898849 tn?1241811271 I read a recent newstory that stated that Swine flu can be potentially more lethal in people with heart disease because medications used to reduce fluid build up in their lungs will fail to work as effectively if they catch the flu, also the stress of trying to fight off a fever can be too much for their hearts. Cardiologists are recommending that patients with heart disease be among the first to receive the Swine Flu vaccine.

Avatar n tn I have an issue with that. Be carefull with use of blood pressure medications. High blood pressure in such a case is compensatory, and many make the decision to endure the high blood pressure while you have the infection. You will be under tremdous physician's pressure to continue to take the blood pressure meds. but limiting heartrate in your case is very dangerous. Get a BP cuff. Keep your progress posted.

Avatar f tn Are there other co-morbid medical conditions present? Pneumonia usually responds well to antibiotics. If the symptoms persist despite the prescribed medications, a repeat chest x-ray or imaging studies may help determine if the infection is still present. Other considerations to be ruled out include allergic issues as well. Take care and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn One ounce of Magnesium Chloride flakes (Pharmaceutical grade) per one liter of spring water, sipped very slowly throughout the entire day. Repeat for 3-4 days. Your symptoms indicate a viral or bacterial infection and are consistent with bronchiestasis. If it is viral, no medicine can help, once the virus has replicated. If bacterial, amoxicillin is the antibiotic of choice for bronchiectasis. You may want to consider Breathing Exercises for Bronchiectasis.
Avatar n tn starting tb meds empirically is good in the sense that your doctor can always stop the medications if its completely ruled out, rather than waiting 6-8 wks and then finding out it is TB.
1901977 tn?1333991726 I was trying to tough it out but my upper respiratory infection has moved down into my chest and with my asthma, the doctor is really worried about it turning into pneumonia and just put me on the "Z-Pack" (Azithromycin)antibiotics. I'm in my 12th week right now, and really worried about taking them. But the doctor says if my breathing goes bad or I get pneumonia that's much worse for the baby...so I just took my first dose tonight.
Avatar m tn If the pain is severe, injections around the nerves that supply the ribs ,nerve blocks can be used. Compression wraps for broken ribs are not used as prevent taking deep breaths, which can increase the risk of lung infections like pneumonia. Broken ribs usually heal completely in about one to two months. Refer http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/broken-ribs/DS00939 for more details.

938718 tn?1323783514 However, in 1988 a previously healthy 32-year-old pregnant woman was hospitalized for pneumonia and died 8 days later after infection with another variant of swine influenza virus. Pregnant women are also known to be higher risk for seasonal influenza complications and during prior pandemics, and it is reasonable to assume that pregnant women are also at higher risk for swine influenza complications.
Avatar f tn Go to your doctor because medications are needed for pneumonia. Most doctors give meds for bronchitis too, but it is not needed.
Avatar f tn That is quite a lot of medication, especially for a woman who is probably in her 70's. I don't know anywhere near enough about Parkinson's or the meds used to treat it to give you my opinion, let alone an answer. I suggest three things. As her daughter, you have the right to speak with her doctor about your concerns regarding the meds. Secondly, you could speak with your local pharmacist who is a DOCTOR of PHARMACOLOGY and get his learned opinion on your mother's med load.

Avatar f tn Last December, I had pneumonia. They believe I had bronchitis and aspirated during a coughing fit, which caused the complications. The pneumonia cough lingered a few weeks and then I began to have a different type of cough. It can be brought on by drinking ice water and I’ll cough until loose mucous is expelled. Also, mucous will accumulate in the throat when I’m sleeping until I wake up choking. Water isn’t the only time, but it will cause it every time.
