751951 tn?1406632863 I just got the results bakc form my neuro-pysch testing today. They told mne the testing involves the initial visit with the psychologist to determine what areas need to be tested. My main concerns were memory and losing the inability to multi-task efficiently. My testing only took 2 1/2 hours. It was extremely frustrating to me. I thought I was a complete idiot when I walked out of the place. The test memory and recall several different ways, i.e.
Avatar n tn I would have a professional test his IQ. My son is getting ready to take the John Hopkins test. There was a parent on those boards who originally tested at an IQ of 75. He took the John Hopkins test (he has autism) with an aide tat kept him focused and aced. The John Hopkins test is only given to kids in the 95% percentile and half of those don't get in. Don't trust the schools to do their own testing - sometimes it is better to go to a trained professional.
Avatar m tn With his classmates just beginning to read, we can tell it troubles him as he asks us “what happens if I don’t learn to read?”. The school completed a IQ test which was conducted by an educational psychologist and his score was a 76. The psychologist also told us that she does not think he has a learning disability and that the slow development is a result of the low IQ. This was very upsetting as both my wife and I did well in school and of course want our son to his best.
645800 tn?1466860955 When I was about 25 I took an IQ test with a score of 138 which ws high enough to joined Mensa which is an organization of very smart people. The only area I had trouble with in school was those English courses. And then is was only because of the "book reports" you had to do. It wasn't that I had trouble with English but at that time I could not express my feelings. So my book reports always consisted of just one line." I liked the book".
3986919 tn?1352125983 Though what it actually means, is that i have lost a significant amount, at least 2-3 standard deviations or in other words 30-45 IQ points and if I had started off with an average IQ, I would be in big big trouble. lol For a neuro-psych you'd think he'd be smart enough to actually get that point, but alas no. The psych who fully tested my mental health, is my son's psych (specialising in gifted) and she was incensed!
Avatar n tn If the boy is raised in a superior stimulating environment, and has access to great education and parents who strive for excellence, the child should show a higher IQ on a test than a child of the same actual intelligence who has not had such a rich environment. So a child in a high achieving home should test at 115 or so, and a child in a home where he hasn't been exposed to stimulating education might test at 95, but both have the same intelligence.
Avatar n tn My 5 year old son had an assessment performed recently by a psychologist for ADD and Asperger's Syndrome. As part of the assessment, a Weschler IQ test was performed. My son was just barely 5 when the test was performed. He scored a FSIQ of 84 which was a shock because he seems so very bright. At 3, he could work a 48 piece puzzle by himself. He has an incredible memory and can read at a 2nd grade level (per the Woodcock Johnson).
Avatar m tn believe me, what you do here proves you do need any IQ test to prove your intelligence. No my dear. My sons, they are by means dumb. In fact one of them rates higher on the IQ scale that most adults but you wouldn't know it by speaking with him. That is the way he has been raised. You see they have both been raised to see the true meaning of 'IQ'... I call it the [first off-absolutely no offense intended to anyone] 'Idiopathic Quinine Scale'. Why?
2015036 tn?1332997788 He stated that I had lost 70 points of my IQ based on the work that I did and what he came up with for my current IQ at the time. But I know my IQ was a lot higher than what the was the average for people doing my work was so I figure I lost even more than that. This was back in 1989. Luckily I never got annoyed with others take a long time to learn things while I was in school. I got around that aspect by always having college level text books with me.
Avatar m tn Kevin, I am India, today i met a special educater counseler, after seing and initial screening they are suspecting IQ test is wrong, that test has been coducted in a hour and not true. If can i share the test results and eeg can u guide me.
Avatar m tn Most of the components of her IQ are actually above average with the memory component in the mid 80 (low / borderline) resulting on an IQ score of average (101). The psychologist that performed her evaluation recommended Cogmed as a program that my improve her memory and therefore help her IQ. As you know Cogmed is expensive. I was told that the MIND institude was actually doing a scientific study on how effective this program is.
