There's a form of marijuana in pill form... it's called MARINOL (Dronabinol). I was put on it when I lost 40lbs as a side-effect of taking another medication. The side-effect of MARINOL, is that it gives you the munchies and MAKES you want to eat. Gained the weight back slowly, and stopped taking it. Makes me wonder why they went all-out, and went the actual marijuana route, instead of trying MARINOL first.

Medicare coverage depends on doctor's DIAGNOSIS which must be "cachexia related to cancer" along with dose not exceeding FDA label maximum for the diagnosis. I do not know the FDA rules. The "alternative" is just dronabinol, the generic name of marinol. Marinol is synthetic THC, an oil/liquid at room temp, but provided as gel tabs which must be kept refrigerated. Marinol is NOT the CBD discussed on TV for kids.

If there is still no improvement then medicines like megestrol (i.e., Megace) and dronabinol (i.e., Marinol) can be taken.For that a prescription and consultation of a doctor are mandatory. It would be great if i didnt have to use marijuana and break the law, and could legaly use marinol and feel normal.

Someone suggested using dronaninol....does anybody know if or how long dronabinol shows up in a drug test and whether it shows up as thc?

Marinol is THC or "Medical" Marijuana. People with ADHD who use it are self medicating and (possibly) avoiding the issue of treating the real problem. I am sure that it makes them feel better. And there are probably "shops" out there that will "prescribe" it for you. As far as I know, no legit psychologist or psychiatrist would do so.

Is it of your opinion that Marinol can be an alternative drug to treat Multiple Sclerosis? I cannot handle shots, and I know there are many side effects from the shots.

My dad takes oxycodone 15mg/ oxycontin 20mg/ marinol 2.5mg/ and ibuprofen 220mg Marinol is synthetic marijuana and it is doing wonders for his back pain. But if this is the case then shouldn't he theoretically be able to go off of the oxy's? I am so confused. Doctors don't tell me about liver or kidney protection and that is one of my first concerns.

Is Marinol pills good to use in kids who have seizures from Chiari malformation type 1

I have liver cirrhosis and when I became ill, my doctor prescribed Marinol for weight gain. I had lost 85 lbs and gained 30 pounds with this treatment. My doctor discontinued the Marinol and my weight decreased. I am 6'2" tall and am considering smoking marijuana to achieve the weight gain I am comfortable with. Will this method injure my liver further or have no real effects to it?

I want and need to stop smoking pot but want to avoid the w/d's, need to work etc. It's my understanding Marinol can ease the symptoms considerably. Anyone know how to get it? I tried going to the Dr but he would not prescribe it off-label. Any suggestions?

HI Michele, I had to stop triple therapy at end of 19 weeks due to side effects. I am at week 21. I have to admit I thought the side effects would go away after tx stopped, never expected some to get worse and others to return. At about week 17 I started to get the same edema of face, hands & feet. With the same rash you describe and my hair is also about 80% gone with more falling out daily just by touch. My skin is itchy and , I have cracks on my feet & hands feel like sandpaper.

Hi all, Since my last post, my daughter got a gtube to match her jtube and had an upright MRI to rule out Chiari malformation (it was ruled out). The gtube stopped her vomiting (it all comes out the gtube now), but daughter still has terrible pain and nausea and diarrhea with jtube feeds. The marinol and promethazine do MOSTLY knock her out so she doesn't feel the pain while feeding, but she wakes up anyway to run to the bathroom with diarrhea and yell from the pain.

You may want to inquire about the use of Marinol. It's somewhat controversail, but can help in some cases.

Pot works. (I don't use it, but a friend has been going through some bad Chemo and it's the only thing that works for him.

Hi there - yes, this is a BIG side effect for me. Look at all my posts ;) they are always after midnight. I find a couple things have helped me. One, you can get Ambien prescribed which is a sleep aid. The other thing I tried which has helped the most is Marinol. This is the "pot" pills that are prescribed to cancer patients for nausea and lack of appetite. If you take it an hour before bed, you will usually fall right to sleep.

My neuro feels it can help spasticity and there are studies out of UCSD that prove this. His facility will not recommend the use, but he supports the use if a doctor outside his facility recommends it. In Colorado, it is legal (Amendment 20 to the Colorado Constitution) and the recommendation costs about $60 a year. I guess to address twopack, the idea is not to get "wasted" like highschool, but to get enough to function or sleep and reduce the prescription drugs.

t say anything to me about it but I was also supposed to be taking Marinol (which is the legal pharmacological version of marijuana) because of stomach disorders I suffer from that cause me tons of severe chronic nausea/vomiting, extreme weight loss, and even severe to debilitating chronic pain but my ins.
