Avatar f tn My neuro switched me to Imitrex and since then life has been so much better. I do have to watch for rebound headaches but I can always fix them with Advil or Naproxen.
Avatar f tn I am addicted to Hydrocodone and have been "off and on" for about 3 years. Sometimes I go through periods of not taking them, or taking very little. But in the last few months I've been going on binges. I'd take 3-4 5/500s a day at the most. I am now at the end of one of those binges. I managed to get off them a few months ago and was miserable physically for a good three weeks. Now I want to taper off and STOP.
Avatar f tn Triptans are currently the first-line of treatment for migraine headaches as opposed to NSAIDS such as ibuprofen, as ibuprofen can cause rebound migraine headaches. So I usually suggest that if possible, people avoid over-the-counter medications and stick with migraine medications such as triptans.
1334481 tn?1276697078 Dear NM, Congratulation on achieving your degree. The Maxalt can cause what is called a rebound headache/migraine from overuse. I've not heard of being immune to it. Here are a couple of thoughts that might help you: 1) You and your Doctor may need to consider upping the dosage of topomax. My wife increased her dosage from 50mg to 100mg. At the 50mg dose we did notice a decrease in total number of monthly migraines after discounting for weather from the 25mg dose.
1125820 tn?1265284446 Over-the-counter analgesics such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen and ASA can cause rebound headaches and it is often suggested that migraineurs avoid over-the-counter pain killers. Instead of over-the-counter analgesics, prescription analgesics that are more appropriate for migraine headaches are often prescribed. There is an NSAID called Naproxen that is often prescribed for migraine headaches and Naproxen is less likely to cause rebound headache than the other NSAIDs.
1102283 tn?1257817472 Also, I am fairly sure that barbiturates can cause rebound headaches too. But, for some people these medications can be very useful. If you are prescribed an opiate, then certain opiates tend to be better than others for the treatment of migraines. Usually opiates with lower side-effect profiles are better for migraine headaches than those with high side-effect profiles.
Avatar n tn ve been getting the headaches/migraines about once every two weeks. I take maxalt and fiorinal and the maxalt works much better. The fiorinal does not make a huge difference, so I rarely take it.
Avatar f tn He is increasing my Topamax by one pill a week for 4 weeks so by the end of those 4 weeks I will be takinng 4 pills a day. No relief. He says they are rebound headaches. I doubt this. So he has one more week to figure this out because I am at the end of my rope. I need some advice PLEASE!
573622 tn?1217279489 I have had migraines for 7 years, consistently once a week for at least 48 hours. The only medication that seems to work is Frova, and it is hit and miss. I've tried tracking my migraines and have found very few triggers. I really hate taking pain pills because they seem to give me rebound headaches, and nausea. Just recently I have found that ginger really helps with my migraines and also nausea. I try to eat some everyday and especially if I feel a migraine coming on.
5848391 tn?1380728642 You should really see a doctor if the headaches are so bad. If you keep taking any pain reliever it just causes rebound migraines. If it is the worst migraine that you can imagine, go to the ER. It could be a stroke. That's how my stroke started. It went on for 3 weeks before it fully erupted. See a doctor.
Avatar f tn Most medications can cause rebound headaches. If your migraines are only occassional, ask your Neurologist if you can try Maxalt MLT 10mg. It's fast acting but you will need to observe a strict protocol for usage to prevent rebound headaches. Have you been able to ID your triggers?
Avatar f tn It is an NSAID like advil is, but there is almost no chance that Naproxen will cause rebound headaches. And, I sometimes will use Metoclopramide along with either of my triptans. Metoclopramide makes the triptans more effective, so I take it when the triptans fail or when they are not completely relieving my symptoms. The Metoclopramide is an antiemetic so it stops nausea and vomiting, and so I always take it if I have nausea with my migraine.
Avatar n tn About a year later I began to have periodic headaches. They have been increasing in quantity and severity until about a year and a half ago I had to stop working completely. I am on a combination of darvacet, tramadol, topomax and maxalt. The combination leaves me in bed about 18 hours a day. I have had two MRIs. One with contrast and one without. Neither shows any good reason for my pain.
591470 tn?1218975186 My Neurologist, after two whole years, finally placed me on medication for the headaches. I currently take Maxalt 10 mg), Nortriptyline (75 mg) and Compazine (10 mg). I am hoping that they work, I took one the other day during a Migraine attack, and within an hour it was gone.
Avatar f tn s tried over-the-counter medicines to relieve the pain from the headaches, but they do no good. His doctor will only consider prescription medication as a last resort. Is there anything that he can try to alleviate, or at least lessen, the pain from these headaches?
2048234 tn?1330814100 t remember how many days you have. I had rebound pain of some sort headaches included well beyond 30 days clean. I had a two week period where I really pondered living the rest of my life in pain and if I could but it did pass. I still have pain but not anywhere along the lines of those two weeks and it is manageable.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
Avatar f tn My first 2pregnacys they also gave me vicoden for when migranes were unbearable. This pregnancy my Dr told me I could also take maxalt( I was told w my first 2 that maxalt was not safe AT ALL) after doing some research I decided against maxalt but am continuing firocet.

Avatar n tn Maxalt Melts were the best for stopping the migraines, but after using them for awhile, I started the rebound headaches after using it. - Plus I take a muscle relaxer for my neck. My neck knots up along with my migraines. I have to use an ice pack for my neck. Now I take Amitriptyline (Elavil) 25mg daily, and Gabapentin (Neurontin) 300mg daily to prevent my Migraines. I started with the Amitriptyline first ...
1130095 tn?1267369259 Ask your doctor about Topamax. I had daily headaches for years and this is the only thing that has helped. What most likely is happening is your pain is causing the headaches but the pills or some of the pills your taking are causing "rebound headaches" a lot of pain medications do that. I didn't know that for years and I was suffering. Diclofenac comes in a topical form, if that helps see if the doctor will give it to you that way.
