Common Questions and Answers about Memory problems school

memory

Avatar f tn ) During my middle school years, I became really depressed and stopped going to school, and I rarely even went to high school, I ended up up being kicked out with in 30 days of my last year. Maybe this is the cause? I also am getting headaches constantly. I don't know if this has anything to do with my ADD, or I am being paranoid, (I get paranoid a lot), or it could be something else.
1399170 tn?1333845258 s stress from school, your schedule, and personal life b/c the middle school/high school part of your life is very busy and stressful. ADD might also have a part in your memory problems. You had mentioned that you forget things like homework if you get distracted. My suggestion would be to have your self tested for ADD, buy a planner to write everything down in, and try eating fish. Fish is supposed to be really good for your memory.
Avatar f tn Not that I would wish any one on this post, especially you Dave, to have memory problems, but at least I feel more assured that it is normal. Thanks for responding.
414131 tn?1202530891 I am experiencing various problems mostly with memory. I am 49 and was diagnosed a year ago with diabetes. My A1C was 6.5. I was very tired. I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat. All I had to do is sit down and start to relax. My brain was not working so well either. My memory was becoming almost a thing of the past. I was having what I call random access bad sectors. It would strike randomly and I never knew if I would recover what I just forgot.
Avatar m tn my son on high dose of lithium he is having memory lost problems and problem focusing !!!! is ant body had similar problems with lithium also ??????
Avatar f tn But he can not remember his scool work after a few minutes or remember to bring his things in from school or play. He will not think for himself at all. He hears voices that tell him to lie about his homework or the things he done in school. He is in 8th grade but it has been a struggle. His grades are D's and F's in most classes. A's in band. He hates sports, being outside, and anything that he has to think with. He does not like to play at anything that may "hurt" him.
Avatar f tn My 16 year old daughter was diagnosed last year with Chiari. I have noticed that she has been very forgetful lately. I will ask her to do something around the house and she forgets to do it. I also notice it with school & sports and things that she forgets. I realize that she is a teenager and forgetfulness comes with the territory, but when she is confronted about forgetting something you can tell that she had no recollection of ever being asked to do it.
1842804 tn?1319756311 You and I sound very similar in the way the MS is progressing. I am still mobile, but do have many physical symptoms--mostly pain and spasticity. However, the biggest complaint is the mental/cognitive issues and fatigue. I am on a generic form of Provigil. My insurance won't cover Provigil so I get the medicine through a Canadian pharmacy (medicine made in India). This medicine is wonderful and works as well as the Provigil did.
Avatar n tn If her skills are truly on level of a child in pre-K, then this sounds like more than just a memory problem. Discrete memory problems are fairly rare unless there is a neurological issue.
Avatar m tn What type of learnig disabilities will cause problems with short term memory - working memory and organization?
Avatar m tn It sounds like you may be having some work problems. That can cause stress and the memory problems too.
Avatar f tn I have the exact problem. I have ADHD. I dont remember a lot before the age of 13, from then I had to mostly relearn everything I had learned in my younger years. Now I find it hard to remember anything I read, listen to, or try and study. I feel lost and confused since I am only 19 with this type of problem.
Avatar n tn One is if you have hypothyroid or Hashimoto's disease, which both mean your thyroid gland is not producing enough hormone, and thus you can get that collection of problems. So, visiting an endocrinologist and getting your thyroid tested is how to find out if it's your thyroid doing all this to you. Two is if you are taking some sort of medication that is giving you these as side effects, so you would review any drug you're on and see if you need to have it changed.
676143 tn?1312941771 So does anyone else have problems with memory lately? I feel like the baby is sucking my brain away. I keep forgetting so many little things. Luckily, it hasn't gotten me in to too much trouble yet - but one of these days I am going to forget something really important!
1260255 tn?1288654564 I've read people mentioning memory problems, but have not seen one type of memory problem discussed. Do any of you have problems where your memory does not store information? There are numerous occasions when I have absolutely no recall of conversations. This happened several weeks ago when my son called me at work. He told me that the grill was corroded at the bottom. I have no recall of this whatsoever, but his girlfriend was sitting next to him and vouches for him.
Avatar f tn I have FM for over 12 years now, I've read numerous books, I belong to the National Fibromyalgia Network, The Fibromyalgia Association, and follow the latest research on many aspects of FM. These include, medical and pharmaceutical research. There is NO evidence that people with FM have brains that age faster. There is a neurological aspect to FM that can affect our brains. Our neurotransmitters may not be firing right to put it simply.
Avatar m tn And I feel like I have forgotten everything I spent the past 3-4 years paying to learn ! I was an honours student in undergrad and never had memory problems before. I am also having huge problems concentrating on what people are saying to me. It's like I am not listening no matter how hard I try to listen my brain wanders off into zombie land. And I am only 29. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to regain one's memory and concentration ?
Avatar f tn He has always been on honor roll and his main issue at school os focusing. He also has sleeping disorder and bad asthma and allergies. He has had time where he would be on 13meds at once for over a year. Now we are down to 7 meds. He has really bad short term memory. I mean he could of just stopped something and forget he did it 30 seconds later.
Avatar n tn My daughter was born a preemie and had pneumonia at birth She spent 2 weeks on a vent, but has not had any major problems since. We have noticed some unusual memory loss for several years. In school she does ok in math and spelling (subjects that are very repetitive). It takes her a while to learn a word or math fact, but once she gets it she has no problems. Her major problem is in the other subjects where she has to read something, remember it and be tested on it.
Avatar n tn Some patients may have problems in mixing up words for objects or can have trouble understanding or taking part in a conversation. Prevention in what concerns memory loss is whatsoever limited. Sudden memory loss cannot be prevented but patients who experience the symptoms of memory loss due to aging may keep their brain cells healthy and active with different exercises and dietary supplements.
Avatar n tn My 11 year old is a loner, very quiet and has a remarkable memory (but selective memory). Loves history and science, excellent in math (though grades do not show this). My 12 year old is very verbal and wants to be where everyone else is. Wants to get into sports, but hasn't made any of the teams yet. Plays bass for the school stringed band. They don't have any behavior problems really.
Avatar f tn I'm not a physician, but I can offer a few ideas. Since you have a pulmonary disease and high blood pressure and high cholesterol, it's possible your brain is not getting enough oxygen, so you're getting drifty. Could be you need to have a little oxygen mask to sleep with and that might help. An internal medicine doc should review your whole health picture and decide what to do.
Avatar n tn s woken up this morning and told me she could only sleep for an hour last night, and suddenly has no memory of what high school she went to or who her friends were back then; she also says she can't remember what time she's to leave work today. Could this temporary memory loss just simply be the result of stress and lack of sleep, or are we looking at something else?
Avatar m tn i have the same problems. i cant concentrate and learn anything at school. im a college student but im struggling too much and i keep dropping out or failing my classes..i havent finish a program yet. im such a failure. am i sick? dumb? or stupid? its a preasure to me too, im the second oldest in my family. I HAVE TO BE THE BREADWINNER, but i just cant do it.. none of my family went to college, not my parents nor any of my siblings.. i feel that WE'RE ALL DUMB!
Avatar n tn t recall If I had any memory problems before this happened but I always did well in school until recently my memory seems to have gotten a lot worse. I haven't had a diabetic seizure in about 2-3 years, but lately I will talk to friends and repeated tell them the same thing each time I see them because I don't remember ever telling them. I always recheck everything I do because I never remember doing it, like locking a door or turning lights off.
