Avatar n tn I am a 33 year old mother of three and my memory is getting worse. I used to attribute it to being so busy but it's become more short term as I get older. I'm forgetting words when I have conversations with people, names of streets that I've always known before. I'll walk in a room specifically for an item and once in the room, I forget why I was there.

Avatar n tn t think anyone on here would like to take a stab in the dark about this. Yes those of us with BP do have ocassional memory loss, usually following mania or psychosis. We also talk about our memories not being as clear as they once were. With everything your daughter has gone through though it could be that her brain has just "shut-off" in an attempt to cope, mend etc. I am not a psychiatrist though as I'm sure you appreciate.
Avatar m tn If all brain related causes (transient ischemic attack, disorders of hypothalamus, dementia and multiple sclerosis, head injury etc) are ruled out then Vit B12 deficiency, chronic fatigue syndrome, sleep disorders (by sleep studies), depression, use of certain drugs, and certain types of seizures (where memory loss is the predominant symptom) should be investigated for as the cause of memory loss.
Avatar f tn When those receptors shutdown, short term memory fails to become (transition into) long term memory. This happens because of the level of alcohol in Your blood. If You continue to drink this will happen again, sooner and more often, with time. Alcoholism IS progressive - and so is the damage. This I know is true. Alcoholics are the last to realize they have a problem with alcohol. Alcoholics are the last to realize they are alcoholics. This too, I know is true.
