Medications that kill tapeworms

Common Questions and Answers about Medications that kill tapeworms

drug

Avatar f tn As long as you are good about washing your hands, the tapeworms do not pose a huge threat to you or your pregnancy. There are over-the-counter medications that I use on my own pets because I know which medications and how to calculate the dose, but I would try and call you vet if you have one and see if they can advise you on any over the counter medication or are willing to give you medications without seeing her.
Avatar m tn she is suffering from stomach pain when she eats anything .we suspect that these are tapeworms, can u please suggest me what are those white balls. Recently she got that white ball while vomiting too. There are many problems which are given as follows: 1.slight weight loss 2.loss of appetite 3.dehydration frequently and heavy weakness. 4.motions waitng for your reply.its urgent!!!
Avatar f tn And get that good flea medicine that you apply to their skin and it kills the fleas through the oil. I think you have to use the flea medicine for every month for 3 months to kill the flea cycle. The tapeworms are only in the dogs. If your dog swallow a flea or flea egg he could get tapeworms....so watch his poop. You will see them in it. Gross!! If this happens the vet can give you medicine for the tapeworm. But the flea bite won't do anything to you.
Avatar m tn Did you worm her with only the over-the-counter kind of meds? That would be for roundworms, and you should probably get the vet to give you some Drontal for tapeworms. They are more commonly seen in adult kitties than roundworms, which are associated more with kittens. Tapeworms can recur, since they come from prey (from the life cycle of a flea, actually). I would take kitty to the vet, and have her checked for tapeworms, giardia, and flea-allergy dermatitis.
605939 tn?1226277672 Heartgard takes care of all worms except tapeworms. Tapeworms have to be treated with another wormer (like Panacur). Tapeworms are caused by fleas. If you keep a monthly flea and tick preventative on your dog, you lessen the chances for the dog to contract tapeworms.
Avatar f tn The best way to prevent tapeworms is to control fleas. The good news is that tapeworms rarely cause illness, unless your dog has a huge, huge, huge load of them. If the dog's gut is just filled up with tapeworms, the dog can get anemic from their bloodsucking. But then you would be seeing lots and lots of segments, both in the stool and also dried ones sticking to the dog's fur on the rear half of her body. Lots of otherwise healthy dogs have a light infestation of tapeworms.
424096 tn?1223931472 There is another wormer called Drontal that kills other worms besides tapeworms (Cestex and Droncit are strictly for tapeworms) so if your dog has not been wormed in a while, it might be best to take a fecal sample in to the vet's office and let them process it to see if there are other internal parasites as well. That way you can worm the dog for everything at once.
Avatar m tn She has not changed her diet and she does not take any medications. The only thing that has changed in the household in the past month is her older sister got a kitten that was diagnosed with tapeworms and ringworm. Could either of these two things cause my daughters headache and vomiting? She is not sexually active so she is not pregnant.
Avatar m tn In short, if the cat has tapeworms, it is an indicator that the cat has been exposed to fleas, because that is how cats get them -- they get bitten by a flea, eat the flea, and the tapeworm egg inside the flea says thank you very much for the new home. Cats who have fleas don't always show it, they don't sit around and scratch -- they are very fast to just turn and nip up the flea that bit them.
Avatar f tn The 2 boys puppies are having worms. And I saw one of them pooping a tapeworms (just a tapeworms) then it go round. And the other one pooped a tapeworms. I give their mother a deworming precautions last 3days ago. Should I not allow the puppies to have their milk to their mother? And should I give them now rice to eat?
770551 tn?1305578901 Aww...sounds like Dexters doing well. You might try Petco and see if they sell a flea shampoo designed especially for kittens. Something that's very mild. Other than that, I would suggest bathing again. I'm thinking of the dish soap Dawn which is used to get oil off of ocean birds and is supposed to be very mild, but I'm not completely sure about it. Just a little bit if you do.
