Avatar n tn I also have what appears to be refractory hypertension. One year ago, when hypertension was dx, an echocardiogram indicated only mild regurgitation of the mitral, aortic, and tricuspid valves. My physician, at this time (EP for pacemaker), said this would go away once BP was controlled. Over a year later, despite seeing a hypertension specialist and trying many different drug regimines, BP still remains high.

If it's difficult to get a clear picture of your heart and lungs with a standard echocardiogram, your doctor may recommend a transesophageal echocardiogram A better test to evaluate includes a right heart cardiac catheterization and bypass TEE. Avatar m tn I certainly agree with is_,,, Trying to find the silver bullet, so to speak, has been a search since Heck was a pup, and Dante's Inferno has a place in hell for those who propose nostrums for profit reasons. I'd suggest you follow conventional medications, they have certainly extended my life beyond my expectations. Frankly, to disregard a doctor's prescription to follow an internet threat to me is reckless behavior. You have a serious disease and it is time to face it.

Avatar n tn Thanks for the link. The early result is encouraging. What's really great is that this drug is already approved for hypertension and is being used widely. This makes clinical trials much easier and allows for off-label use by hepatologists. Interestingly, the U.S. and Europe have given up on making recommendations for a one size fits all approach to hypertension. There is now more focus on treating hypertension while taking into consideration other comorbidities.

Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply. I went through all check ups before I knew I am having a panic attacks. And after I found out that everything is fine I stopped visiting a doctor. So I didn't ask for further medical help. The reason way is that I really believe that I can go through this without medications. After using the meds people are going through crises again, so why don't I do that now. I don't have any reason not to.

Avatar f tn In Europe, few doctors would treat white coat hypertension with medications. In United States, it seems like doctors want to treat it. I don't know why there is a difference. Either, US doctors are more up to date, or US doctors are more eager to push medications. I have no idea which one is correct.
Avatar m tn I'm 48 year old male, I had very high untreated hypertension for I don't know how long. I went to the doctor and he prescribed Metoprol 100mg., Lisinopril 25mg., & Norvasc 10mg. daily. Also 1/2 hydrochlorithizide 25mg every other day. Before this there were never ED problems, but since there has been. Are there any other medications to lower blood pressure without this side effect? As of now the hypertension is under control with these meds.
Avatar n tn Dear Dr., My question may or may not belong here but it was my only option and perhaps you can help. I'm a 34 year old female w/ a dual chamber pacemaker due to sinus node dysfunction (implanted 11/07) and have been suffering from refractory hypertension despite seeing a Hypertension Specialist at the University of Michigan. I've had the entire work up for secondary hypertension and nothing has been found thus far.
Avatar n tn Not all medications work the same for everybody but this is my saving grace. I understand Ramipril has a beneficial side effect of strengthening the interior walls of veins and arteries as well. If your BP is over 140 on a fairly regular basis you should seek treatment immediately or you are causing yourself escalating damage that may not show up right away, but can cause you untold problems in the future. I hope this helps you make the right decision sir.
Avatar f tn During the last 3-4 weeks of my pregnancy I was diagnosed preeclamptic/eclamptic. I delivered a week ago and 2 days after I had these horrible headaches with a burning sensation on my neck/back area. My blood pressure was 162/132 I went to the ER and they gave me meds to lower it. I'm now on blood pressure medication...5 pills a day...2 different meds. Has anyone experienced post partum hypertension?
Avatar n tn Hi I've just read somewhere that using St John's Wort can cause Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. I don't know a lot about this condition but i've been using St John's Wort for years for OCD like symptoms. I've never needed medication for it as it's mild, but the SJW helped. Now i'm worried as in the last 6 months i've noticed an irregular heartbeat, but I'm getting it investigated.
Avatar f tn s stomach in time for an endoscopy if they drank a glass of water two hours before an endoscopy - say for example to take their hypertension medications and other meds? In addition, when one is on an IV for some hours, does the water (or fluid) from the IV enter the stomach, causing the stomach not to be empty if one needs to consider getting an endoscopy?
Avatar m tn Adrenal gland problems can cause high BP, defects in blood vessels, pain pills, anxiety, sleep deprivation and some prescription medications. Hypertension is hereditary, and the longer it stays high the more damage it is doing. My husband just suffered a heart attack, and was told the walls of his heart are extremely thick due to years of uncontrolled high BP, and I don't think they come any more mellow than him.
