Avatar f tn Heart failure management depends largely on the cause of heart failure. If congestive heart failure is due to systolic dysfunction due to either coronary artery disease, primary cardiomyopathy or valvular heart disease the treatment mostly consisting of medical therapy and in the case of coronary artery disease or valvular diseaes of intervention or surgery.
Avatar f tn Back in December I was diagnosed with pericarditis- I had echos, heart imagine, stress test, chest xrays, heart scan, and blood work- aside from the pericarditis everything was okay- some scar tissue did form after the inflammation had cleared up. In May I started having chest pains and shortness of breath and bad fatigue. I had another Echo done and the doctor said it looked okay but he wants to do a heart cathether. I'm a little worried it might be Congestive Heart Failure.
Avatar n tn •Your doctor may prescribe a blood thinner if you have had a heart valve replaced or if you have atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeats of the upper chamber), phlebitis (leg vessel blood clots) , congestive heart failure (failure of the heart to mmet the supply demand for oxygenated blood) , or, in some cases, if you are obese.
Avatar f tn My Dad had to get a pacemaker...he was also on medication for his blood pressure which can also lower the pulse. If the doctor would have taken him off the meds his b/p would go up and can cause a stroke. His HR was so low he went into congestive heart failure because the heart just wasn't pumping enough to keep up the demands of his body and he was filling up with fluid every where and was so short of breath as a result. I really thought we were going to lose him.
1623561 tn?1299940637 I was wondering what the outcome was for you. my 15 yr old yorkie-poo has congestive heart failure and suffered what the dr. believes was syncope Thursday. she is now refusing to eat or even drink chicken broth. she will only drink water and is having difficulty standing. I was wondering if you had any advice you could give on getting her to eat.
Avatar f tn I was recently diagnosed with Congestive Heart failure. I ran out of my diuretic, heart and fluid retention medicine. I went to my primary care doctor with my diagnosis, medicines I was taking and procedures that were done to receive diagnosis. My new primary care doctor who I have never seen wouldn't answer any of my questions, and started to proceed to schedule all the procedures that were done literally a month ago. This all costed me over 26000 dollars last month.
Avatar f tn They may have a diagnoses of Heart Failure; Congestive heart failure would be more of a flair=up of the disease. Why does this person think she has CHF?
1244565 tn?1268523645 I think the effects of congestive heart failure would be visible on a echocardiogram, but the term Congestive Heart Failure, at least in my case, is used as a name to cover several symptoms. Such as: profound swelling, shortness of breath, etc.
Avatar f tn The word Congestive Heart Failure is such a negative term, I wish there was an effort to give it name that wasn't so negative. As Ireneo mentioned, if the heart's ability to pump blood drops below a 40% level of efficiency, the term Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is used to describe the heart health. A heart attack can weaken the heart to a condition where CHF is a term used to describe it, but through exercise, drugs and diet one can improve the heart function dramatically.

Avatar n tn It was recently thought that I had developed Congestive Heart Failure. I had been sick for over a week (Diagnosed originally as Bronchitis and Sinusitis) and had shown no signs of improvement after the first round of anti-biotics and medications. I was still coughing up a lot of junk.
Avatar m tn hi im 53 with acute cronic congestive heart failure. my echocardiogram showed dilated cardiomyopathy with ejection fraction of 10% and biatrial enlargement and elevated creatine after cardiac catherization the aortic pressure was 110/77 with a mean of 93 left ventricular pressure was 110/26 descending irregularity these were not flow limiting the left circumflex coronary artery had minimal irregularities and relatively disease free and a nondominant vessel.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure almost a year ago. I have also had a heart attach and 50% of my lower heart is damaged. I have read the average survival rate after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure is 50% at 5 years and 20% at 8 to 12 years. Is this correct?
Avatar f tn When she finally went to the doctor she was told she had heart failure, kidney failure and liver failure. Heart failure and kidney failure can cause the water weight gain in the legs and ankles. The low blood pressure is another sign of distress. If you can, you should get her to the doctor. We have struggled with this since April. She was given weeks to 6 months back then, and she's still fighting, though we can see deterioration.
Avatar n tn I think the confusion stems from the change of name from congestive heart failure to heart failure. I guess the answer to your question is it depends on the device. Mine Does. I hope this helps and if I am in error someone please let me know.
Avatar f tn The sac on the outside of the lungs filled with air, put too much pressure on her heart, causing her heart to go into heart attack and she died, for a short time. While they worked on her to bring her back, she suffered a massive stroke that took all long term memory away from her. So for the last several years, even though she is alive, she isn't the person she was when she went into the hospital, and she never will be. I've been told that is why Doctors call it a practice.
Avatar f tn apparently has been treating her for some time for congestive heart failure but just only told her this last week she had the disease. She does have bronchitis right now and possibly pnemonia. What stage would she be in? The doctor will not return my phone calls nor my sisters to give us answers. Do we need to be concerned with time? I live very far away from my mother and haven't seen her for over two years.
Avatar m tn My name is Mike. I have been in the military for almost 20 years now. This past June I was in for surgery for ventral Hernia and while I was under that when everything started going down. My EF % was 10-15%. The doctor told me that I have CHF with a Left bundle blockage. They told me that a virus was most likely the cause. I never had any symptoms prior to June. I was in the hospital for surgery in January 2013 for Lower Bowel Obstruction issues and came out of it just fine. I am 41.
Avatar m tn My Mother has had congestive heart failure for 10 years. She is now 78 and has returned home from intensive care. Her condition has not improved and she is now being recommended to go on oxygen 22 hrs a day. Her edema is acute. My question is simple. how long can she possibly survive?
Avatar f tn The normal range is 63-77% for males and 55-75% for females. It reflects the pumping capacity of the heart. Values below 35% are diagnostic of cardiac failure. The 5 year mortality for persons with an EF of 10% is above 90%.. However, it is difficult to predict the exact life expectancy. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