Avatar f tn Have you ever taken a stool sample to the vet so the kind of worm can be properly identified? For example, you might give an over-the-counter worm medicine available for roundworms, but entirely miss tapeworms. Also, tapeworms appear visibly in the stool every now and again, so if your kitty has tapeworms that would make sense. I don't think your cat is getting worms from her cat food, but she might have a kind of worm that you aren't touching with the worm medication you are using.
Avatar f tn a steroid shot too as I recall. Even so, the ear is still thick where the hemotoma was, enough so that that ear no longer matches the other erect ear (the normal position).
Avatar n tn This sounds a lot like tapeworms. Tapeworms are caused by eating fleas. I don't know about the green diarrea. The dog definitely needs to go to the vet. If it is tapeworms, the vet should give you a pill to get rid of the worms.
Avatar f tn Tylenol is better for aches and pain that come with being sick. You can take it while pregnant but if you just have a sore throat try sucrets and gargle with warm salt water to kill the bacteria in your throat.
Avatar f tn I had a bad cold where I would be coughing up phlem for about 3 weeks. I didn't want to take any medications so my boyfriend would make me natural teas and home remedies for me to get better which would consist of lemon, honey, chayanne pepper, and garlic. Not the best taste but I did get better.
Avatar f tn Anal sacs and worms are the things that come to mind. Have the vet take a look. If it is tapeworms, she will need a prescription from the vet anyway (it's not something over-the-counter medicines take care of).
Avatar f tn Tapeworms are pretty benign, as far as worms go, but if the dog has a lot of them they can cause anemia. Dogs that have tapeworms do sometimes have other worms that cause more severe sickness, so if you see tapeworms, then you will want to do a fecal check for other species of worms, too. Hopefully that was done when you went to the vet two weeks ago, so the doctor can decide whether you need to repeat the worming for other species or just for the tapeworms.
Avatar m tn I found this in the potty of my 4 year old, after emptying the contents (stool) into the toilet. I took pictures :P viewable here: http://laestadian.googlepages.com/wormpics%3F if anyone can identify if its a worm infestation from those. I think its maybe Pinworm (aka Threadworm). After reading something about it on the net, I am going to examine the external anal area tonight because they are apparently visible then. So does the picture look like worms? Thanks.
Avatar n tn For some bizarre reason, they said bring her back if she has tapeworms. We then noticed she had tapeworms, so we took her back for treatment for that. Now today she has tapeworms some more. Just great. I wonder if the tapeworms could have made her feel sick or if the treatment for it made her sick. Kind of dreading having to take her again for that, as maybe she will become ill again. It has just been a never-ending vet trip with this kitten!
Avatar f tn If you have indoor cats and they seem to get worms over and over, be sure you are worming them for the right kind of worms. You can buy (at least in the US) wormers for roundworm at the grocery store, but wormers for tapeworms usually come only from the vet (or online). Tapeworms will go away visually and then come back later, and of course no amount of roundworm meds will get rid of tapeworms.
Avatar m tn re in a cycle where you could be needing to deworm the cat six times a year. The life cycle of tapeworms is that they will show up two months after infestation and start to be a problem for kitty after that, so (though I don't do mine that often) you really *could* be justified in worming that frequently. Deworming for roundworms, on the other hand, is often just a once-in-a-lifetime thing.
1301089 tn?1290666571 Hi! I've run into a couple of issues, nothing serious, but things I've never had a problem with before. I hope someone can offer some insight. !). Every time I eat anything, Pretty Mama always begs for it. I've never had a cat beg for everything I eat. Shrimp or fish, yes. One cat loved cheese and ham. But this cat does it for everything I eat irregardless of what it is. 2). When I was younger and lived alone, my cats stayed in. They used a litter box.
Avatar n tn I know the amount of fleas she had could cause her to be anemic, but could that cause her to not gain weight as well? Is that something that she would need medication for? Thanks again!
Avatar n tn If you do suspect worms, at this young age they would be more likely to have roundworms than tapeworms, because they can get the roundworms from their mama, and tapeworms come from prey (from eating fleas that come from prey). Get a little flea comb (they are super fine-toothed, like a mustache comb) and comb them, they will love it and you can see if they have a flea issue because the fleas will get trapped in the tines of the comb.