Avatar m tn Am I expected to see an increase in the IQ score for short term memory after the program (our child has average IQ overall with mid 80s for memory but above average for other IQ components)? Are all providers of the program equally proficient or do I have to also research their credentials?
Avatar f tn I guess my fiance says I have memory loss since I was pregnant. Our daughter is a month now and I guess he says I see and hear things differently then how they happen or do things I don't know I did. He said it has been since I was pregnant not before. Has this happened to anyone?
Avatar n tn org/ I would bet that depression and anxiety also could play a big role in memory. And if both of those feed into insomnia, that too affects memory. Trust me- I KNOW! At the height of my depression and anxiety and insomnia (mostly due to work), I truly felt like a walking zombie with a memory span of 50 microseconds if I was lucky. On the same day as my last day at work, the insomnia completely disappeared! (That says something about where I worked and with whom...
Avatar f tn There are tests like MRI, memory assessment tests and IQ tests which can be done. With proper rehabilitation there will be marked improvement. Take care!
Avatar f tn I nearly had a cow when the neuro-psych told me my test results, i'd averaged out to fit into the normal IQ range. The big deal, was that I'm identified highly gifted, born into a family of highly/profoundly gifted people. Dropping 30-45 IQ points should of set off alarm bells but unfortunately they dont seem to recognise 'normal' IQ as an indication that there is a problem, well it is for ME! lol.
338416 tn?1420045702 The IQ test will tell me if my brain has gotten any dumber since the last time I took a test, but the important tests are really the cognitive stuff, not the IQ.
Avatar m tn I'm 15 years old, and I have been getting bouts of memory loss. Recently, I cannot remember things that I should be able to remember - only to think of them after like 10 seconds or more when I should be able to remember them instantaneously. Before, I don't remember having memory problems like this. Only, in the past couple of months do they start happening.
Avatar n tn rote counting beyond 30, knowing the seasons but attribute it to having a good rote memory. In the summary of the IQ testing it notes that he is unable to think beyond the concrete level at best! The school psychologist noted that his pre-reading and pre-math skills are substantially below grade level. Prior to the testing, I knew we would have a big problem. He can be very disagreeable and frustrates.
Avatar f tn > What I was mentioning is not amonic aphasia. It is more that cognitive memory is intact, you can remember the word, but you loose the ability to manage vocal cords, lips, breath control and tongue position to verbally say the word. It is a very specific defect linked to a very specific area. Anomic aphasia is a general term. You have to identify the subtype to figure out the area.
593064 tn?1219069642 My overall IQ is average (around 105), however my verbal IQ is 135 (very superior) and performance IQ 73 (borderline) for an overall average IQ. This translates into difficulties with reading comprehension, sustaining interest on task, combination and structuring as well as very poor short-term memory/learning of new information. In general, it takes me much longer than average and requires much more effort to learn and understand new material.
Avatar f tn Given the list of issues (attention, language, ASD and low motivation) my son has, has the school administered the right IQ test ? 2. Can IQ drop so significantly? 3. Are there alternate IQ tests for kids with ASD and ADHD? Also, Should I just take the IQ test results with a grain of salt and continue working with him as usual? My only worry is that his already low bar at school will be lowered even more.
Avatar n tn And I would add that there are a lot of things that can screw up an IQ test such as thyroid problems, ADHD, ADD, etc and give a completely false reading. The age of the child is also important. So it would be helpful to have a bit more information.
1257808 tn?1322762215 How can I improve my concentration and memory? It became worse with meds. Meds not work well until now. Improvement too slowly. I'm having trouble in studying and learning.
Avatar m tn Oops let me clear up the IQ OF 20 % for his age. The number is still low IQ of 77.
Avatar m tn I got a second opinion. Paid for a test myself. They said he did have a low IQ. But caused by ADHD. Now he does go to special education at school. He also goes to regular classroom. He takes medication and shown improvement. Recently re-tested at above 100. So If someone told you your child had cancer you would get a second opinion? Why would you not do so with your sons academic future.
