Avatar m tn After she stopped taking the pain medication (oxicodine) she has memory loss. At first it was little things, but now she does not know what year it is, how old she is, or that she just had surgery. She does have some memory, like she knows who me and my sister are and what she does for work. Another symptom is that she says her body is soar, like she lifted a bunch of weights. We are looking for any type of input/advise. Her doctors have been doing every test and scan.
Avatar n tn I do know from experience with these type of drugs like Xanax, Valium, and other drugs like them seem to cause a short term memory loss. But that was with me it could be different with you but the reason I ask that question is because I had the same problems with certain medications. Research what medications you take because that might be the reason why you are losing train of thought and memory loss. I don't know if I helped I just know what I experienced on certain medications.
Avatar f tn Before this incident, I had a fantastic memory. Since then, my short-term memory is horrible. Some examples are the inability to remember the events of the previous day, forgetting appointments, forgetting what I was about to say, and the worst one was when speaking to my mother, I forgot what our conversation was about when I was in the middle of a sentence. I have also noticed and decrease in patience.
Avatar f tn Hi! I am in the process of having more tests done, but it seems my docs don't even know which direction to LOOK. I am a 35yr old female, w/ history of migraine w/ aura & several episodes of "complicated migraine". 2-3 months ago, I had an episode that they can only assume was a complicated migraine (MRI & EEGs were normal). The severity of the episode improved over 24-48hrs...
Avatar n tn In 2007 he had a hip replacement done and ended up having 3 operations within one week because of complications. My question is could the buildup of medications etc cause him to now have memory loss, language skills loss and tremors in his right hand. He walked in to the hospital on crutches and now is dependent on a wheelchair.
Avatar f tn Hi, The white matter hyper intensities on MRI indicate stroke in the past history. Memory loss is one of the features of stroke. It is important that you keep you risk factors for stroke under control if you have any. The risk factors include high BP, diabetes, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, obesity, chronic alcoholism and smoking and stress. It is important to know what symptoms do you currently have in order to advise you whether or not you should see a neurologist.
Avatar f tn Since taking this medication she seems to have memory loss under stressful situations, mainly exams and her grades have dropped by 30 percent. She was always a good student and studies a lot. Nothing else explains the change and her understanding during lesson time is great according to her teachers. Is there an alternative to tegratol which does not have these side effects, or do all anti epileptic drugs cause these problems?
Avatar f tn After about a week he has all but his full memory back with the exception of about a week leading up to the memory loss. He has never got back the week before each episode. What could be causing this? Is there anything we can do to prevent it from happening?
Avatar m tn Since Xmas until around one week ago he has had fairly rapid memory loss. Over the course of the previous week the rate of decline has rapidly increased, e.g. he does not know he is in hospital, where he lives, cannot really hold a conversation as he tends to respond with a random statement, and immediately forgets what he or you have just said. He is also starting to have hallucinations, e.g. dogs in the hospital, and seems to be increasingly paranoid, although he is generally happy.
Avatar n tn You need a proper assessment and investigation here since there can be many causes for memory loss, headache and dizziness. Most common causes of short term memory and concentration impairment are excessive stress, psychological reason, recent head injury, certain medications, hormonal imbalance and Alzheimer’s disease (if you are in old age). I would recommend you to see a neurologist who can evaluate the details of your case and could better determine the insight of your situation.
Avatar m tn My 60 years old mother has shown some sign of memory loss occasionally. Her MRI report is pasted below. What do points 1 & 2 mean? 1. Few punctate T2 / FLAIR hyperintense lesions are seen in the frontal subcortical white matter without any restricted diffusion on DW images - ? clinical significance. 2. There is generalized prominence of ventricular system, cisternal & sulcal spaces. 3.The rest of the parenchyma is unremarkable. Bilateral basal ganglia and thalami are unremarkable.
Avatar f tn Hello Everyone, Has anyone else had their parts of their memory permanently wiped out from complicated migraines? I lost my intellect (math, science, technical, etc.) in April or May of this year. I'm not sure what event caused it. But it's completely wiped out, gone, and nothing has returned. I'm an electrical/software engineer who owns her own consulting firm; obviously losing my intellect is a huge problem in my profession.

Avatar f tn t want to do any follow-up with an abnormal MRI, that seems VERY unusual. They should always do at least one follow-up. Memory loss is a serious thing. Have you had neuropsychological testing? Good luck and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn ve also noticed a strange amount of short-term memory loss. I used to pride myself on my ability to remember entire conversations almost word-for-word, but now, I've had friends telling me about chats that I don't even remember having at all. There are entire chunks of days that I honestly cannot recall - completely lost time. Due to the urging of family and friends, I did see a doctor about all this, but my MRI came back with nothing obvious, so I decided not to pursue it further ...
Avatar f tn Her legs and arms both have some numbness, burning sensations, and pain. The MRI scan shows no issues - they have run MRI, CatScan, EEG, EMG, Muscle Biospy, Spinal Tap, all sorts of blood work and after three weeks have found nothing except some vitamin deficiency. She still cannot walk and has confusion and short term memory - Has anyone heard of anything like this. Is it possible that is vitamin deficiency? Any Ideas appreciated.
Avatar m tn Thus any damage to this lobe can lead to long term memory loss, mood swings, talking too much, and energy bursts leading to over activity. Long term complication is chance of schizophrenia. Encephalomalacia is not an illness. It is basically a softening of the brain matter as a result of an ischemia or infarction, degenerative changes, infection, craniocerebral trauma, or other injury. Usually this is not reversible. Treatment is just supportive.
Avatar f tn Thank you very much for your question; although it is quite difficult for me to give you a precise diagnosis here without being able to examine him, though I would try to provide you some relevant information about his health concern. He needs a proper assessment and investigation here since there can be many causes for memory loss & concentration impairment.
Avatar m tn None of the above disorders and never smoked in life. Symptoms include memory loss, confusion, getting stuck mid-sentence and forgetfulness. Does MRI correlate with symptoms and is MRI results age appropriate???? Thanks for your time.
Avatar n tn Can Remeron cause memory loss? Can it cause disorientation? Can it cause brain damage? What could be the cause if you have continued memory loss and disorientation 4 months after discontinuing use? Will there be any improvement?
Avatar n tn He has been experiencing short-term memory loss for the past 3 years. This spring, my mom took him to the doctor for a series of tests. They conducted an MRI to check for tumors or a possible stroke. They also conducted an initial screening for Alzheimers and dementia. Everything came back clear. The doctors agreed that there is some short-term memory loss but not enough to warrant medication.
Avatar n tn s, loss of coordination, blurry vision, twitches in both arms, numbness in both arms, loss of memory, slurred speech, and sexual performance problems. An MRI was done showing damage in the c4,c5,c6 in the neck region which causes my neck to hurt constantly. I was asking if this could be also a result from a brain injury I did hit my head pretty good in the accident.
