Avatar n tn Hello, You are right in saying that statins may cause memory loss. Statin drugs cause terrible side effects for some users, including mental confusion, memory loss and a general loss of mental focus. The cardiovascular benefits of statins are well established, but the effects of these agents on the human brain are not as well established. The more lipid-soluble the statin, the greater propensity it has to cross the blood-brain barrier and affect the central nervous system.

I told him what all else I was feeling in my head and he just blew it off.

Avatar n tn I do know from experience with these type of drugs like Xanax, Valium, and other drugs like them seem to cause a short term memory loss. But that was with me it could be different with you but the reason I ask that question is because I had the same problems with certain medications. Research what medications you take because that might be the reason why you are losing train of thought and memory loss. I don't know if I helped I just know what I experienced on certain medications.
Avatar m tn Check with your doctor. Ask him to recommend a diet that is lower in carbohydrates to help you lose weight and lower your insulin levels. Your diet should mostly consist of protein, healthy fats, vegetables, and occasional fruit. Avoid sugary drinks. Instead of drinking juice, eat the fruit. Drink mostly water. If you need help with meals and snacks, just leave me a message. It's not easy changing what you eat.
Avatar f tn Omega 3 fish oils are excellent for the brain, they help with concentration, memory and mood. So if you enjoy oily fish try to eat it 3 times a week. If not you can buy supplements but they can be expensive. B6 and B12 vitamins are beneficial to women, they also help us deal with stress and keep our hormones balanced which again helps moods. I hope this helps a bit!
1313177 tn?1273792988 I have to agree with Super_Sally. I took Synthroid for over 30 years with no memory loss. I expect that any memory issues are due to inadequate levels of thyroid hormone, not the Synthroid itself. When taking T4 meds like Synthroid it is very easy to end up with low Free T3 due to inadequate conversion of T4 to T3, and also patients often find that their doctors keep them on a dose that is too low because they medicate them based on TSH.
Avatar m tn Hello, I was diagnosed with syringomyelia and severe and mod stenosis. I've been doing rather well considering that they told me I would be in a wheel chair by now. Anyway I wondered if anyone else with this diagnosis has had problems with memory? My Nurse practitioner said it's normal then my wife looked it up and couldn't find anything on it. The memory loss that is. Nor could I. Any one know or have information on this topic?
Avatar n tn of 2009, he did not remember a whole day and he is having trouble remembering things we talk about, within days and even hours of our discussion. He even having trouble with suduko, which he loves to do. His PCP has checked him with tests and a brain x-ray, all looks normal for a 66 year old man. Could this still be a side effect of the surgery.
Avatar n tn t think anyone on here would like to take a stab in the dark about this. Yes those of us with BP do have ocassional memory loss, usually following mania or psychosis. We also talk about our memories not being as clear as they once were. With everything your daughter has gone through though it could be that her brain has just "shut-off" in an attempt to cope, mend etc. I am not a psychiatrist though as I'm sure you appreciate.
Avatar n tn After coratid artery surgery, experiencing memory loss which is not consistently short term or long term, is it possible for the brain to reconfigure areas damaged by particles that passed through the filter and regain the ability to remember? This discussion is related to short term memory loss.

Avatar f tn Vicki gave you some good advice about speaking with our Dr. The memory loss and confusion is very understandable taking ativan and going through wd. actually the ativan should be tapered. it is notorious for memory loss complete wipe out. usually through drinking with them but if you are dehydrated and coming off opiates it is very probable. Congratulations on getting clean and learning about your addiction and the meds that feed it. Take good care of yourself.
