Avatar f tn This study follows a similar one that showed the oral cannabis spray consistently reduced MS-associated neuropathic pain, and patients did not develop a tolerance or need to increase dosage to obtain relief. In addition to symptomatic relief, cannabinoids appear to slow the progression of the disease.
Avatar m tn A few chronic pain patients have been prescribed Marinol for pain and attest that it is very effective for pain. I have heard it is very psychoactive and the prescription has strict instructions to NOT DRIVE. LOL, unlike opioids as once you are tolerant you can drive just as well as anyone else not on opioid therapy.
Avatar m tn I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I am in Athens, GA; does anyone know of a doctor willing to prescribe this medicine for pain (when you have not been diagnosed with a cancer...yet?
Avatar m tn 5 mg (lowest-dose) marinol per day to stay out of pain. Medicare and Humana will not cover marinol for pain or BP since manufacturers have not submitted these applications to the FDA. In addition, dosage and timing are big problems... Doctors do not understand that (1) the only available form - refrigerated gel tabs - do not take effect until 2.5 hours and (2) the effects only last for another 3 hours.
Avatar m tn I have pain in both of my knees and have had a cortazone shot in my arm for pain over the last year. I continue to here that Marinol can relief pain in that manner. I do not want to smoke marijuana. I read comments from others in Las Vegas where I live they found doctors who precribe Marinol. Can you provide me the name or locations of these doctors. I tried to use my main doctor and a urologist but no luck for they are not comforable in precribing it.
1162446 tn?1262804903 melissakay - yes, medical marijuana is available in pill form by the name of Marinol. It contains THC which is the active ingredient of the marijuana plant. Some people swear it only works for pain and/or nausea control when smoked and won't use the legal Marinol for that reason. I'll admit I tried smoking it myself years ago when I was vomiting several times a day from the worst bowel obstruction I've ever had. (Lost a couple feet of colon from that event.
485259 tn?1519047026 New research for neuropathic pain. This video interview with Dr. Allan Basbaum discusses the possibility of replacing damaged Gabba cells with new functioning ones, thus virtually eliminating neuropathic pain. This video also provides a good explanation of the different types of pain: acute/chronic/inflammatory/ and neuropathic as well as Trigeminal Neuralgia. Hopeful and informative. http://www.facingfacialpain.org/index.php?

Neuronal dysfunction is a prerequisite of neuropathic pain, but it is unclear how the degree of structural and functional neuronal impairment is linked to the intensity of neuropathic pain. What does this study add?
Avatar f tn They are hard to find but typically the doctor you would visit to get your MMJ license renewed would prescribe the opioids or refer you to another doctor that is MMJ Friendly. Another option is for you to ask the doctor for a prescription for Marinol...it is synthetic THC. I should mention that when my mother was dying from cancer, she said that the Marinol wasn't helping her eat, it was only the real marijuana that helped but things may be different for you. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Hi martint1955, First, I want to welcome you to the PM (Pain Management) Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues. I'm sorry that you are having trouble finding a Doctor to prescribe what you think you need for your pain. From everything that I've read on the patch it is the very same medication that Suboxone is.

Avatar m tn Marinol is just pharmaceutical MJ, and docs cannot prescribe it for w/ds. I agree with the others, ride it out. Anything you're feeling won't harm you....just just have to get through it. Wanting to turn to another drug to ease the w/ds from the first drug is how people stay stuck on the merry-go-round.
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone give me any views on carbamazepine for pain please?
Avatar f tn I've read about some people diagnosed with ADD taking marinol as a form of medication. I was wondering what effects it would have when taken with adderall, or as a replacement for other meds. What sort of side effects, and/or lack of side effects to make other meds more effective.
163305 tn?1333668571 There's a form of marijuana in pill form... it's called MARINOL (Dronabinol). I was put on it when I lost 40lbs as a side-effect of taking another medication. The side-effect of MARINOL, is that it gives you the munchies and MAKES you want to eat. Gained the weight back slowly, and stopped taking it. Makes me wonder why they went all-out, and went the actual marijuana route, instead of trying MARINOL first.
Avatar f tn -) There are many options out there for pain relief but you must find the cause of the pain or treatment will fail. So if you took Baclofen thinking it's muscle spasms but it's actually neuropathic pain then you will get no relief. Take Care, Karry.
