memory

Avatar m tn re in an alcohol/substance related group - memory loss can be associated with drinking. It can be associated with many other things, too - from different medications, mental or cognitive health conditions, and even sometimes stress. I think it is very important that you speak to a doctor who can survey your health & lifestyle profile to work with what is known - and other factors that may not be known.
Avatar m tn I've had memory loss due to vitamin B12 malabsorption, hypothyroidism, and severe stress. Alzheimer's is also called Diabetes Type 3. A book you might want to read is called Brain Grain by David Perlmutter M.D.
202665 tn?1248806733 I experience some form of memory loss on antipsychotics but the medicine that really caused me to have that level of memory loss and confusion like you describe was Cogentin which can cause Alzheimer's-like side effects, although Cogentin isn't a psych med, it's a side effect pill. I don't know if psych meds can cause memory loss to that extent or not but I would bet it's possible although I would get other causes ruled out like you're doing.
Avatar m tn Hi, Thank you very much for your question; although it is quite difficult for me to give you a precise diagnosis here without being able to examine you, though I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern. You need a proper assessment and investigation here since there can be many causes for memory loss & concentration impairment.
Avatar n tn About an hour later he suffered a brief episode (1-2 min) of short term memory loss. He could not remember the weekend holiday or do sums. Other than feeling cold he did not exhibit any physical symptoms. He had another episode about three weeks later. A neurologist examined him and found nothing but set up an EEG. He has had no other episodes. Any suggestions as to what to ask during/after the EEG or what the potential cause might be? Thank you.
Avatar m tn t find any information about this type of memory loss, I am hoping someone might be able to give me a heads up. Also if someone has been told by a family member about their erratic emotions I would love to hear your advice on how to bring it up with my mother.
Avatar n tn Can stress cause you to have body aches and sometime memory loss also loss of appetite?

My thyroid is normal and I have no other major disease so far (apart from joint pain and sleeping disorder). Please help, your advice can help me to cope with this very difficult situation.
Avatar n tn After coratid artery surgery, experiencing memory loss which is not consistently short term or long term, is it possible for the brain to reconfigure areas damaged by particles that passed through the filter and regain the ability to remember? This discussion is related to short term memory loss.
Avatar f tn This does not have any long term complications. The person just needs support from family members and has to learn to live with the memory loss. Memory loss is also a common symptom of frontal lobe injury. Damage to the frontal lobe of the brain causes frontal encephalomalacia. Encephalomalacia is not an illness. It is basically a softening of the brain matter as a result of an ischemia or infarction, degenerative changes, infection, craniocerebral trauma, or other injury.
Avatar m tn But doing this resulted in side effect like shrinking of brain leading to memory loss. He is in critical condition now. Is there any solution for this. If yes, please give that advice fast.
Avatar n tn I am a healthy 34 yr old male and I have been experiencing migraines over the last 4 months. The last 2 times I also experienced Memory Loss and slurred speach. I am unable to remember peoples names or common work terms for 20-30 minutes. My family has a history of migraines and my brother has had strokes in his late 20's. I recently stopped drinking and lost over 30 lbs. The migraines started after this. Would this change anything in my body to bring them on?
Avatar n tn Some patients may have problems in mixing up words for objects or can have trouble understanding or taking part in a conversation. Prevention in what concerns memory loss is whatsoever limited. Sudden memory loss cannot be prevented but patients who experience the symptoms of memory loss due to aging may keep their brain cells healthy and active with different exercises and dietary supplements.
1339419 tn?1275966042 My short term memory is not 100% as it is, although it is not as bad as my long term memory, and when my blood pressure is really high ( 160/100+ ) I seem to have short term memory loss that increases with the increasing blood pressure numbers. Is this a direct side effect of high blood pressure, others with hypertension having suggested it effects their short term memory, or is it confined only to myself because of my memory problems?
Avatar m tn My 60 years old mother has shown some sign of memory loss occasionally. Her MRI report is pasted below. What do points 1 & 2 mean? 1. Few punctate T2 / FLAIR hyperintense lesions are seen in the frontal subcortical white matter without any restricted diffusion on DW images - ? clinical significance. 2. There is generalized prominence of ventricular system, cisternal & sulcal spaces. 3.The rest of the parenchyma is unremarkable. Bilateral basal ganglia and thalami are unremarkable.
Avatar n tn It also takes a while for the body to adjust to the medications; they have to change the medications to wean a person off of the ventilator, from what I understand. My Dad got confused and agitated in ICU after his heart surgery (triple bypass, aneurysm repair, and aortic valve replacement--all in one surgery.) He was trying to pull out his tubes and climb out of bed, take off his gown, etc. He knew who we/his daughters were, but did not know where he was or why he was in the hospital.
Avatar m tn Dr, char limit disallowed some details, but firstly I wanted to state I concur this would perhaps be better suited to the neurology section, but I have reviewed both your and his forums, and in all honestly you give much more complete answers in my opinion. The outbreaks I received were indeed herpetic, with the telltale tingle, and responded to 2000mg Valtrex, also leaving various scars on my lips.
Avatar m tn Sorry Hi, My question really is about memory loss. I am only 24 years and I feel like I am too young to be experiencing this kind of memory loss; I don't know what you want to call it but I just think maybe it's getting worse? I always had a little hard time remembering things but recently I think it has reached a level now where it is impacting me and my surrondings. Less than a week ago, I lost my iphone, (or so I thought) when going at the post office.
Avatar m tn What causes memory loss for depression, stress or something? By neuron cell breakdown?
Avatar m tn t know if I want to go through all the trouble. But I will talk to a doctor. I believe it might be stress... with a toddler, a 5 month old, first year of college, work, never being able to see my husband, and being only 19. But out of curiosity, what are the possible outcomes from a cat scan? I don't want to find out i have a tumor or something.... that scares me.
Avatar n tn I have never heard of any antidepressants being associated with memory loss, but everyone reacts differently to these meds so I suppose anything is possible. Are you sure this memory loss is not due to another medical condition you may not know about? If it makes you feel any better, I used to take Effexor XR at 300Mgs a day for 4 years and did not have any lasting memory problems. I can say that now that I am 40 I have noticed that I have a little trouble remembering many things.
Avatar n tn However, more importantly, since your memory loss may or may not be related to the Celexa, it could be that your memory loss is due to something else. Plz let your Doc know about your memory loss before thinking about quitting Celexa cold turkey. Example: your memory problems could be from your actual Depression not being taken care of. When I had my 1st Major Depression, I had a form of memory loss problem, and that was BEFORE I took any meds.
