Common Questions and Answers about Memory loss vitamin deficiency

memory

Avatar f tn Im doing an I-Search paper for my Honors English 3 class, and I would like to know a little about memory loss. If you could tell me how it occurs, some treatment options, how it affects the person, and the medical reason that it happens, (such as what happens in the brain to make it forget, other than a bump on the head) would really help me. Thank you.
Avatar f tn The MRI scan shows no issues - they have run MRI, CatScan, EEG, EMG, Muscle Biospy, Spinal Tap, all sorts of blood work and after three weeks have found nothing except some vitamin deficiency. She still cannot walk and has confusion and short term memory - Has anyone heard of anything like this. Is it possible that is vitamin deficiency? Any Ideas appreciated.
Avatar m tn I've had severe serotonin deficiency myself notably from vitamin B12 deficiency from autoimmune pernicious anaemia (I take sublingual B12 spray which is amazing!) but from MANY other causes from hypothyroidism to insulin resistance to vitamin D deficiency. The problem is finding the cause or causes but at the end of the symptoms and causes of serotonin deficiency is general info to help boost serotonin.
Avatar m tn Hi there. You have short term memory loss and you are young. The causes for this loss of memory could be many like lack of sleep, hurried up routine, psychogenic memory loss after a stressful and life threatening event, vitamin B1 deficiency, certain drug abuse like PCP, LSD and cocaine. Some prescription drugs can also be the culprit like barbiturates, tricyclic anti depressants etc. brain infections like encephalitis and head trauma are other rare causes.
Avatar m tn Sounds like you are having issues with your memory. I personally had memory loss from vitamin B12 malabsorption, thyroid imbalance and calcium deficiency.
Avatar n tn Hi, If all the tests are normal , the most probable cause for your symptoms could be a Vitamin B complex deficiency . Vitamin deficiency leads to a number of neurological symptoms like confusion , short term memory loss , etc . Please add good multivitamin , multimineral , Omega 3 , Protein and iron supplements to your diet . Take adequate rest and see the difference after a few days . Avatar n tn Additional symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency are difficulty in maintaining balance, depression, confusion, dementia, poor memory, and soreness of the mouth or tongue [14]. Signs of vitamin B12 deficiency in infancy include failure to thrive, movement disorders, delayed development, and megaloblastic anemia [15]. " Source:http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/vitaminb12.
Avatar n tn These complaints may be attributed to aging or psychiatric illness unless a high index of suspicion is entertained and a test for vitamin B-12 deficiency is carried out. It is still not clear if mild or moderate B12 deficiency can cause dementia and whether supplementation of the diet with B12 can prevent or delay the onset of dementias like Alzheimer's disease. Patients who are demented usually show little to no cognitive improvement with B12 supplementation.
Avatar m tn you could have severe vitamin deficiency, anemia, you have had two children close together, and have lots of issues, including depression. I would get your dr to give you another full exam including all your blood work, vitamin deficiency (B12 should be at optimal level of about 600-800, you can check out the evidence of this yourself), get diabetes tested, thyroid, and more than just the TSH, get the free T3 and T4 even if you fall within the reference range...
Avatar f tn Hi! I am in the process of having more tests done, but it seems my docs don't even know which direction to LOOK. I am a 35yr old female, w/ history of migraine w/ aura & several episodes of "complicated migraine". 2-3 months ago, I had an episode that they can only assume was a complicated migraine (MRI & EEGs were normal). The severity of the episode improved over 24-48hrs...
Avatar f tn If you have the symptoms and signs and meet the criteria for diagnosis of fibromyalgia, then this is likely not caused by the vitamin B12 deficiency. However, treatment of your vitamin b12 deficiency with appropriate doses of vitamin B12 may improve symptoms such as fatigue. Regardless, vitamin B12 deficiency should always be treated, as it may be affecting several parts of the nervous system. Thank you for using the forum, I hope you find this information useful, good luck.
Avatar f tn I just recently had my Vitamin B12 tested and the result was 209 (low normal) and when I repeated it 3 weeks later is had dropped low still to 187, which they say is still normal(normal ref range 150-668) but I have been having nerve problems since April this year and the neurologist I saw said it wasn't MS after I had a normal MRI of the head and neck and normal nerve conduction studies.
Avatar m tn About 5 to six months ago I started to get a tingly feeling in my arm and leg, various muscle twitches, light-handedness, headaches, eye twitches. slight memory loss, trouble focusing. symptoms became less severe as time went on but continued i thought it was MS. I went to the doctor and she thought it was from a slight spine injury.

Avatar m tn ve suffered from a general feeling of tiredness for years - sleeping 7/8 hours and not feeling refreshed when I wake. I recently had an operation on my shoulder and after a week had some very odd symptoms, headaches, dizziness, followed by pins and needles in arms, leg, back and face, sore legs and arms, numbness and more recently a tremor in my hands and a numb tongue. These symptoms have been ongoing since August . I had my B12 count taken in August and it was 290.
Avatar f tn There is weight gain, depression, sensitivity to heat and cold, muscle weakness, cramps, fatigue, panic attacks, memory loss, infertility and hair loss in this condition. People suffering from hypothyroidism may have low levels of vitamin D due to poor absorption from the gut. Low levels of vitamin D have been linked to the development of autoimmune diseases. Vitamin D deficiency can also be correlated to the presence of anti-thyroid antibodies and abnormal thyroid function tests.
Avatar f tn Stomach acid is essential for vitamin B12 absorption but in my case I cannot absorb vitamin B12 (autoimmune pernicious anaemia) so I need sublingual B12 spray daily. I had severe memory loss from this deficiency.
Avatar m tn Biotin, which is a B vitamin might also help stop your hair loss. Ask to get tested for vitamin B-12 as deficiency can cause severe fatigue.
Avatar m tn If all brain related causes (transient ischemic attack, disorders of hypothalamus, dementia and multiple sclerosis, head injury etc) are ruled out then Vit B12 deficiency, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders (by sleep studies), depression, use of certain drugs, and certain types of seizures (where memory loss is the predominant symptom) should be investigated for as the cause of memory loss.
