Common Questions and Answers about Marinol nausea

marinol

Avatar m tn I took 1 2.5 mg Marinol cap about 2 weeks ago. I don't do drugs. The pill was taken by mistake. Am I positive for THC?
Avatar m tn Medicare coverage depends on doctor's DIAGNOSIS which must be "cachexia related to cancer" along with dose not exceeding FDA label maximum for the diagnosis. I do not know the FDA rules. The "alternative" is just dronabinol, the generic name of marinol. Marinol is synthetic THC, an oil/liquid at room temp, but provided as gel tabs which must be kept refrigerated. Marinol is NOT the CBD discussed on TV for kids.
Avatar n tn The problem with prescribing marinol is that many chemo patients have trouble keeping ANYTHING down. Taking a pill for nausea is not helpful if it comes right back. When you are so sick that you cannot hold down your meds, smoking a little weed can give you relief. It doesn't take much, just a couple of tokes will quell the nausea and maybe give you a bit of an appetite.
Avatar f tn I've read about some people diagnosed with ADD taking marinol as a form of medication. I was wondering what effects it would have when taken with adderall, or as a replacement for other meds. What sort of side effects, and/or lack of side effects to make other meds more effective.
Avatar f tn I'm a 58-year-old white female who has had S.L.E. for approximately 35 years. My primary manifestation is severe and debilitating nausea. I also now have heart involvement and am pacer dependent. I have an excellent gastroenterologist. He and other doctors have said that it's a very difficult case to treat. It is unusual as it is marked by very few remissions and has become drug resistant. On a typical day I will wake up with severe nausea, and it sometimes lessens after 3-4 hours.
Avatar m tn I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I am in Athens, GA; does anyone know of a doctor willing to prescribe this medicine for pain (when you have not been diagnosed with a cancer...yet?
Avatar n tn I had a CCK done and my liver and gallbladder have been checked and everything seems fine. My primary doctor has put me on Marinol because he has tried all other nausea and vomiting medicines on me and none of them worked. The Marinol has significantly slowed the vomiting. However, I don't want to settle for being on medicine and being sick all of the time. I want to find out the underlying cause of what is going on with me.
Avatar n tn The usual dry mouth, breaking out all over, nausea, and just being TIRED all the time, are the ones that bothered me the most. Well, I'll quit rambling and wish you all success in your treatment.
Avatar m tn I want and need to stop smoking pot but want to avoid the w/d's, need to work etc. It's my understanding Marinol can ease the symptoms considerably. Anyone know how to get it? I tried going to the Dr but he would not prescribe it off-label. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn The gtube stopped her vomiting (it all comes out the gtube now), but daughter still has terrible pain and nausea and diarrhea with jtube feeds. The marinol and promethazine do MOSTLY knock her out so she doesn't feel the pain while feeding, but she wakes up anyway to run to the bathroom with diarrhea and yell from the pain. She now takes a little immodium to try to stop the diarrhea, but we can't seem to find that sweet spot between diarrhea and constipation.
Avatar n tn My 30 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with idiopathic gastroparesis after suffering vomitting, nausea, diarrhea or constipation for 5 years. She is also borderline bi-polar II. One of her big problems is she has reactions to many meds. For instance, she cannot take any antihistamines, nor phenergan, or compazine because they result in severe akathesia. She can tolerate Reglan and is on that 4 times a day and has been prescribed Zofran, which helps some.
163305 tn?1333668571 There's a form of marijuana in pill form... it's called MARINOL (Dronabinol). I was put on it when I lost 40lbs as a side-effect of taking another medication. The side-effect of MARINOL, is that it gives you the munchies and MAKES you want to eat. Gained the weight back slowly, and stopped taking it. Makes me wonder why they went all-out, and went the actual marijuana route, instead of trying MARINOL first.
Avatar n tn Hi there - yes, this is a BIG side effect for me. Look at all my posts ;) they are always after midnight. I find a couple things have helped me. One, you can get Ambien prescribed which is a sleep aid. The other thing I tried which has helped the most is Marinol. This is the "pot" pills that are prescribed to cancer patients for nausea and lack of appetite. If you take it an hour before bed, you will usually fall right to sleep.
Avatar f tn Is it of your opinion that Marinol can be an alternative drug to treat Multiple Sclerosis? I cannot handle shots, and I know there are many side effects from the shots.
Avatar m tn My dad takes oxycodone 15mg/ oxycontin 20mg/ marinol 2.5mg/ and ibuprofen 220mg Marinol is synthetic marijuana and it is doing wonders for his back pain. But if this is the case then shouldn't he theoretically be able to go off of the oxy's? I am so confused. Doctors don't tell me about liver or kidney protection and that is one of my first concerns.
Avatar n tn t get a doctor to prescribe me xanax, but they will prescribe alprolozam? Also, how do I get a doctor to prescribe Marinol? I am in constant pain -again due to Fibromyalgia. Marijuana is the only thing that helps me. I've had hundreds of different prescriptions and treatments over the last 17 years and nothing but a massage, hot tub, and Marijuana help ease my non-stop pain.
Avatar f tn Is Marinol pills good to use in kids who have seizures from Chiari malformation type 1
Avatar m tn I have liver cirrhosis and when I became ill, my doctor prescribed Marinol for weight gain. I had lost 85 lbs and gained 30 pounds with this treatment. My doctor discontinued the Marinol and my weight decreased. I am 6'2" tall and am considering smoking marijuana to achieve the weight gain I am comfortable with. Will this method injure my liver further or have no real effects to it?
1461073 tn?1308677548 His condition, weight, etc have all be declining very rapidly, and whatever this is it is very aggressive. He has a lot of nausea and vomiting, he has dropped from 204 on 8/24/18 when he went to ER, to 183.2 at time of his surgery on 10/5/18. We are really hoping they get a final report soon so he can begin treatment for this. Have any of you all had this issue if so can you tell me what worked for you?
1162446 tn?1262804903 melissakay - yes, medical marijuana is available in pill form by the name of Marinol. It contains THC which is the active ingredient of the marijuana plant. Some people swear it only works for pain and/or nausea control when smoked and won't use the legal Marinol for that reason. I'll admit I tried smoking it myself years ago when I was vomiting several times a day from the worst bowel obstruction I've ever had. (Lost a couple feet of colon from that event.
Avatar f tn HI Michele, I had to stop triple therapy at end of 19 weeks due to side effects. I am at week 21. I have to admit I thought the side effects would go away after tx stopped, never expected some to get worse and others to return. At about week 17 I started to get the same edema of face, hands & feet. With the same rash you describe and my hair is also about 80% gone with more falling out daily just by touch. My skin is itchy and , I have cracks on my feet & hands feel like sandpaper.
461838 tn?1255790216 The problem with nausea meds like zofran, and pills like marinol, is that during cancer chemo the nausea can be so bad that the patient cannot tolerate oral meds. I tried prescription nausea meds but they were horribly expensive and not particularly effective, even when I could hold them down.
917763 tn?1311628896 Medical marijuana is not legal in our state. I spoke to my PA about getting Marinol for the awful nausea I had, and she said it's usually prescribed to cancer patients, and would probably be questioned by the insurance company. Instead, she prescribed Zofran, which is also used by cancer patients, and is very very expensive without insurance.
