Common Questions and Answers about Mavic valve

Avatar f tn This common heart defect may prevent the mitral valve from closing tightly and lead to regurgitation. Mitral valve prolapse is common. Many who have it never develop severe regurgitation. If not treated, mitral valve regurgitation can lead to congestive heart failure. Treatment depends on the severity of regurgitation, how far mitral valve disease has progressed, and signs and symptoms of the disease.
Avatar m tn Her VSD was closed with open heart surgery in May 2009, because there was concern it was damaging her aortic valve (classified with mild regurgitation at the time). Since her VSD surgery, her valve has deteriorated enough that she is looking at surgery for her valve in the next few months. We have a meeting next week to discuss it further.
Avatar m tn t know if he could repair the valve until he had my heart open. I had to decide what I wanted him to do is the valve could not be repaired. I chose a mechanical valve, but I was luck and he was able to repair may valve. The surgery was almost 5 years ago, and the valve is still working fine, I had an echocardiogram just a couple of months ago and the valve, all valves, checked out as good.
Avatar m tn m a 52 year old man , i had a aortic valve replace in 2005, in 2006 i had a pacemaker put in, in 2007 my aortic valve leaking again and had nother aortic valve, July 2008 that aortiv valve is leaking.. Should i get a Machanical aortic valve.
Avatar m tn We are confused with the selection of valve between tissue valve and mechanical valve given her child bearing age. Can you please help us with following questions? a) What is the average lifespan of tissue valve? b) What is the best tissue valve? The options I am aware of are porcine, bovine, homograft. c) What are the complications involved in redo surgery? d) What are the precautions to be taken with mechanical valve. e) She also has mild MR.
Avatar f tn Should i go with a mechaical valve or a tissue valve? I am 38 yrs old. I had open heart Dec. 2008, and now one yr later I must go in again. I have a tissue valve now.
Avatar m tn MITRAL VALVE thickening of the mitral valve leaflets was present. systolic anterior motion of the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve was noted. LEFT VENTRICLE/LEFT VENTRICULAR OUTFLOW TRACT Moderate concentric left ventricular hypertrophy was present. A fibromuscular ridge protruding in the left ventricular outflow was present. AORTIC VALVE hypoplasia of the aortic valve was noted.
Avatar f tn Mitral valve prolapse does not lead endocarditis. Mitral valve prolapse is a condition in which the leaflets and tendon-like cords supporting the mitral valve weaken. The result is that with each contraction of the left ventricle, the valve leaflets bulge (prolapse) up into the left atrium. This common heart defect may prevent the mitral valve from closing tightly and lead to regurgitation. However, mitral valve prolapse is common and most people who have it never develop severe regurgitation.

Avatar n tn If I understand the valve is a biological valve, not mechanical... and I understood when my Mitral Valve was repaired that the biological valve has a life of about 10 years.. so your husband has done well I think Yes, I go first to my Cardiologist for advice and expect to go from there to consult with a surgeon. I understand my Mitral Valve repair was for life... but at my age that may well not be more than 14 years as I'll be 81 on the 14th anniversary of my repair.

Avatar n tn Where to take a 13 year old for a mitral valve repair for mitral valve stenosis when she already has a annuloplasty ring. The outlook for a tissue valve not a mechanical valve if replacement is the only option. Menses has already started. However Noonans syndrome is a real possiblility.
Avatar n tn After undergone the 2D echo, cardiologist reads my left valve with mitral valve scleorosis. Is mitral valve can affect pregnancy? I was advised for diet and avoid sweets, is chocolate milk included?
Avatar f tn I assume there is a narrowing of the orifice (valve opening) and medically referred to aorta valve stenosis. More often it is not congenital but a result of calclification that builds up and sometimes effects the leaflets (closes over the orifice) and the leaflets become stiff. Because there is a narrowing of the valve opening there abnormal pressure in the left ventricle as there is now more resistance for the heart top pump against.
Avatar m tn The mitral valve has only moderate stenosis so the decision of operating it at the same time that the aortic valve, will depend on the problem of the mitral valve and your age/risks for the surgery. Leaving the mitral valve for later will implicate a 3rd surgery so you has to discuss w/ your doctor and the surgeons the pros and cons.
Avatar n tn Repair or replace is not an age issue. What is related to age and valve replacement is what type of valve would be appropriate. A biological valve would be the best choice for an older individual and is not recommended for a younger person as the expectation for the valve is less than 15 years. A mechanical valve lasts longer but requires a lifetime of taking blood thinners due to the risk of blood clots. Sometimes the valve can be repaired depending on the underlying cause...
868230 tn?1239764346 Ask your doctor if you are a candidate for this procedure or if you have to have a valve replacement or repair. Is the valve calcified at all?
Avatar m tn Or stiff, fused, inflexible valve leaflets that lead to the narrowing of the aortic valve, which limits or blocks the blood flow. Aortic valve stenosis occurs when calcium is deposited on the valve leaflets, limiting their mobility. If you have severe aortic valve stenosis, you'll usually need surgery to replace the valve. Left unchecked, aortic valve stenosis can lead to serious heart problems.
Avatar f tn My husband had heart surgery 6 yrs ago and chose a mechanical valve (aorta) instead of a tissue valve. He recently had an echocardiogram which shows a narrowing of the opening in the valve and leakage around the outside. Will he require open-heart surgery again to fix this defective valve? What causes the leakage and the narrowing of the opening?
