1027524 tn?1259033777 delivery, they ran a few tests and found out i have a UTI. they prescibed me Macrobid (a lot of other drugs used to treat them contain Sulfa & i'm highly allergic) well here's the thing. i looked some stuff up and i found this link, along w/ many others http://www.aboutlawsuits.com/birth-defects-linked-to-antibiotics-6733/ ^ i guess Macrobid is linked to birth defects. should i ask for a different med? is there any way to get rid of a UTI w/out medication? (maybe a lot of water?
Avatar f tn Does the antibiotic macrobid used to treat uti's decrease the effectiveness of birth control? Because I'm on the pill and I shouldn't get my period for another week and I've been bleeding.. This makes me nervous because while taking macrobid I had sex without a condom, he pulled out, but I know that's not always a safe alternative either. I know that during early pregnancy bleeding isn't uncommon. I'm scared out of my mind..
Avatar f tn Steroids at high doses are used to expedite recovery. Many times patients will return to normal self but sometimes patients will be left with permanent symptoms. Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
Avatar n tn Hi, Nitrofurantoin is the generic name of Macrobid and is used to treat urinary tract infections. It is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby, unless it is used during the last 2 to 4 weeks of pregnancy. You can first take the antibiotics until the prescribed period then take the pregnancy test after. It is important to finish the course of antibiotics even if symptoms improve before the infection is completely cleared. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Was in the ER weekend before last. Diagnosed me with a UTI, and put me on Macrobid 100mg BID. Got a call yesterday, they said my culture reads that the bacteria in my urine is resistant to Macrobid. So apparently they didn't do a Culture and Sensitivity test when I was in the ER like they should have. I had to pay $50 for the Macrobid that I took, that didn't and wouldn't do diddly-squat for my "UTI". I think I was misdiagnosed and mistrated with the Macrobid.
666089 tn?1260520261 i was just given macrobid by my doctor to treat a bladder infection. i know that he wouldnt give me something that would be harmful, and not treating it would be more harmful then taking medications .. i would just like to hear if anyone eles has taken this medication for a uti and if they had any side effects with it? i tryed to look for infromation on the net about it but there were to many mixed reviews on this... or is there any other safer drugs you've take for uti's?
551604 tn?1333983135 But its not safe for baby to let the infection go, it can cause preterm labour and possible get to the baby. The macrobid is for a uti but I was told when I had to take the bactrium that it is a different type of antibiotic for a bacteriol ( i cant spell sorry) infection, not a uti that you can more commonly get durring preg in your lady parts. So you might want to ask, thats why they told me it had to be the bactrium and not the macrobid that time.
9137321 tn?1402710290 I've never had a uti. I'm 27 and this is my first one they put me on macrobid. It seems I'm using the bathroom every 30 minutes. Before I went to doc to see what was wrong I wasn't peeing like this...has anyone has this before? Did macrobid make you pee a lot and tired??
Avatar f tn Fasciculation were correlated with body weight and height and to the anxiety levels, regular strenuous exercise. Attention deficit disorder or drugs used to treat it and a related disorder may be a contributing factor. Genetic and environmental factors also contribute. BFS is not life threatening, not disabling, though the most severe forms of peripheral nerve hyper excitability may be persistent enough to create some degree of disability.
Avatar f tn s this pregnancy, therefore I have been put on macrobid for the remaining of my pregnancy. I have to take 1 every night until I deliver. Started @32 weeks am now 35+5. No problems from it yet. I haven't had any syptoms of uti so I would never known if it weren't for the urine soles at Dr. Office.
Avatar f tn Symtoms: whole body pins/needles and burning from scalp, face throughout entire body to the toes. Began 1 1/2 yrs. ago as tingling in my fingers. Then it progressed and I had muscle cramps and twitches all over. I feel like if you stuck my hand into a Christmas tree, it would light up. I get electrical zaps ALL over. Now I have carpul tunnel syndrome. My skin hurts to be touched most of the time. I also get skin sensations of heat and sweating but I'm not sweating.
Avatar f tn Are you pregnant? Macrobid is pregnancy category B--- used in pregnancy. Cipro, the gold standard is pregnancy category C--- not the best choice for someone who is pregnant. Amoxicillin isn't the best choice at all for a UTI based on the common bacteria that causes UTI's. Every infection is caused by a specific strain of bacteria. Some antibiotics are going to work better on different strains of bacteria.
