Avatar f tn I guess Idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy (Peripheral Neuropathy with unknown cause) could be a diagnosis. Peripheral neuropathy can be from toxins (including alcohol,) Diabetic Neuropathy, etc. Once all the "symptom related diseases" have been ruled out, and you can't find a cause, then a diagnosis of Idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy would seem appropriate. I think I'd really like to make sure it is not due to diabetes or heavy metal poisoning, etc.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Diabetic neuropathy develops due to nerve injuries caused by decreased blood flow and high blood sugar levels, more likely if the blood sugar levels are not well controlled. Peripheral nerve injuries may affect the nerves in the skull or the nerves from spinal l column. The goals of treating diabetic neuropathy are to prevent the disease from getting worse and to reduce the symptoms of the disease.
Avatar f tn I am having peripheral neuropathy in feet as well as atrial fibrillation for which the doctor has prescribed Venlafaxine 75mg/d and Acitrom 2mg one daily and 1mg on 2days in a week. When can I stop taking these drugs how?
Avatar n tn Dear Sandy, These symptoms you describe can certainly be caused by diabetic neuropathy. The best defense and treatment for this is to improve the self monitoring of blood glucose, keeping it at normal levels helps prevent the problems. i can sympathize because i have a bit of the neuropathy in my foot and this may be from the fact that at the beginning of my 31 years as a diabetic they didn't control blood glucose as well as they can now.
Avatar m tn diabetic neuropathy in lower limbs which are numb. now spreading to palms and hands. good glyceamic control. associated kidney involvement two yrs ,cr-2.4 mgms%,HTN-controlled.
Avatar m tn PVD produces similar symptoms and is also more common in diabetics. PVD stands for Peripheral Vascular Disease and PAD stands for Peripheral Arterial Disease. They are often used interchangeably. This condition effects the blood vessels in the lower extremities (often other vessels in the body too). So instead of effecting the nerves as in Diabetic Neuropathy PVD effects the blood (oxygen and nutrients) supply.
612876 tn?1355514495 s some news from the front lines (the bleeding edge of research, so to speak) on diabetic peripheral neuropathy. This may be relevant to a few of our community members so I thought it would be appropriate to share: http://www.physorg.com/news203337267.html I do not know if there might be any implications from this research on other forms of peripheral neuropathy.
Avatar n tn ACE inhibitors are widely used, specially in diabetic patients who usually have a higher prevalence of peripheral neuropathy, and worsening of neuropathy on patients caused by these medications is not common. The fact that the side effect is not common does not mean that what you feel is not related to the medication. I cannot really say if the medication is causing you the problem or not.
Avatar n tn Hi, The numbness could be due to a problem with spinal nerves - Nerve entrapment , Nerve compression , Peripheral neuropathy ,Diabetic peripheral neuropathy , Polyneuritis and many other conditions . Please consult a physician and neurologist for the diagnosis . You can take Vitamin B 12 supplements available over the counter regularly to increase the levels . Hope this helps you . Take care and regards !
Avatar n tn People with diabetes often experience sensory loss in their feet as the initial indication of diabetic peripheral neuropathy but multiple motor and autonomic symptoms are also potential problems (that's the "poly" part). I hope that helps to sum it up a little. Do you have diabetes? Are you afraid you might have MS? If you can to tell us a little more we might be able to help you sort it out a little before you check with your doctor.
Avatar m tn Ask your doctor for a Diebetic Foot Check to find out if the pain is related to Diabetes (i.e., Peripheral Neuropathy). Medications are available only to manage the nerve pain associated with the condition.
Avatar n tn I also take a smooth muscle relaxant that helps the constipation (Cialis, in my case, for its dual function) and Alpha Lipoic acid, which has aided my peripheral neuropathy, and may aid the autonomic neuropathy as well. If you mother has primarily diarrhea, then other treatments may be appropriate for her, but there should be a method to stop this problem once the root cause is known. Foods with laxative effects (like Sorbitol), overgrowth of intestinal bacteria, etc. should be ruled out.

Avatar m tn Write down all your questions and answers and try to take someone with you, because you are apt to forget some things. My husband is diabetic, has high BP, peripheral neuropathy and many other health issues. I too, have often thought his medications were to blame, and I go over them with his pharmacist and doctor. I have found a few problems they missed, so it's always a good idea to stay on top of this. Ask why you take each medication and how will it interact with the others.

Avatar m tn One of the extrahepatic manifestations of Hepatitis C is Peripheral Neuropathy. So it is quite possible that your Peripheral Neuropathy is an extrahepatic manifestation of your Hepatitis C infection. (I developed Peripheral Neuropathy, most likely from the Hep C I had. I had the Peripheral Neuropathy long before I ever did treatment so I know for a fact it was not from treatment.
304573 tn?1345577338 This comes from a side effect handbook written by hepatologists. "no i am not diabetic but they tried to tell me i was on the verge of becoming a type 2 - 2 years ago" You mean they told you you were "borderline diabetic"? Avatar m tn s designed specifically for diabetic peripheral neuropathy and designed to help heal the damage, rather than just mask the pain (which is what Lyrica does). Just wanted to add that into the mix as you look for a solution that works well for you.
Avatar m tn Hello dear and welcome to the medhelp forum. Since you are a known diabetic, these could be signs of peripheral neuropathy or proximal or focal neuropathy. Long standing diabetes with poor blood sugar control could be responsible for neuropathy. Other things, which need to be ruled out, are nerve entrapment, vitamin deficiency and autoimmune diseases.
Avatar n tn This drug, if effective, will give us a treatment for diabetic neuropathy on top of regular sugar control." Bethany Klopfenstein, M.D., a diabetologist at the OHSU Diabetes Center, serves as a co-investigator of the study. Klopfenstein, an assistant professor in the OHSU School of Medicine, said "neuropathy is one of the most disabling complications of diabetes, and also the most difficult to treat.
