Avatar m tn Since the first experience was not that painful when I first saw the rash on my chest I was not 100% sure what it was at first, I did not think at the time shingles moved locations. Because of this I did not take any medicines for a long time (2 weeks after 1st noticed outbreak), unit the shingles started going up my neck. At this point I took acyclovir, forgot what dosage and how often but whatever was recommended from the net. Thanks for you help.

At times cold compress helps take care of pain. Maintain good person hygiene. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn As a person who had adult chicken pox, is he at any increased risk for shingles? Should he be more/less/ equally likely to get the the zoster vaccine? Thanks much!
Avatar n tn It in fact worked very well and the rashes were gone in a week after i started taking the medicines. I read that shingles is mostly common in those who are above 50 years old, with HIV, or it may also cause because of stress. It freaked me out cause I am just 28 years old, so i went for HIV testing and it was negative. I am now curious to know if it is common to have shingles at this age, what could have possibly caused shingles on me? Do I have weak immune system?
Avatar f tn Ok I just got diagnosed with Shingles at 19, the Doctor took one look at me and said 'Shingles' so now he's put me onto a range of medicines. Im very much aware of the fact that somebody my age should not get Shingles so Im absolutely devastated and now my mind has gone into crazy mode thinking I must have HIV. I had unprotected sex over a year a go so I could have been exposed to it. Im so scared and I dont know what to do!
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Shingles on Monday. Although i had only one small red spot, I experienced three days of extremely intense back and uterine pain prior to my doctor visit. On Tuesday, a rash, wrapping around my middrift ,appeared. The pain intensified to the point of no return. (I suffered nerve damage from a botched angiogram in July/09, so I know pain well.) My question is: Would the Valtrex (antiviral) be ineffective because it was administered after the intense pain had begun?

Avatar f tn The rash often looks similar to the original chickenpox rash, but it can be very painful; some patients need narcotic pain medicines to relieve the pain of shingles. People who have shingles are contagious (someone who has not had chickenpox can get chickenpox after exposure to a person with shingles), but they are less contagious than\ patients with full-blown chickenpox.
Avatar n tn My mother has had some kind of skin disesase for about 4 months now. It started with shingles, and now it is making her miserable. She has red sores all over her body, the worst places being her arms and her back. they are not on her face though. The sores are extremely itchy and we havent found any remedy. She has been to many doctors, but so far none of the expensive medicines or creams have helped. She is even taking shots to help. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn Hi there, I have two suggestions for you. You could talk to the pharmacist that you normally get your medicines from. Pharmacists are usually very knowledgeable about drug interactions. Another thing you can do is go to goggle - type in " multi-drug interaction checker" and search www.healthline.com/drug interactions. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn My husband who is 36 has had a headache for the past 2 weeks along with a swollen eye and scalp tenderness.. This is only on the left side of his face and head. He thought it was allergies and has taken a number of different medicines to help.. Nothing has changed. any idea ??
Avatar f tn Also, the lid, I was told, had a slight structural change due to the shingles virus and I have lashes that turn in and I keep them plucked out for the most part, but have to have my ophthalmologist do them for me fairly often too. My problem the last few weeks, off and on, is like something is in my eye. This weekend it's been so uncomfortable. The eyeball itself is tender---and has been since the shingles. I had cataract surgery in July and that went fine.
Avatar m tn Nearly fainted while I was at the gym which then turned into constant lightheadedness for now its 5th month. I had a shingles approximately a week after the episode. Our cases seem similar so I was hoping you had some input and suggestions to help. Did the B1 supplements help at all too? Cheers.
Avatar n tn Dear Doctor , Firstly I want to tell you my story shortly. And sorry about my english if it's bad. In 2004 November, I had a razor blade cut in 2-3 places in my head in my military service. And because of the person's unprotectable sex experiences with prostitutes (who had his razor cut 2-3 minutes before me) ı had a fear of hiv. There are 2-3 minutes between our razor cuts. After 64 days(9 weeks) from event I had my Anti-Hiv test called ELISA.And that was negative.
Avatar f tn Two of the patients who gained complete pain remission had been suffering with post-pain syndrome from shingles for 13 to 19 years respectively. This is amazing. If you have been putting up with post-pain from the herpes zoster virus, adopt the protocol immediately and suggest to your doctor that he/she become familiar with this landmark study.
Avatar m tn Based on my own personal experience I would avoid the Tikosyn and the Flecainide based on experiences that I have had, however everyone responds differently and its important that you and your doctor maintain dialog about what works and what does not work for you. I have been in Afib for 3 years straight now and I have also been on Warfarin for that same period of time.
Avatar n tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be contact dermatitis or shingles. Shingles occurs in people who have had chickenpox and represents a reactivation of the dormant varicella-zoster virus. The first sign is usually a tingling feeling, itchiness, or stabbing pain on the skin. After a few days, a rash appears as a band or patch of raised dots on the side of the trunk or face.
Avatar m tn He was puzzled and could offer no explanation for this phenomenon. Therefore, my question is do you have an explanation for this ? Thank you for your help.

Avatar f tn I still have symtons and get shingles about 5 times a year, after many appiontments and prescriptions for aviculor for shingles and complaining about my symptons, and blood tests for everything in the book later, the doctor said last week it sounds like cfs but wanted 2 check my thyroid levels yet AGAIN 1st and rushed me out the door. How can I be taken seriously what should I do next?
Avatar n tn Four days later the doctor found out that it was not folliculitis buy shingles. He gave me antiviral for shingles. After taking all these antibiotics and antiviral I started having diarrhea. I passed stool three times a day with some cramp. Also I got that itching on the groin area back. I am under a lot of stress beginning from august. I wanted to check with you to see if I could have contracted any infection including HIV and STD. Should I go for any tests and if so what kind of test?
Avatar n tn I have received the explanation of atypical shingles, but I am not satisfied. I have also been tested for lyme disease 4 times and all have come back negative. A CBC showed no abnormalities, but I remain concerned. I worry that this is along my nerve tract and if I do not address it I could end up with damage. I have not experienced pain, but occasional itching, and generally no real difference in feeling.
Avatar n tn Hence i wonder if this could be shingles. I havent felt any else shingles symptom except minor tingling the whole 4 weeks. What could it be? Stress related? I tested hiv negative at 32 and 52 days.
Avatar f tn There are always new anti-depressents coming out. There are several differnet classes of anti-depressents, and it could be that you've only been prescribed medications in certain classes and need to switch. For instance, for some people SSRI's don't work, so they have to go to the SNRI's. The problem with newer anti-depressents is they are often not covered by insuances and can be quite ppricy. Have you tried combos of meds before?
