Common Questions and Answers about Medicare inpatient rehab reimbursement

rehab

Avatar m tn My question is... Can he still get inpatient therapy at an actual rehab center/hospital and who would cover it? We were told if he left the nursing home he'd lose his medicaid benefits. My dad is doing so well right now and he needs and wants more of it. My family and I are not sure what to do. Any help would be great.
Avatar f tn I did understand and I did read your whole post. There is a difference in outpatient aftercare (NA, PA, AA) and inpatient aftercare (rehab). Rehab is obviously more intense and safer and a great thing if you're falling apart. I went and it didn't haunt me through my personal health record. It is expensive....but can you really put a price on your life and family and well being and happiness? Insurance, many times, will cover it....opiates are sometimes not covered...
523728 tn?1264621521 I am very aware of the cutbacks Medicare has made in reimbursement for drugs resulting in pts. going to a hospital for tx because the small onco. office cannot cover the cost of drug plus the overhead of running the practice. I think the pharm. companies could take a closer look at the cost of the drugs and see if they are being a little greedy. I feel very comfortable in the tx I am receiving and the choices my MD and I have made. He is right on the money for where I am in this disease.
Avatar f tn Well I leave Thursdays to do an inpatient detox and rehab. After several surgeries I became dependent on oxycodone 15mg 5xday. When I first realized I was addicted I tried to ct and ended up passing out due to my Bp dropping. Then I decided to taper but my dr stopped that as well because they said I needed to have a 3rd back surgery even tho my last one was in April. I'm not walking correctly, kinda hunched over.
Avatar n tn My dad had several insurances along with medicare, but the social worker said medicare gave him a checkout date, and that was it. I asked if that could be appealed if he had more work to do or progress to make, but she said no. I have learned now we *could* have appealed it, but we think they just wanted to move him along. At Providence, we *still* learned nothing of his prognosis, what the future could hold, recovery options afterwards.

Avatar m tn t the medical profession one of the culprits being accused of high medical costs as Congress attempts to recover 500 million from Medicare? Since I went on Medicare, the doctors seem to schedule me more for tests and office visits. A lot of expansion and promotion in my area for iol lenses as well as Lasik surgery. Avatar m tn Medicare Pay to Shrink 2% as Sequester Looms on Friday Robert Lowes Feb 27, 2013 Unless a Congressional miracle occurs, Medicare reimbursement for physicians will decrease by 2% as $85 billion worth of automatic, across-the-board budget cuts called sequestration take effect on March 1 for the current fiscal year.
Avatar f tn s bills were -- and from the MDs I know personally, the problem is that Medicare reimbursement rates have gone lower and lower over the years, causing MDs to raise rates on non-Medicare patients to make up the difference. Next time you are at your MD's office, look around: what's the rent cost? what's the salary for the receptionist/bookkeeper, the nurse, the other staff? Add all that up and add on what you consider a reasonable salary for an MD to make.
Avatar m tn in regards to getting myself an inpatient program as the life of on and off is one of pure insanity.Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

521840 tn?1348840771 Unfortunately, many psychologists can no longer afford to participate with insurance companies or Medicaid/Medicare. The reasons for this include low reimbursement rates, frequency of denied payment for services, and the burden of insurance related paperwork. While the situation is problematic, there is no reason to assume that you can not get the care you need. On the bright side, if you can take the time and energy to search, you have a good chance of finding someone who can help.
Avatar m tn So we tried admitting him (while high) to an inpatient drug rehab. He once again said he has delusions and paranoia and even admitted to coke use. He ended up in the psychiatric unit and after a week of eval. he is outpatient with a brand new scrip of psych meds even with his violent tendencies and pissing hot for coke. Anybody know why they went outpatient when is clearly abusing his medication, taking street drugs and threatening people's lives?

1530342 tn?1405016490 On Thursday, even as the Kaiser Family Foundation was reporting further erosion in public support for the health care law, Medicare officials released data showing that health care providers who embraced a new reimbursement scheme saved themselves and taxpayers about $400 million in 2012. That’s a tiny fraction of the nation’s total health care costs, but the savings came from a handful of experimental initiatives that were still ramping up.
Avatar n tn We are in TX and found that the outpatient rehab that was affiliated with the inpatient rehab hospital that my husband was in had water therapy.
415684 tn?1257329318 I know for a fact that Medicare has cut drug reimbursement every year .. some drugs are given in hospitals because small oncology groups cannot afford to give them in their office. I emailed this to my old boss and asked if he wrote it under a pen name! The article speaks the truth about how things are. Cancer is about the only disease I can think of with expensive drugs GIVEN in an office setting where the MD bears the cost ...
Avatar m tn m not certain where you live but in your situation I would recommend an inpatient detox and rehab program. The reason is you show high enthusiasm and readiness to address your addiction head on and because it is placing stress on your family, an inpatient program can provide you a safe environment in which to detox, learn new coping strategies and get established with aftercare. The inpatient programs are highly recommended for people with minimal suppot.
Avatar f tn When you say your insurance will pay for compounded meds, are you taking about Medicare? I want to get my meds compounded but I was told Medicare would not pay for them.
6815927 tn?1395511425 If I remember correctly, you're trying to come off very high doses of Fentanyl and oxycodone. And did I just read yesterday that you are done for some reason with the dr that has been prescribing the patches and won't be getting any more from that dr? Maybe I dreamed that, I'm not sure....but you are down from 200 mcg to 100 on the patches, right? All things considered, your health issues and your drug history....
Avatar f tn My 65 year-old mother had a hemorrhagic stroke in the right perietal lobe - three months ago. She was in the hospital (acute care for two weeks) followed by 6 weeks of inpatient rehab. The last month have done out patient OT and PT and now our OT said that our 10 sessions are up and she suggests that we save our last 8 eight sessions for the fall when mom may have more movement in her hand. She said it is an "act of congress" to get Medicare to pay for extra therapy.
Avatar m tn going away to rehab is scary, but if this is what it will take to get u clean, then i suggest checking in to inpatient rehab. are u talking about crystal meth?/methadon?. getting clean is tough, beyond tough, but the fight is worth it. u need to do whatever it takes right now. i would suggest start by finding an N/A meeting. getting a good support group is essential for any addict so i hope u stick around, u can learn a lot here. best of luck to you. fight with all u have.
Avatar m tn I am new to this forum. I have been using oxy intravenously for 3 months now. I got out of rehab and only made it one month before I went back. My life """"ks! I have hurt my parents physically and financially. They paid everything they had to put me through rehab and here I am back again. I have no money, no job and don't know where to turn. I am in my early 20s and want my life back. I was an athelete and had tons of friends.
Avatar m tn Ask your MD about inpatient rehab. Because w/d can be hellish. Also let your physician perhaps \\suggest a suppot program and psychotherapy, also a pain specialist that can help you w/o opiates.
