Common Questions and Answers about Marinol and thc

marinol

Avatar m tn Medicare coverage depends on doctor's DIAGNOSIS which must be "cachexia related to cancer" along with dose not exceeding FDA label maximum for the diagnosis. I do not know the FDA rules. The "alternative" is just dronabinol, the generic name of marinol. Marinol is synthetic THC, an oil/liquid at room temp, but provided as gel tabs which must be kept refrigerated. Marinol is NOT the CBD discussed on TV for kids.
Avatar m tn Marinol is legal in the US and is available by prescription. It is not real marijuana but man-made or synthetic THC. THC is one of the psychoactive components in marijuana; however real marijuana has other chemical componds that Marinol does not such as CBD (cannabinoid) that isn't very psychoactive but helps significantly reduce inflammation, relaxes muscles, and relieves pain. Marinol is typically prescribed to cancer patients to help with the pain, nausea, and to increase appetite.
Avatar f tn I'm not dx with ms, but have other conditions where mmj ,not marinol, helps me greatly. mmj also helps me with the weird sx I've been having since Jan '09. Marinol is synthetic tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) one of many compounds found in the in the cannabis plant. I hope this helps. The Rest Here: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/115748.
Avatar m tn I have been treated for Chronic pain post Cancers and therapies, and I am very tolerant to any Opiates. I would like to try using Marinol (synthetic THC) for pain; it helped my pain as well as my nausea when I went through my Stem-cell Transplant. I am in Athens, GA; does anyone know of a doctor willing to prescribe this medicine for pain (when you have not been diagnosed with a cancer...yet?
Avatar f tn Marinol is THC or "Medical" Marijuana. People with ADHD who use it are self medicating and (possibly) avoiding the issue of treating the real problem. I am sure that it makes them feel better. And there are probably "shops" out there that will "prescribe" it for you. As far as I know, no legit psychologist or psychiatrist would do so.
Avatar f tn They are hard to find but typically the doctor you would visit to get your MMJ license renewed would prescribe the opioids or refer you to another doctor that is MMJ Friendly. Another option is for you to ask the doctor for a prescription for Marinol...it is synthetic THC. I should mention that when my mother was dying from cancer, she said that the Marinol wasn't helping her eat, it was only the real marijuana that helped but things may be different for you. Good luck.
1162446 tn?1262804903 melissakay - yes, medical marijuana is available in pill form by the name of Marinol. It contains THC which is the active ingredient of the marijuana plant. Some people swear it only works for pain and/or nausea control when smoked and won't use the legal Marinol for that reason. I'll admit I tried smoking it myself years ago when I was vomiting several times a day from the worst bowel obstruction I've ever had. (Lost a couple feet of colon from that event.
Avatar f tn Her kids have issues all because smoking weed is natural and it could have been avoided!)Second google THC used during pregnancy and there are countless studies saying that it can be harmful to your developing baby and there are lists of side effects from it. Just because someone else smoked, drank, did drugs, etc during pregnancy and their baby was fine do you really want to risk your baby because someone who is not a doctor says so?
461838 tn?1255790216 I could never have got thru cancer tx without it and it sure has helped with Hep C. I use marijuana and ativan as needed and that has got me thru 45 weeks so far! Good luck to your friend. Has she contacted the Lance Armstrong Foundation? (laf.org). They are a great source of information and support.
Avatar m tn My dad takes oxycodone 15mg/ oxycontin 20mg/ marinol 2.5mg/ and ibuprofen 220mg Marinol is synthetic marijuana and it is doing wonders for his back pain. But if this is the case then shouldn't he theoretically be able to go off of the oxy's? I am so confused. Doctors don't tell me about liver or kidney protection and that is one of my first concerns.
Avatar m tn It would be great if i didnt have to use marijuana and break the law, and could legaly use marinol and feel normal.
Avatar m tn I have liver cirrhosis and when I became ill, my doctor prescribed Marinol for weight gain. I had lost 85 lbs and gained 30 pounds with this treatment. My doctor discontinued the Marinol and my weight decreased. I am 6'2" tall and am considering smoking marijuana to achieve the weight gain I am comfortable with. Will this method injure my liver further or have no real effects to it?
Avatar m tn I have smoked with them but I do not want to smoke anymore or to become certified for the smell around the house with kids and on my clothing. It works and do relieve my pain. I am still trying to do sports and those knees of mine just pain along with the shoulder. I looking for a doctor in Las Vegas to write me a precription just to make a comparison. I am not a young person who wants to be just high. Medical marijuana is growing in population and I just read about a new lotion.
Avatar m tn Marinol is just pharmaceutical MJ, and docs cannot prescribe it for w/ds. I agree with the others, ride it out. Anything you're feeling won't harm you....just just have to get through it. Wanting to turn to another drug to ease the w/ds from the first drug is how people stay stuck on the merry-go-round.
Avatar m tn due to the fact i have a drug test next week for work and dont know if i can use a blocker or some product to remove the thc from my system and or if i need to use something like that? may or does anyone know anything about this or how i can remove the thc out within a week?
163305 tn?1333668571 Makes me wonder why they went all-out, and went the actual marijuana route, instead of trying MARINOL first. It's available in pills/capsules, so I'm sure it could be crushed up and put in a spoon of peanut butter or something the kid would be happy to ingest.
560501 tn?1383612740 I'd be willing to try it. I am one of those people who do use marijuana medicinally, although my state does not yet participate. It does help with MS symptoms, particularly the spacisity. The big plus about it is that it reduces the amount of narcotics that I have to use to help reduce the pain from MS and degenerative disk disease. The drawback to marijuana use, at least for me, is that I do not like the so-called euphoria. Go figure, I would be one of the weird ones.
Avatar f tn Hi folks...I was researching taking CBD oil (non THC) for sleep and anxiety and was wondering if anyone knew if there was a negative impact on retina. I am 43, eat well, do not smoke or drink or use drugs. I had a retinal detachment 18 months ago...just wanted to eliminate CBD oil if there was any known negative correlation with its use and the retina. Hope this makes sense.
1353720 tn?1414503124 s Sativa, which has a higher concentration of THC, then there is Hybrid which is a mix of both THC and CBD, and then there is Indica which has a higher concentration of CBD. There a multiple studies out there that have proved such that Cannabis Indica may possibly be used as an alternative anti-psychotic. http://www.******************.org/new/detail.asp?
Avatar f tn Hi there, I have IBS, I also have cardiomyopathy and pulmonary hypertension. I get severe pain in my abdomen. It is beyond any other pain besides the worst migraine I've ever had. The pain is so bad I usually end up pouring sweat and putting as much pressure on my gut as possible until it passes. I use guided meditation sometimes and that helps a lot. My Dr. has run through all of the standard medications, and many are not available to me because of the cardiac problems.
Avatar n tn i think you're safe. No one checks THC levels on newborns either..baby will be fine I'm sure.
Avatar m tn Also I am not sure if it would harm my liver in any way or interfer with the interferon and riba and the trial drug. There seems to be a difference of opinion on what marijuana may or may not do to the liver.
Avatar n tn ve had hundreds of different prescriptions and treatments over the last 17 years and nothing but a massage, hot tub, and Marijuana help ease my non-stop pain. Law enforcement people have told me to get a doctor to prescribe me Marinol and I'm having trouble finding one who will....I hurt, I hurt, I hurt.
Avatar f tn Is Marinol pills good to use in kids who have seizures from Chiari malformation type 1
