marinol vs sativex

Has anyone who lives in Canada been prescribed Sativex, the cannabis based med? My reading shows that it is really good for numbness. Of course, can't get it here in the states. Worried we might all become junkies!

Is it of your opinion that Marinol can be an alternative drug to treat Multiple Sclerosis? I cannot handle shots, and I know there are many side effects from the shots.

t get a doctor to prescribe me xanax, but they will prescribe alprolozam? Also, how do I get a doctor to prescribe Marinol? I am in constant pain -again due to Fibromyalgia. Marijuana is the only thing that helps me. I've had hundreds of different prescriptions and treatments over the last 17 years and nothing but a massage, hot tub, and Marijuana help ease my non-stop pain.

I had a good conversation with my pharmacist today, he said he handles it rarely but does have a customer who is a MS patient who has been able to get off all other pain meds because Sativex gives her great relief. He commented that it must not taste very good (it's a mouth spray) because a vial was broken recently and the smell was awful. I read others comment about the terrible taste on other message boards.

Medicare coverage depends on doctor's DIAGNOSIS which must be "cachexia related to cancer" along with dose not exceeding FDA label maximum for the diagnosis. I do not know the FDA rules. The "alternative" is just dronabinol, the generic name of marinol. Marinol is synthetic THC, an oil/liquid at room temp, but provided as gel tabs which must be kept refrigerated. Marinol is NOT the CBD discussed on TV for kids.

I want and need to stop smoking pot but want to avoid the w/d's, need to work etc. It's my understanding Marinol can ease the symptoms considerably. Anyone know how to get it? I tried going to the Dr but he would not prescribe it off-label. Any suggestions?

I've read about some people diagnosed with ADD taking marinol as a form of medication. I was wondering what effects it would have when taken with adderall, or as a replacement for other meds. What sort of side effects, and/or lack of side effects to make other meds more effective.

There's a form of marijuana in pill form... it's called MARINOL (Dronabinol). I was put on it when I lost 40lbs as a side-effect of taking another medication. The side-effect of MARINOL, is that it gives you the munchies and MAKES you want to eat. Gained the weight back slowly, and stopped taking it. Makes me wonder why they went all-out, and went the actual marijuana route, instead of trying MARINOL first.

It is not like I could even think about smoking a whole joint or anything like that. Canada has allowed Big Pharma into the Medical Marijuana game (Sativex). The US is not yet ready for that. Marinol isn't even close. All THC and no CBN, and there have been overdoses with Marinol. I hold a great job with a fortune 20 company that knows I augment the treatment my disease with MMJ. They are not worried about it.

My dad takes oxycodone 15mg/ oxycontin 20mg/ marinol 2.5mg/ and ibuprofen 220mg Marinol is synthetic marijuana and it is doing wonders for his back pain. But if this is the case then shouldn't he theoretically be able to go off of the oxy's? I am so confused. Doctors don't tell me about liver or kidney protection and that is one of my first concerns.

I've been dealing with horrible spasticity since April and has gotten worse. I don't sleep much anymore at night and I work full time. My MRI shows no changes (minimal) and thoracic spine has no lesions. I've tried so many medications including sativex. I'm so tired and done with it all. I've also tried amitripyline, carbonmezipine, sinemet, quinine, nabilone and nothing. Please help....

I have liver cirrhosis and when I became ill, my doctor prescribed Marinol for weight gain. I had lost 85 lbs and gained 30 pounds with this treatment. My doctor discontinued the Marinol and my weight decreased. I am 6'2" tall and am considering smoking marijuana to achieve the weight gain I am comfortable with. Will this method injure my liver further or have no real effects to it?

HI Michele, I had to stop triple therapy at end of 19 weeks due to side effects. I am at week 21. I have to admit I thought the side effects would go away after tx stopped, never expected some to get worse and others to return. At about week 17 I started to get the same edema of face, hands & feet. With the same rash you describe and my hair is also about 80% gone with more falling out daily just by touch. My skin is itchy and , I have cracks on my feet & hands feel like sandpaper.