Avatar n tn I am allergic to the cillins (anaphylaxis), and have had a horrible reaction to quinones. Every time I thought about putting that little Macrobid in my mouth, I would start to panic. The following day, without the Macrobid, my symptoms were much improved. The day after that - even better. Thinking I'd dodged the bullet - I put the antibiotics in my kitchen cabinet to hopefully never be used.
Avatar f tn Ever since I have requested macrobid as the others still have failed to work. Now it appears as if macrobid no longer works. Also, for two years I have had blood in my urine (even when I don't have a UTI). I was also diagnosed (when this first recurrent infection occurred) with interstitial cystitis (sp?), but after seeing a new urologist last fall and undergoing a procedure to look inside my bladder, he told me I did not and took me off of Elmiron.
1308690 tn?1273696411 Flagyl is normally used to treat BV and Macrobid is normally used to treat bladder infections and UTIs and fluconazole is used to treat yeast infections commonly known as oral diflucan I understand your pain I feel as though I end up with one every month I've even went as far to brew peppermint tea and make a nice douche with that it helps with the smell the celestial seasons work best one bag peppermint and one bag chamomile nice combination plus also use providine iodine to make your own
Avatar n tn I have a question. Are drugs in the benzo family ever used to treat seizures? As in Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ativan, Restoril, etc? I have simple partial seizures and was on xanax on an "as needed" basis to control some nervousness about going back to college. I was on it for about 2 months. I started realizing I got less of my sensory and motor seizures which have always been uncontrollable since I started getting them back in 2000.
Avatar f tn THE BLEEDING WILL COME OUT IN MY URINE I WANT TO KNOW WILL THE BLEEDING STOP? I HAVE BEEN TO SEE MY DOCTOR SHE SAID IT IS FROM HAVING A UTI AND COMPLETING THE MACROBID TREATMENT. I JUST NEED MORE OPINIONS!
Avatar f tn I have used it to treat a prroblem with retention. It is better to cath than to have residual urine. I used to end up hospitalized with kidney infections 3 to 4 times a year. Now that I self cath, I stilll get some. Most of the t5imes they can treat it with oral Cipro 500 mg 2 @day. It is improtant to use clean tecchniques while doing a self cath. I does not have to be sterile but clean.
Avatar f tn I was on a low dose antibiotic daily that seemed to be effective, but when my husband and I started seeing a fertility specialist I was told to switch to macrobid. My urologist made this switch but recommended I only take it when I get a UTI. While I was pregnant I didn't seem to have any issues, but I had a miscarriage 4 weeks ago.
Avatar f tn e,, The UTIs are probably contributing to a relapse and docs solution to the UTI is macrobid - aah, and then benadryl to try to quell the reaction to the macrobid! No wonder you are at your wits end. My suggestion is to look the doc dead in the eye and demand another antibiotic for the UTI. Tell he/she you are willing to take your chances on another med. How long does the numbness and loss of function last each time?
Avatar f tn Earlier this year after a bladder ultrasound I was diagnosed with irritable bladder syndrome. I had a trial of amitriptyline 10mg daily to treat the symptoms, but had side effects (weakness and drowsiness affecting my ability to work) even when quartering the tablet (2.5mg). Are there any other treatments my doctor can prescribe to treat this disorder?
Avatar f tn Uti or bladder infection. My doctor proscribed me macrobid. Terrified to take it, anyone else had to use this while pregnant, I'm only 8 weeks!
362119 tn?1223137936 ok girls.. i got the macrobid filled.. Im just going to take it. Im still nervous about it but, the infection is probably worse for the baby.
Avatar f tn Did anyone take macrobid for uti during third trimester?
Avatar f tn Are you taking macrobid for a uri? I think what is also very often the case with what appears to be spotting during treatment is that the uti in itself can cause what appears to be spotting or a period. https://drhouse.com/can-a-uti-cause-bleeding-like-a-period/ In those cases, it's an inflammatory response. And it gets better when the uti is healed and enough time passes for normalization. The antibiotics kill off bacteria causing the uti which then reduces inflammation.
1100598 tn?1413127426 He decided to treat me for a UTI based upon my symptoms and gave me a 3 day course of Macrobid. The symptoms cleared up and then returned within 2 days of finishing the medication. I noticed that the sediment looked purulent on the toilet paper but dried like chalk if I got it on my hands. Upon returning to my doctor, the urine dip was once again normal other than "Trace" WBC, so he sent it in for micoscopic evaluation, which has not come back yet.
