Management of concussion and post-concussion syndrome

Common Questions and Answers about Management of concussion and post-concussion syndrome

concussion

Avatar n tn I have had patients with this condition. However, there is no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome. Management usually is directed at individual symptoms. This is why it is recommended that you have regular follow-ups for proper management of your symptoms. Take care and best regards.
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar n tn My 13yo is 1year post concussion still with all the symptoms you described and not in school. AND has a cyst on her pituitary gland. She'll be doing more blood work and seeing a neurosurgeon. Do they think your tumor is related to the concussion? Is there a connection to the symptoms? Just read that the symptoms are similar to those of a concussion. thanks.
Avatar m tn Hi, How are you? It is possible to have post-concussion syndrome for months and even years after the incident. This condition is a complex disorder in which a combination of post-concussion symptoms like headaches, tinnitus and dizziness are experienced. There are no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome but treatment for the individual symptoms you experience is made by your doctor. Regular follow-up with your doctor is highly recommended. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn You have been to your shares of doctors I guess and there is no point running around which I did. Most of them has no clue about Post Concussion Syndrome and in fact baffled when I report my symptoms and now scared to see me too. I agree with ggreg about consultation in University setting and with brain/head injury there is no cure but only degrees of recovery. Each brain injury is unique and try to get some one who can listen to you and may be a concussion specialist if you can.
Avatar n tn Nausea is one of the common symptoms of Post Concussion Syndrome. I hit my head and had mild traumatic brain injury and then followed PCS. I have several other symptoms too (vertigo, fatigue, head pressure etc.,) and all related to the concussion. I too force myself to eat when I hit with nausea and it happens very often. I am surprised your Neurologist didn't suggest any drugs which in a way is good. Elavil (low dosage - 10 mg/day) helped some people with Nausea, sleep etc.
Avatar m tn I had an accident on June 12 and after a month and a half of complete hell am finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Still dizzy and off balance sometimes but overall the symtoms are nothing like what they were three weeks ago.
Avatar m tn My doctor said the same thing, it was do to the concussion and that I would be fine. I read in one of your post that your daughter was said to have Post-Concussion Syndrome after a head injury. I do not know how long ago that was but if you looked up what the doctor was talking about like I do when my kids health is involved. You might of seen that the syndrome can sometimes last over a year in some cases. As for epilepsy, I have it.
Avatar f tn my symptoms are not getting better, meaning my speech, gait, dizziness ect. Memory is bad, and getting worse. I heard you can recover from post concussion syndrome and as time goes by you get better, but I keep getting worse. I dont even want to go out of the house anymore, I used to be a social butterfly. I hope you can at least lead me in some direction.
Avatar m tn I have suffered from 2 concussions. My first one happened tubing behind a boat in summer 2011. Fell off the tube and immediately felt dizzy, almost as if it took me a few seconds to regain myself. I had never felt that feeling before, but assumed the jolt my head took when it hit the water that I had suffered a concussion. I didn't begin to feel that "pressure headache" until a couple of hours later that afternoon.
Avatar f tn Has anyone heard of post concussive syndrome happening even from a mild concussion?
Avatar n tn Post-concussive syndrome may involve a number of signs and symptoms including but not limited to headache, dizziness, fatigue, and memory difficulties. The "involuntary head jerking" your son has experienced may be related to cervical muscle (neck) spasm from the injury. This may be from a "whiplash" type injury (assuming any imaging of your son's neck were negative after the initial injury twp years ago).
Avatar f tn ( An unleashed dog unexpectedly ran into me and caused me to fall backwards, and the back of my head hit and bounced off of the ground. I did not lose consciousness. However, about 30minutes later I began to feel a headache develop. The headache stengthen over next few hours. I went to an urgent care facility and was sent for catscan at ER. ER Doctor found no issues in catscan and diagnosed it as concussion.
Avatar m tn Symptoms include altered consciousness, confusion, spaced out, nausea, and seeing flashes of light. Post concussion syndrome is a set of neuropsychological disorders including thinking, behavioral, and emotional disorders caused by traumatic brain injury or concussion. Post concussion syndrome can result from actual physical damage or injury to the brain and can become torn or sheared, crushed or displaced, can swell, bleed and shut down.
Avatar m tn 4 days later due to the pressure and pain in my head shea dignosed I have Post Concussion Syndrome. I had a ct scan and it came back clear. I now have continious pressure in my eyes and in my nasal area. My Dr. did nto prescribe or recommend anything. I had taken an over the counter medication and it eased the pressure its back with a vengence.. Please help, is there anything I am able to take or be suggested to take by presciption?
Avatar m tn I spoke to my GP again and was given a leaflet on post concussion syndrome. I was also sent to the local hospital for a CT scan which showed no abnormalities. The symptoms have been very up and down. The dizziness and nausea have mostly passed and the main thing I am struggling with now is fatigue.
Avatar f tn Light sensitivity, trouble focusing at near, difficulty concentrating, blurred vision are part of the post concussion syndrome. Not every person has every symptom and not every clears at the same rate. If you need glasses for distance generally you are myopic or nearsighted. That is not due to concussion. You should be seen by an Eye MD ophthalmologist for a medical eye exam.
Avatar f tn Usually, such headaches and dizziness may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. In addition, patient may experience either migraine type or tension type headache. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain abnormalities after that injury.
Avatar f tn I have taken many MRIs (with and without contrast) after my mild Traumatic Brain Injury and diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome. Faced no problems with contrast. Very rarely I heard people cannot tolerate the contrast. Some labs do a Creatine (?) test before giving contrast. You can ask your lab about that. I have been suffering with Post Concussion Syndrome for 2+ years now. Headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue etc., and my symptoms got worse only after 5 weeks.
Avatar n tn https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/post-concussion-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20353352 Make sure to tell the doctor about all of the workouts you're doing, to make sure you're not perpetuating the problem by doing a specific exercise. Hope you start to improve!
4066053 tn?1353717145 It is more dependent of the force of injury and the level of brain involved. However yes, the base of the skull is most sensitive and a hit in this area can cause more trauma than in other areas. Also a direct impact on the top of the head can be really injurious. Healing from concussion is a very unpredictable. A small injury may take time to heal where as a bigger injury may heal faster. Take care!
Avatar m tn injury was 3 weeks ago,,,was just wondering if this post cooncussion syndrome is normal , and the symptoms ,are normal 3 weeks later,, thank youu for your respond
