar m tn But in the meantime, while you wait for a sleep test or to see a doc to figure out what might be doing this to your memory, let us say you know on your own that you don't sleep very well. Students are freaked out with what is about to happen, so you ain't the only one under stress. (2) Pay attention to the test itself. It's going to be talking about things you're interested in, so the questions will jog your memory about all the fun stuff you learned about, so take some moments to recall the interesting info the question brings up in your mind.
