Have you ladies had memory loss ever since you've gotten pregnant?
My mother had her thyroid and a benign tumour removed about 6 months ago. She lives 3 hours away from me, so I have seen her a few times but only for short intervals and we regularly speak on the phone. Since her operation I have noticed she is always tired (also due to her heart medication) and that she has become more of a glass half empty type of person. Recently my father had a heart attack (serious but my Dad is a trooper and is now recovering after surgery).
If all brain related causes (transient ischemic attack, disorders of hypothalamus, dementia and multiple sclerosis, head injury etc) are ruled out then Vit B12 deficiency, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders (by sleep studies), depression, use of certain drugs, and certain types of seizures (where memory loss is the predominant symptom) should be investigated for as the cause of memory loss.
Im afraid of what I will be like when Im old. Is my increase in memory loss a sign I need to get checked? As time goes by it gets worse. Maybe I should play those memory games to train my brain back to being good! lol for real though, I am healthy my worse complaint is memory. Am I supposed to continue to see a doctor? Am I going to have to have surgery again when Im older?
Anyway i was just wondering if anyone has experienced a significant loss of memory, focus and just general day to day thinking ability with their autoimmune disease. I've never had the best memory, but lately i can't even hold on to stuff for 20 minutes. This is probably connected to how I feel like I am becoming progressively more "ditzy" and unable to concentrate. the other day i tried to put ice cream away...i put it in the toaster oven.
My husband had an stroke 6 years ago in his thalamus which caused him to be confused, short term memory loss, some long term memory loss,etc. The good news is that he regained almost all of his functioning, but some small short term memory issues. 3 weeks ago he worked in the yard in 100 degree temps for several hours. The next day he woke up with the same symptoms as the stroke 6 years ago and we assumed he had another stroke.
Your observation is kinda bold,....I've been having problems like this myself and I have to tell you, "it's embarassing"...I can recall conversations from years ago or a year back but I cant tell anyone wehat I did yesterday or who I spoke to, where I went or what I did. I have to make notes to myself but then when I read them, I dont recall writing them and so I dont really react to them much.

re in an alcohol/substance related group - memory loss can be associated with drinking. It can be associated with many other things, too - from different medications, mental or cognitive health conditions, and even sometimes stress. I think it is very important that you speak to a doctor who can survey your health & lifestyle profile to work with what is known - and other factors that may not be known.

you might need to forget some of your most valuable memories to be able to regain your short term memory... Thats how computers work... when my computer starts running out of memory it gets a case of short term memory loss on a monthly basis!
