Avatar f tn well it is not just on things that we want him to do....he can't remember his letters or his bday....even if he is looking right at you and you get him to repeat it he can't remember it just a few minutes later.....
Avatar n tn I found that my son has Auditory Processing Disorder, working memory and auditory memory retrieval difficulties. That was why he appeared to learn and then forgot because it was rote learnt and stored in short term memory and not in long term memory. Also the auditory processing difficulties meant that he was storing incorrect word/letter sounds that was confusing the matter even more. He also has difficulties with receptive language.
Avatar f tn Dyslexia is actually somewhat common, President Wilson had it, and it is VERY hard for those people to see letters in any sort of organized way and they get words out of order, so it takes them three times as long to learn something. I think a professional who understands learning differences could be recommended by an elementary school nearby, it's good you've recognized a possible problem now.

751951 tn?1406632863 I thought I was a complete idiot when I walked out of the place. The test memory and recall several different ways, i.e. lisitng a bunch of words and then asking you to repeat as many as you can. Then later during the testing, they ask you to repeat as many as you can after they've administered a couple of other tests. Another test is repatinga series of nubers or numbers and letters and categorizing them numerically and alphabetically in mentally before repeating them.
Avatar n tn What can be done after 2 years of the IEP program for a language processing disability? My child still doesn't know all his letters or numbers. What else could be wrong? Frustrated Dee This discussion is related to Daughter has trouble retaining information..
219373 tn?1274921434 It is like you are talking about my son at age 5! I considered holding my son back a year because he didn't have any of the skills needed for school. He was ambidextrous. He had no interest in drawing or colouring (a little painting). If I tried to get him to colour he would be in tears because he couldnt do it perfectly or if he went over the lines. He would not attempt to draw a picture and he seemed not to know where to start on the page.
Avatar f tn How long does it take for a patient to recover his memory after a stroke? When will the memory stop improving? My boyfriend of 3 years suffered a stroke last November after surviving cancer (he'll turn 30 in a month) The doctors said the damage in my bf's brain is permanent, the stroke was not severe enough to handicap him but it has affected his memory and mental capacity. They are unsure if he'll ever recover his memory fully.
414018 tn?1268611672 All i know is the current ca125 uses one protein to test for cancer, the new test being released uses 5 proteins in our blood and is now going to be used as a screening test for OVCA with a 99% success rate and can detect stage 1 development. Just wish they would make it free as I can't see it being that effective unless they make it widely available to women. My goal is to see it being recommended with young adults and women's 2 yearly pap smears.
1176211 tn?1264038680 It started with short time memory, difficulty repeating and remembering numbers, immediate memory loss, hitting the wrong letters on the keyboard, while thinking out something, there is a nano second when I know the memory is going to dissolve. Some fluctuated in degree of intensity oh and now a calcified mass in my right lower flank that is being repeated to see if there is a change in size.

Avatar n tn Lately I have been having many problems with reading and my memory. When I am reading something I now have the tendency to mix letters up or completely misread the word. For example Truely may become the word try or new may become now or visa versa. I'll have to go back and read it again because I will think to myself wait that makes absoloutely no sense.
Avatar m tn When I study and try to remember a word, my brain comes up with an unrelated word to the one I want to remember with similar letters. This also happens when talking. I have started to mix letters, and occasionally forget articles or use plural/singular incorrectly. The other day I heard the word "joke" and could not remember what I meant, it had no meaning to me. When reading I have noticed that I read one word instead of the one that is written (this doesn't happen that often).

Avatar f tn Hi guys, i have myopia since last 10 years but my near vision is perfect but from few days i am seeing Shadow of letters while using mobile ,the shadow is like a transparent copy of letters,i went to a doctor he also couldn't identify my problem, I'm so much worried
739070 tn?1338603402 He did a few simple cognition tests and told me I had memory retrieval problems. He suggested I take a cognition test given by a psychologist. The results were right on target. While taking the tests, I could tell by my thinking process where my weakness lay. The good part about this test is that you are also told what your strong points are. I no longer attempt to multi-task. But I can intensely focus on a task or project.
Avatar n tn My son, who is a sweetheart, also is obsessed with letters, numbers and television and any kind of logos. His memory is scary!!!!!! Yes I am noticing obsessive compulsive behavior. Last night we changed the bedtime routine because I had the worst cold. He started crying so hard. I felt so bad. It was a real sad hurt cry, not a mad cry. I really am afraid to give mental health medicine to a 3 year old, but if it will reduce his inner pain...
Avatar n tn Lately my hair is falling out a lot and have delveloped bold patches to the sides of my head. I am also feeling tired and my vision flactuates i.e see lines extending from letters that the optometrist attributes to some dryness (I've seen an ophthalmologist). Aso, I have noticed that the lymph nodes under my jaw are inflamated and if I touch around where the thyroid is on the left side (the side that the lymph in inflamated) it hurts!
