Common Questions and Answers about Memory problems nouns

memory

Avatar f tn The most common problems are memory, especially word recall and things like name recall, problems with executive function like rapid-decision making, multitasking, and slowness of analytical thinking. We don't actually lose IQ points, but we process MUCH slower. This kind of problem is associated with the gray matter lesions that we all have. Your neuro should be referring you for neuropsych testing to see exactly where your cognitive strengths and deficits are.
1307298 tn?1305946851 I'm in training to be a Speech-Language Pathologist. We learn that MS can cause aphasia. If you are concerned, you should ask your doc or MS Specialist to refer you to a Speech-Language Pathologist, who can test you to see if you really do have problems, and can also treat you if you do. (yes, there is therapy- and it can be very effective) I just got diagnosed with MS last month. I'm pretty sure I've been having some short-term memory and word finding problems for a while.
5509293 tn?1428531475 I am noticing definite cognitive issues. I mix up words, I have problems completing things, recently rereading sent emails I have noticed spelling errors which I never make. I told my kid to stop sitting around on the pavement when I meant stop sitting around on the carpet. I have been investigated for ms but not dx'd. I don't know what to do with this, but it worries me.
Avatar n tn s not encoding the names of the letters. He can clearly recognize them. Does he have any other trouble with nouns - coming up with names of animals, names of people, etc? If you pointed to a variety of animals and asked "what is this?" can he do it? I ask because nouns are stored in a separate place in the brain from other words, and nouns are particularly troublesome to remember.
Avatar m tn It sounds like you may be having some work problems. That can cause stress and the memory problems too.
Avatar f tn I have the exact problem. I have ADHD. I dont remember a lot before the age of 13, from then I had to mostly relearn everything I had learned in my younger years. Now I find it hard to remember anything I read, listen to, or try and study. I feel lost and confused since I am only 19 with this type of problem.
Avatar n tn One is if you have hypothyroid or Hashimoto's disease, which both mean your thyroid gland is not producing enough hormone, and thus you can get that collection of problems. So, visiting an endocrinologist and getting your thyroid tested is how to find out if it's your thyroid doing all this to you. Two is if you are taking some sort of medication that is giving you these as side effects, so you would review any drug you're on and see if you need to have it changed.
676143 tn?1312941771 So does anyone else have problems with memory lately? I feel like the baby is sucking my brain away. I keep forgetting so many little things. Luckily, it hasn't gotten me in to too much trouble yet - but one of these days I am going to forget something really important!
1260255 tn?1288654564 I've read people mentioning memory problems, but have not seen one type of memory problem discussed. Do any of you have problems where your memory does not store information? There are numerous occasions when I have absolutely no recall of conversations. This happened several weeks ago when my son called me at work. He told me that the grill was corroded at the bottom. I have no recall of this whatsoever, but his girlfriend was sitting next to him and vouches for him.
Avatar f tn I have FM for over 12 years now, I've read numerous books, I belong to the National Fibromyalgia Network, The Fibromyalgia Association, and follow the latest research on many aspects of FM. These include, medical and pharmaceutical research. There is NO evidence that people with FM have brains that age faster. There is a neurological aspect to FM that can affect our brains. Our neurotransmitters may not be firing right to put it simply.
Avatar f tn Not that I would wish any one on this post, especially you Dave, to have memory problems, but at least I feel more assured that it is normal. Thanks for responding.
Avatar m tn And I feel like I have forgotten everything I spent the past 3-4 years paying to learn ! I was an honours student in undergrad and never had memory problems before. I am also having huge problems concentrating on what people are saying to me. It's like I am not listening no matter how hard I try to listen my brain wanders off into zombie land. And I am only 29. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to regain one's memory and concentration ?

Avatar f tn Hi All, I'm in the searching stage right now. Gave an MRI end of month. Anyone find, that besides having cog problems, they are stuttering, and maybe have the word there but can't say what you are trying to say? Anyone find that when they are typing on the computer, they type words backwards, or wrong even though you know how to spell it and know where the keys are but your brain just isn't picking it up correctly? I'm not dislexic.
11079760 tn?1483386130 I know we've addressed this in a recent thread, but I just have to share that I just forgot my house address. I've lived here for almost 10 years, and I suddenly couldn't remember my house numbers. I went back & forth between 2 digits - one is right and one is not. Can this just be because I'm highly distracted with other issues (read: STRESSED) right now? I hate that these things are happening more & more frequently.
897447 tn?1242235987 last night, my right eye only for vision got really weird.....still trying to figure it out..........my eyeball has been sore and achy for the last 4 days ...also have tingle/shocks on right side of my face, a light numbness in my right arm/hand...also feels heavy......heaviness in my right leg too....been tripping over my right foot a lot lately.....one trip hurt my bad knee it has Osteoarthritis....and my left side rib cage feels like I'm getting a bear hug (wish it would stop),....
335728 tn?1331414412 Oh Jen just reminded me of a made up game i play. When i lost 'all' nouns so strange only being able to describe lol I couldn't name anything out loud but i discovered i could name things in my head pretty well, no stutter/slurr either. I would drive along "thinking" traffic light, red, bumper bar, tree, sign etc etc Eventually i was getting it right over and over, so i started speaking instead of just thinking the word.
956292 tn?1334054869 I asked, practically begged for mine. It was a good idea - it shows mild cognitive impairment and problems with retaining and processing information.
739070 tn?1338603402 I have recently (past 2 weeks or so ) started two new meds, gabapentin-which I have taken before and had no side effects and Cymbalta. Has anyone else had an episode of complete lack of memory when using an everyday item. This is actually the second time, now that I think of it. I went to the silverware drawer for a knife and stood looking not knowing which was the knife. Is this an MS phenomena? It sounds like Alzheimer's to me. Any one?
2015036 tn?1332997788 I did a little more research, and there is a medscape article that showed that atophy in the hippocampus causes memory problems. It further showed that people are very aware when their cognitive status changes, and that it usually means a decrease in the volume of their hippocampus- even when other forms of testing fail to show that there has actually been a decline is cognitve abilities. All I really knew, prior to this- was that I used to be sharp- high IQ, etc.
987762 tn?1671273328 I know this stuff, lol its a noun and they are somewhat missing at the moment, gets a bit tricky. Why just nouns for god sake, why not verbs, adjectives etc too? Talk about selective memory lol taking it a little too specific in my books! I think i'll name it "NRA" short for the latin translation- Noun Runuth Awayuth! Thanks Jen as soon as I read Myoclonic jerks the peices came back together, where is my electrician when my wiring goes haywire?
414131 tn?1202530891 I am experiencing various problems mostly with memory. I am 49 and was diagnosed a year ago with diabetes. My A1C was 6.5. I was very tired. I could fall asleep at the drop of a hat. All I had to do is sit down and start to relax. My brain was not working so well either. My memory was becoming almost a thing of the past. I was having what I call random access bad sectors. It would strike randomly and I never knew if I would recover what I just forgot.
804276 tn?1480858056 i have had really bad memory problems for most of my life and was wondering if my conditions could cause this. i have points in my life, many, that i just don't remember at all and they aren't bad situations. everything from what i ate yesterday to a family member coming to visit from out of town, years ago, but i don't remember it ever happening. i'm so afraid of alzheimers when i get older but i don't think my memory problems fits alzheimers.
