Common Questions and Answers about Marinol synthetic thc

marinol

Avatar m tn Marinol is legal in the US and is available by prescription. It is not real marijuana but man-made or synthetic THC. THC is one of the psychoactive components in marijuana; however real marijuana has other chemical componds that Marinol does not such as CBD (cannabinoid) that isn't very psychoactive but helps significantly reduce inflammation, relaxes muscles, and relieves pain. Marinol is typically prescribed to cancer patients to help with the pain, nausea, and to increase appetite.
Avatar m tn Medicare coverage depends on doctor's DIAGNOSIS which must be "cachexia related to cancer" along with dose not exceeding FDA label maximum for the diagnosis. I do not know the FDA rules. The "alternative" is just dronabinol, the generic name of marinol. Marinol is synthetic THC, an oil/liquid at room temp, but provided as gel tabs which must be kept refrigerated. Marinol is NOT the CBD discussed on TV for kids.
Avatar m tn I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I am in Athens, GA; does anyone know of a doctor willing to prescribe this medicine for pain (when you have not been diagnosed with a cancer...yet?
Avatar f tn I'm not dx with ms, but have other conditions where mmj ,not marinol, helps me greatly. mmj also helps me with the weird sx I've been having since Jan '09. Marinol is synthetic tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) one of many compounds found in the in the cannabis plant. I hope this helps. The Rest Here: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/115748.
Avatar f tn They are hard to find but typically the doctor you would visit to get your MMJ license renewed would prescribe the opioids or refer you to another doctor that is MMJ Friendly. Another option is for you to ask the doctor for a prescription for Marinol...it is synthetic THC. I should mention that when my mother was dying from cancer, she said that the Marinol wasn't helping her eat, it was only the real marijuana that helped but things may be different for you. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Marinol is THC or "Medical" Marijuana. People with ADHD who use it are self medicating and (possibly) avoiding the issue of treating the real problem. I am sure that it makes them feel better. And there are probably "shops" out there that will "prescribe" it for you. As far as I know, no legit psychologist or psychiatrist would do so.
Avatar m tn I mean THC derived from cannabis.
Avatar m tn My dad takes oxycodone 15mg/ oxycontin 20mg/ marinol 2.5mg/ and ibuprofen 220mg Marinol is synthetic marijuana and it is doing wonders for his back pain. But if this is the case then shouldn't he theoretically be able to go off of the oxy's? I am so confused. Doctors don't tell me about liver or kidney protection and that is one of my first concerns.
1162446 tn?1262804903 melissakay - yes, medical marijuana is available in pill form by the name of Marinol. It contains THC which is the active ingredient of the marijuana plant. Some people swear it only works for pain and/or nausea control when smoked and won't use the legal Marinol for that reason. I'll admit I tried smoking it myself years ago when I was vomiting several times a day from the worst bowel obstruction I've ever had. (Lost a couple feet of colon from that event.
Avatar f tn God I hate this phone just drink lots of water they can't do anything to you just because of this. As long as the baby doesn't have thc in their system when they are born they can't do anything to you dear. If they get too rude I would just switch doctors. My doctors know I smoked but they didn't even write it down when I had my first visit of the 21 questions. they have everyone pee, every time right before you're visit. At my doctors anyway. you'll be fine!
Avatar f tn The closest thing would be synthetic THC, and while that is used medicinally and helps some people it also has side effects that the natural plant doesn't have. But if you look on the archives of just this forum, you will find a whole lot of people who got their first anxiety attacks while stoned. It's the main reason most people stop using the stuff eventually -- it stops being fun.
Avatar f tn As to whether it would help or not, no knowledge of your condition. THC, the synthetic product, you can google for side effects -- it was very hard and took a long time to synthesize THC because it's very unstable, and my own opinion is, if you can get it grown in the ground, why get it from far less perfect human intervention?
461838 tn?1255790216 There are plenty of people who are medically prescribed THC or Marijuana. I don't know that there are any HEALTH benefits from THC consumption - but it has been proven to help glaucoma and also has been known to stop nausea. It is illegal in most states and Federally. Alaska is unique. Check into each state's laws to determine what is legal for your state.
Avatar n tn this "synthetic" marijuana is Not marijuana at all! It is Not natural has no THC , usually it is sage or some other organic material that is sprayed with man made chemicals, ,that are labled "not for human consumption" and are legal only if sold with that warning. although rare some people are allergic to THC (cannabinoids), like other substances.
Avatar f tn I've never heard of dronabinol. Is it some form of medical mary jane? As far as THC showing up in a drug test, I've heard to assume 30 days because it gets in your fat cells. Probably wouldn't take as long for an occasional user, but I'm not really sure. Good luck, it probably would help with your appetite. Where do you live? 13 states have medical marijuana if you are in the US.
1353720 tn?1414503124 re describing studies done on pharmaceutically isolated parts of marijuana, meaning studies that led to the development, for example, of synthetic THC. The other problem with marijuana is it makes you stoned and keeps you stoned for a fair amount of time these days, again unlike the natural weed that is stronger in certain parts of the world but was naturally lower in all active compounds because it wasn't bred to be mostly flower tops and which had a fairly short high.
1159737 tn?1286517257 That is hard on you to take that much Tylenol every day, the mmj would benefit you, but ask your doctor about Marinol (not sure if im spelling it right), a synthetic pill form so that you dont have to smoke, if your doc is open minded. It isnt quite the same but, its worth a try. I think that It helps me put the pain in the back of my mind, sometimes it breaks through when it its intense. But the dull achey pains that are constant are eased enough to not think about as much.
620048 tn?1358018235 My neuro feels it can help spasticity and there are studies out of UCSD that prove this. His facility will not recommend the use, but he supports the use if a doctor outside his facility recommends it. In Colorado, it is legal (Amendment 20 to the Colorado Constitution) and the recommendation costs about $60 a year. I guess to address twopack, the idea is not to get "wasted" like highschool, but to get enough to function or sleep and reduce the prescription drugs.
1312898 tn?1314568133 Oral preparations of synthetic THC (Marrinol) have been around for more than 25 years. Marrinol has been associated in 4 deaths since it was introduced. No known deaths have been associated with smoking marijuana. At some point, people seem to get too stoned to smoke any more. There is a LD-50 (Lethal Dose) for oral ingestion. Sativex, a mouth spray for multiple sclerosis patients, who can use it to alleviate neuropathic pain and spasticity is available in Canada.
Avatar m tn I think you're confusing CBD oil, which is usually derived from hemp and doesn't get you stoned, with using marijuana, which has high levels of THC and will get you stoned. Some people believe strains of marijuana that contain both CBD and THC are better at treating anxiety as they are more natural than just isolating out CBD. You can't isolate out THC, as it's very unstable, though there are synthetic forms of it that have their own problems.
Avatar m tn I want and need to stop smoking pot but want to avoid the w/d's, need to work etc. It's my understanding Marinol can ease the symptoms considerably. Anyone know how to get it? I tried going to the Dr but he would not prescribe it off-label. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Marijuana contains the cannabinoid drug THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is its primary psychoactive chemical, as well as other cannabinoids. Marijuana Affects Male Sperm Results of the study were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine in San Antonio."The bottom line is, the active ingredients in marijuana are doing something to sperm, and the numbers are in the direction toward infertility," said Lani J. Burkman, Ph.D.
Avatar n tn They know it works and that is why they provide it to individuals. Sadly, Marinol, a synthetic THC (pot) has been on the market for decades and has never had any side effects. If we can give synthetic marijuana, why not the natural? Profits, or lack thereof, if it were not a scheduled drug. Defies logic, that's for sure.
