I recurred about 7 months post chemo. That was carbo/taxol, 6 treatments. Question. Should I consider maintenance therapy? Should it be chemotherapy. I do not want to go on Avistan due to bowel involvement. Has anyone had success with maintenance. My doctors are considering it. One says he doesn't object. The other one said that it can harm my body while off chemo. Is maintenance always chemotherapy? Are there any good drugs out there? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Dear Dr. Goodman ... What is your opinion on maintenance after chemotherapy. I just completed my 6th treatment of gemzar/carbo for recurrence. Prior to my second treatment I had complete secondary cytoreductive surgery. My CA125 is now in the single digits. My CT scan will never be clear. It shows all kinds of problems due to the radical surgery. My doctor is using them to see if any change has occured. I do not want to go on Avistan. Does anything work?

Has anybody had any problems getting insurance to pay for maintenance? My doctor told me since the study came out that maintenance does not work insurance companies no longer want to cover it. I have decided to go back on maintenance, but It was recommended I go for SOC. They have no problems getting this approved even though it will be my 6th or 7th time. I just need something to hold me over until I can get Vertex. Being a relapser my chances of getting in a trail is next to none.

Help with methadone maintenance I don't want to be tied up any more with my daily visits to my clinic. Just wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with switching methadone 95mg once daily, to fentanyl patch 100mcg Hour patch? or know the methadone mg fentanyl dose equivalents?

Miss you guys. Doing well on the Sub maintenance. Steady. Wanted to start my taper last month but too much going on to even think about it. I have found and told my doctor that Sub is the best antidepressant I have ever been on. I have been on a few, but since I have been on the Subs and considering all that I have been thru the past few months, Sub has been a wonderful antidepressant for me. I told my Doctor and he agreed that it does have that effect. I am in no hurry now to start my taper.

Hey...would love to hear from some of you who have been on suboxone maintenance & your thoughts & feelings about it. I am currently on it for a oxycodone addiction. It is really helping me, but I sometimes feel as though I am replacing one drug for another, although I feel I can function in the world without constantly thinking about pills, swallowing them, worrying when I'm going to run out & how to get my next stash. What are some of your experiences good or bad on suboxone?

Maybe one day they will use the PI as maintenance for the ones who dont respond to SOC and PI drugs.Ive heard of aids people liiving a lot longer now because of the PI`s too.Some are with aids for 25 years and still doing ok. "An apple a day keeps the doctor away, But if the doctor is cute forget the fruit.

Im looking for advice on getting through this a little easier. I have no experience with maintenance and the Dr.s are quick to tell you that you cant be successfull in doing it! Please someone help me! Im all alone with a 5 month old baby and need advice!

Hello, I have been having pretty severe maintenance insomnia for the last few weeks and wondering what you would recommend to do about it, as it seems to be getting worse. At first I would wake up in the night because of where I was living at the time due to "environmental disturbances" (ie loud noises at night) and so would get up and go to the bathroom but then fall right back asleep.

when someone is starting a methadone maintenance program, how long does it take or become stable? my boyfriend started about a month ago but has been changing mgs often. he says to stabilize himself.

Since Avastin is not a chemo drug, wondering if it can be used as maintenance on recurrence? We use chemo drugs such as taxol for maintenance but that is toxic...... I did pose this question to Dr A on the forum, the Dr felt it was a good question and since Avastin was so new, did not really have the answer. Does anyone here have any info?

He went on methadone maintenance in July and it has taken him to his worst depths. He is still shooting drugs, is addicted to XANAX and anxiety pills. He will take a whole bottle at a time and is also drinking regularly. He has been hospitalized twice in the last month, picked up by police multiple times and has been near death at times. He is completely out of his mind.

Decided to go back on maintenance but my insurance would no longer pay for maintenance. They did however approve 72 more weeks of SOC. Got my meds and drew blood for my baseline and was getting ready to start. I got a call from the doctor and was told not to start that may baseline came back undetectable. Retested after 3 weeks and still undetectable . So the interferon sits in the fridge and I am going to get tested every 2 months for the next year.

I think swimming helped with maintenance for three reasons. First, as the weeks and months rolled by I became stronger and increased the number of laps, I benefited from the endorphins my body was producing, plus the shear exhaustion was giving me wonderful night's sleep. Secondly, my investment and accomplishment (ever so small,but accomplishments none the less) of increasing the distance I swam became a motivation to avoid going back to taking pills.

I would like some information on maintenance chemo.I have ovarian 3c and I've had 3 treatments or Carbo and Taxol.My CA-125 went from 170 after surgery to 102 after 1st chemo to 16 after 2nd chemo.I hardly have any side effects from the chemo so I figure i can't hurt me.I spoke to my doctor about it and she said to ask her after my 5th chemo.I'm from Quebec,Canada and we have medicare here and I feel like doctors don't do much unless you are in serious condition.
