We read that the sputum test could come out negative for MAC, but that the doctor would continue to treat with antibiotics for an additional six months. My doctor did a biopsy that showed no malignancy but the lab threw away the sample to test for MAC and my doctor says another broncoscopy is the only way to get a good sample and I don't want to go through another one. The doctor wants to go ahead and treat me for MAC for 18 months with 3 antiobiotics. I hesitate to do this without a definitive diagnosis because antibiotics are extremely hard on my stomach. I am baffling to my doctor because I don't have all the symptoms.

Hello Everyone, The viral titer results came back from my December 26, 2014 blood draw. The result is still "TND" or totally not detectable. This lab Merck uses has the most sensitive test I've read about, their lower limit for harboring a "not clinically significant" level of viral particles is 15IU/ml. I was at 17IU/ml after only 18 days on the meds, from a pre tx level of 585,000+IU/ml. Merck has a sure winner on its hands it would appear.

She is taking hydralazine 50mg for high BP, Sertraline 25mg for depression, Nitrofur Mac 50mg for UTI, Donepezil 10mg for memory loss, and Novolin for high blood sugar. We also have a PT that comes to her house but that is not really helping.
