Common Questions and Answers about Medications and rhabdomyolysis

Avatar f tn If this is not treated, this can result to kidney damage. Early and aggressive fluids and medications may prevent kidney damage by rapidly flushing myoglobin out of the kidneys. The outcome varies depending on the extent of kidney damage. People with milder cases, may return to normal activity within a few weeks to a month or more. It is best that prior to playing, further evaluation may need to be done. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn The muscle weakness you were experiencing definitely seems like it was caused by the Vytorin due to the weakness/fatigue resolving after stopping the Vytorin. ALS and Rhabdomyolysis are two completely different disease states but can be mistaken for one another due to the similar presentation of symptoms of muscle fatigue and weakness.
Avatar n tn I have been having problems with my legs, I walk for about two blocks and they start to feel very heavy and get hard like a rocks. What is wrong with me what is going on with my body?
Avatar f tn In 19 study subjects, administration of a single 20 mg dose of atorvastatin following pretreatment with telaprevir 750 mg every eight hours for 7 days increased the atorvastatin peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and systemic exposure (AUC) by an average of 10.6- and 7.9-fold , respectively, compared to administration alone.
Avatar f tn Dark urine can also accompany rhabdomyolysis. From what I see on line, creatinine kinase is what your doctor should have tested and if it is elevated, the drug should be discontinued.
Avatar n tn i take 81mg aspirin, my triglicerides are 98, do not eat red meat and eat 4-5 fresh friuts and veggies, salmon sardines almonds and fish oil daily with a vigorous cardio workout six times a week . i read that less than 130 ldl was good for no other risks . i am only 17 points above. Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar n tn i woke up yesterday and both my calves were bruised.there was no reason for it.i had high blood pressure and was given lysinopril after 3 months the pressure was normal again so i stopped the medication. Avatar n tn A Potential for Adverse Events Many patients may take their medications with a glass of juice. However, since the accidental discovery of an interaction between the calcium channel blocker, felodipine, with grapefruit juice,1 it has now become evident that grapefruit juice has the potential to alter the plasma concentrations of many medications when they are taken by mouth. In some cases, this may result in undesirable clinical effects of medications.
Avatar n tn I am obviously not in a position to give a diagnosis in this forum, but I imagine that it is highly unlikely that you have rhabdomyolysis if you currently feel well, have no significant muscle discomfort, and have normal-appearing urine. Take care.
Avatar n tn Recently took a blood test and noticed elevated Creatine PhosphoKinase at 268! I exercise, diet and take medications mentioned as part of an overall plan to control cholesterol and blood pressure! Is this elevated CPK of 268 something to be concerned about! What is considered a dangerouis level of CPK? Is it possible CPK is a result of exercising(running and weightlifting) or is it the cholesterol medications that's elevating my CPK?
Avatar n tn Rhabdomyolysis, kidney problems so that I ultimately had to stop them, but knee burning/pain while walking wasn't one of them.

Avatar f tn My Ck levels have been at a 290-400 range for about 2 months and my RNP blood exams have come back positive, I am not allowed to play soccer due to pain in my quadriceps while running, sprinting mostly, also breathing has become more difficult as well.
Avatar f tn So i got diagnosed with Rhabdomyolysis and im in the hospital and i just masturbated in the bathroom. Every morning i get a urine and blood test, when testing my urine they check for myoglobin and check my red blood cell count. My question is if i pee about 3-4 times an hour like i do now will the sperm show up in my urine test tomorrow and if so is there anything they test for that will be off enough to where they question it? And if so should i tell them i masturbated?
Avatar m tn You have been on it for only a month and at a very low dosage at that. E.g. I developed Rhabdomyolysis after five months on Crestor and even tore a ligament in my back without any exertion, but prior to that I had already been on Statins for ten years.
Avatar n tn My suggestion would be to try to avoid your son of doing intense physical activity (if that is possible in a 7 yo kid) and keep him very well hydrated and with good potassium and magnesium intake (e.g. bananas, coconut juice, artichokes, nuts). The workup and different tests will probably take some time so be patient and talk with your doctor if new symptoms develop or if you have new concerns. Good luck.
Avatar f tn My husband has High Cholesterol. They put him on Zocor four years ago. Before the Zocor there was NOTHING wrong with him but the cholesterol. He has now tested positive for kidney failure three years in a row and it has been getting worse, this past year his liver started showing distress. He went off Zocor and magically all his numbers got much better (from stage 3 to stage 2). So they put him on Lipitor.
