Avatar f tn I have started taking Norvasc for Hypertension and am having side effects such as nausea, headache, and it seems to be causing some eye pain and pressure. My concern is that I had retinal detachment surgery in March of 2008 and have not had any pain until I started taking Norvasc 5mg. daily. Is this a side effect that is normal and will it subside or is it a reason to discontinue this drug?
Avatar n tn My 79 year old mother, who lives in another state, is on medication for hypertension. She takes Carvedilol, Diovan, Dilitiazem, and Clonidine. Her doctor even talked about putting her on a fifth medicine. I'm not a doctor, but it doesn't make sense to me for anyone to have that many different prescriptions for one problem.
Avatar m tn Currently I am on multiple of 3 BP pills for 6 or more depending on how high my BP goes, and 2 of 1 relaxent pill. Is there any value in getting acunpuncture to lower my BP. I'm only having a problem with the stystolic number mainly ranging between 150 and 220. If yes, is there a good site to go for a qualified acupuncturist for hypertention in the Detroit area? Also, I've had all the tests listed on webmd and more for hypertension, nothing was found wrong over the last 15 years.
Avatar n tn I also have what appears to be refractory hypertension. One year ago, when hypertension was dx, an echocardiogram indicated only mild regurgitation of the mitral, aortic, and tricuspid valves. My physician, at this time (EP for pacemaker), said this would go away once BP was controlled. Over a year later, despite seeing a hypertension specialist and trying many different drug regimines, BP still remains high.
Avatar m tn I certainly agree with is_,,, Trying to find the silver bullet, so to speak, has been a search since Heck was a pup, and Dante's Inferno has a place in hell for those who propose nostrums for profit reasons. I'd suggest you follow conventional medications, they have certainly extended my life beyond my expectations. Frankly, to disregard a doctor's prescription to follow an internet threat to me is reckless behavior. You have a serious disease and it is time to face it.
Avatar n tn Good for you for quitting smoking, coffee, and high salt intake--and for losing weight. Are you physically active on a regular basis (like walking 30-45 minutes 5 or 6 times a week)? Exercise may help to bring your blood pressure down. Also, do you drink milk or eat yogurt every day? Because they have calcium in them, these foods can help control blood pressure, too. (Nonfat types are best, and look for yogurt that has Vitamin D listed on the label.) What about alcohol use?

Avatar m tn I am a 69 old male with a hypertension and ischemia diagnosis and I have a doubt. My question is why there are some days when I take my blood pressure the readings between left and right arm are very big. For example today early in the morning my left arm show a lecture of 150/100 and the right 135/95, I wait for ten minutes and my reading were 135/92 and 125/82. Can you tell me the reason why this happen.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply. I went through all check ups before I knew I am having a panic attacks. And after I found out that everything is fine I stopped visiting a doctor. So I didn't ask for further medical help. The reason way is that I really believe that I can go through this without medications. After using the meds people are going through crises again, so why don't I do that now. I don't have any reason not to.
1124887 tn?1313754891 So, yes, you are correct that propanolol works better for anxiety due to the nonselective effect. In terms of your white coat hypertension, we do know that having white coat hypertension is not something to ignore and I actually recommend treating people even with white coat hypertension because getting blood pressures in the 150's at any time are not good.
Avatar m tn Went for simple eye exam 2 wks. ago.....didn't think they would take my BP, but the minute they said they would take it, I immediately freaked out...it was 195/124 and the eye doctor wanted me admitted to the ER! Told him I have severe white coat syndrome and my BP is always elevated when I visit any doctor or clinic. It's been two wks. since that exam and I am freaking out. He scared me so much that I can no longer take my BP at home with a home monitor for fear it will be high.
Avatar f tn What type of medications are being prescribed for your high blood pressure? beta blockers? ace inhibitors?
Avatar f tn During the last 3-4 weeks of my pregnancy I was diagnosed preeclamptic/eclamptic. I delivered a week ago and 2 days after I had these horrible headaches with a burning sensation on my neck/back area. My blood pressure was 162/132 I went to the ER and they gave me meds to lower it. I'm now on blood pressure medication...5 pills a day...2 different meds. Has anyone experienced post partum hypertension?

Generally feeling crap really. They say no symptoms silent killer etc...But i am not sure what else it can be.....It feels like now and again i get a few heart palps too. But it's the light headedness that sends me nutty........ I take my readings like 9 times a day obssesively.
Avatar f tn Hypertension is associated with the resistence of the vessels the heart pumps against. For instance, the smaller the diameter of the vessel the more resistance...diameter can be reduced by a buildup of plague and/or soft plaque that narrows (stenosis) the lumen (vessel channel). Medication that dilates the vessel reduces the resistance. Trivial MV regurgitation does not have any symptoms and is considered medically insignificant.
Avatar n tn My doc thinks that I may have genetic hypertension. He recommended that I reduce my salt intake for the time being while waiting for the urine test results (testing for Pheochromocytoma). My doc knows abt my family history of hypertension. But what abt my abnormal ECG results? It indicated a sinus rythmn and right axis deviation which meant pulmonary disease pattern with RVH. It also indicated 1st degree AV blockage.
Avatar f tn are you treated for your hypertension? no matter the cause, it shoud be treated with at least two medications. possible tests might be eye exam, echo cardiography, kidny doppler or vascular imaging, to see if one of the arteries to your kidneys is too thin, some blood tests for cortisol, thyroid function, calcium, cathecolamines. seeing your weight and reducing it if high, and more.
Avatar m tn t think it is directly causing hypertension, I found psychcentral says PTSD can make a person prone to hypertension. Your blood pressure ratings are through the roof, are you taking a medication for it? I too have been diagnosed with PTSD and have usually high blood pressure but mine is nowhere near that high and seems to fluctuate. Are you on medication for the PTSD as well?
Avatar f tn Thanks for the detailed info. Seems like I have to go vegetarian. I will ask my doc to take the Mg measure to check levels. Much apprepriated.
Tbd Hello and welcome to MedHelp. Thank you for the question. Has your family member been diagnosed with pregnancy hypertension? This is important to work with her doctor. If the doctor feels it needs to be managed medicinally, they will best guide them. There are medications that should be completely avoided during pregnancy. Here is information on managing hypertension during pregnancy. https://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the reply I will
Avatar f tn It's possible that you have what they call "white coat hypertension" and its also possible that you have high blood pressure for real... Most drs dont put a patient on high blood pressure medication with the first high reading but its disturbing that your dr just assumed you are a hypochondriac..
Avatar m tn It may be possible that you will need to take a pill daily to keep your pressure lower because, like I said before a blood pressure in that range places you at risk for stroke or heart attack. I Hope This Helps.
