I try to tell them this is more than fainting spells, but they have never seen it happen, so they say she is just fainting. I captured it on video a few days ago to show the neurologist. She is also bipolar and on medication for that. It looks like seizures to me, but i'm not a doctor. What could this be????
I don't faint very often anymore, but my daughter still faints multiple times each week. She also has a fear of fainting in some situations. I don't really have any "fainting phobias" though, so it might be a normal fear for those who faint often.
Hi marie, I have been on antidepressants for a long time and I do know thAt you should always report your side effects to the doctor. He can help you decide if they are worth taking that medicine or you need to switch to another. There are quite a few different medications for depression now with few side effects. Sometimes smaller side effects like dizziness will go away after your body becomes accustomed to the med.

Sorry if I was unclear, I was not suggesting that you try to grab a video camera when you are fainting. A "video EEG" is a type of test/observation that is done inpatient in the hospital, over the course of several days, sometimes longer. During that time you are on a special floor of the hospital called an epilepsy monitoring unit where the rooms are set up specifically for this testing.
One morning (granted I had been partying/drinking HARD the night before) I woke up and was completely normal -- not even hung over -- I was playing some video games and then i felt it -- a small sharp pain in the side of my head... and then I instantly knew something was wrong, I became very scared/anxious, and VERY confused...
I started walking around my roomates room and not even talking to her -- very scared / confused -- so she took me to the balcony for some fresh air...
My 14 year old daughter has been having fainting spells for about a year now. In October, she was diagnosed with Epilepsy due to an EEG that showed slowing in the left temporal lobe. This was confirmed in December by another doctor. She was on Keppra and then was added Trileptal but kept having spells. So, the docs put her in the hospital for 5 days and weaned her off the medication while on video EEG. She had one episode but it didn't record as seizure so they decided it was cardiac.
We're not sure what's happening to our son. He's 2 years old. Since he turned 1, he's been getting febrile seizures, he had 4 in 2 days the first time and spent 3 days in hospital. They said he had complex febrile seizures. Since then he's had maybe 8 more seizures and 2 of which didn't involve a fever at all. One time his day-care found him lying on the playground, limp. He's had normal EEG, MRI, EKGs and Chest x-rays.

Then she started fainting up to 20 x a day and we went to ER on a Friday night. At this point the cough from the flu was very severe. They kept her overnight and gave albuterol to help with the coughing.
The fainting continued so she had a 24 hr video EEG and saw pediatric neurologist. After 24 hrs and multiple episodes walking, in bed, etc. they determined that her brain and cardiac rhythms were all normal and diagnosed her with psychogenic fainting/seizures.
