Avatar f tn In June 2007, the FDA approved Lyrica as a treatment for Fibromyalgia. It was initially used/designed for seizure disorders - but like many medications physicians began using it off-label for other conditions. It is now widely used to treat (nerve) pain. It is the only medication that controls my neuropathic pain. All medications, including Aspirin - come with side effects. One of Lyrica's side effects is weight gain. Yup - I've gained 17lbs in a year.
Avatar n tn I am also 23 and I had shingles when I was 19. Its an adult form of the chicken pox and I know it hurts like hell. Unfortunately it will last for a month after you start your meds. You should see another doctor because if in fact you have shingles, it's a virus like the chicken pox, and antibotics won't do anything. You need a viral med. I was prescribed valtrex.
Avatar m tn My mother used these medications for 7 days with no relief. Our family doctor, a general physician (doctor no 3) said it was an insect bite and prescribed Taxim O 200mg for 7 days and another topical cream which my mother used diligently. Its been 40 days now and though the blisters disappeared and the redness reduced (redness comes now and then when she goes out in sun or on physical exertion) the scabs have not fallen off.
Avatar m tn This is the right forum for shingles questions too actually. closest forum we have for it I think! Shingles is incredibly painful for about 50% of those who have a recurrence like you have. Vinegar won't do a think to help with the post herpetic neuralgia you are currently experiencing. I encourage you to call your doctor and be seen today or tomorrow to get medications to help with the pain.
Avatar n tn Hi, Herpes zoster or shingles do present with itchiness but may be more associated with pain or a tingling sensation. Just continue with your medications. In most cases, shingles may resolve spontaneously in 3 to 5 weeks. If the symptoms persist after the medical therapy and if there appears to be no change in the skin condition, then it is best to have this reassessed. A dermatitis or a fungal infection are also differentials.
Avatar f tn Why I still have itching on my scalp & ear, still. It's gonna be 4 weeks my ear is little swollen but it's getting better. I think I still little blisters taking my medications still for pain. & shingles.
Avatar n tn The following antiviral medications are given in some cases for shingles Acyclovir, Famciclovir, or Valacyclovir, to reduce the pain and the duration of shingles.
Avatar f tn https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/shingles/qa/what-conditions-look-like-shingles If you think, even for a minute, that it could be shingles, I urge you to get medical treatment ASAP. The meds available work best when started as soon as possible - the longer you wait, the less effective they are, and shingles can turn into a very painful condition. Please let us know how you're doing.
Avatar m tn I have been to a neurologist, had MRI, had spinal tap and the decision was that I have a shingles virus in the white matter of the brain. While that might be so, it does not explain why my head hurts so much when I cough. The only logical conclusion to me was a short burst of pressure put on the brain when coughing and as far as I know, the only possible way to get that pressure is through the spinal fluid.
Avatar m tn give your provider a call and ask them to call in the acyclovir instead. You take it more often but it works just as well. The cheaper generic price is far worth the pain of taking it more often. acyclovir is way cheaper than valtrex. did you have a recurrence of shingles that you are on medications again? if so, did they confirm that it's shingles with testing or were these just visual diagnosis of shingles?
Avatar n tn I am 75years old, and have been on thyroid meds since 1976, which usually kept my thyroid in check. I came down with shingles about a month ago and was treated with a anti-viral med along with a pain med.(which I only took twice), later that same month I had the regular blood work done. A week later, I was advised my TSH level was 0.11, indicating I was over medicated.
Avatar n tn There has been no drainage, no itching, just occasional sharp pain. I work in long term care, so I have saw Shingles, and this does not look like Shingles.
Avatar n tn Is it possible to have shingles on labia area? Could it be psoriasis, and what type of physician would be best to have an examination. Gynocologist or dermatologist?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Herpes Zoster (Shingles) on my forehead/scalp area on one side of the face 2 weeks ago. Took antiviral medications the minute the rash started to appear, the blisters never got bad. The pain and ithicng though has been there. Can Post Herpetic Neuralgia symptoms develope and be diagnosed within these 2 weeks or it is normal for shingles to produce pain for all this time?

Avatar n tn Help... I was dignosed with shingles about 1 year ago. I thought I had hurt my neck as I had serious pain in the back of my head and neck and swelling. I never got the rash though and now I have had the same symptoms 2 more times. Does anyone know if I am having reoccurances or just nerve pain. Please if there is anyone else who might have the same issues I'd like to know what your doctor thinks.
Avatar n tn Did you get a diagnosis from your physician? I'm curious as shingles will usually develop as a rash and then blister. They have medications that are made to treat shingles...but i'm not sure from what you describe that this is what you actually have. Fibro can also cause that type of sensation.
Avatar n tn Hi, If she had a history of chicken pox, this could be shingles or herpes zoster. Shingles is an outbreak of rash or blisters on the skin. The first sign of shingles is often burning or tingling pain, or sometimes numbness or itch, in one particular location on only one side of the body. After several days or a week, a rash of fluid-filled blisters, similar to chickenpox, appears in one area on one side of the body. Shingles pain can be mild or intense.
Avatar m tn s not something other than an allergy to something. It could be Shingles, which is related to the virus that causes Chicken Pox. Shingles can start out just like you described. If this is Shingles, you will have to reduce contact with other people to prevent the spread of it. The idea that someone who has had Chicken Pox is immune to it is false. I know this from experience. This is something you cannot delay in seeing a doctor about. You need to go now.
