Macrobid urinary tract infections

Common Questions and Answers about Macrobid urinary tract infections

macrobid

493068 tn?1224765315 The condition occurs when the normally clean lower urinary tract is infected by bacteria and becomes inflamed. Urinary tract infections are very common. Most of the time, symptoms of a urinary tract infection disappear within 24 - 48 hours after treatment begins. However, if the condition occurs more than twice in 6 months, lasts longer than 2 weeks, or does not respond to usual treatment, it is considered chronic. The elderly are at increased risk for such infections.
Avatar f tn I have had dozens of urinary tract infections every year since I was seventeen (before I was ever even sexually active), and I've grown unable to really even notice them until they become quite bad. I never noticed myself feeling better when prescribed the macrobid any time during this year. I had a urine culture sent last week and I will be returning to my GP ASAP to see what the results of this were.
Avatar f tn Talk to your doctor about this immediately. My understanding is Macrobid has been known to cause problems when taken during late pregnancy: "If you get recurrent urinary tract infections or if the infection gets into your kidneys, your caregiver may recommend taking nitrofurantoin (trade name Macrodantin or Macrobid) for the rest of your pregnancy to prevent another infection.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, some people are just prone to getting urinary tract infections. Have you spoken to your doctor about what you can do to help prevent them. Peeing after sex and cranberry juice / supplements are good preventative measures.. but they don't seem to be doing the trick for you. It sounds like you notice a pattern of when they pop up, so for your honeymoon, maybe you can make sure you don't have sex a day or two beforehand and keep the vaginal sex to one time that night.

Avatar f tn I HAVE NAUSIA ALOT AND PAIN IN MY BACK AND THEN THERE IS THE UNCONTROLLABLE URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS. I HAVE BEEN TAKING MACROBID AND SOME ANTIBIOTIC BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK.
Avatar m tn I made an appointment with a uroligist and after multiple test was deemed healthy in regard to my urinary tract. He put me on prophalactic macrobid. I still feel like I have a UTI off and on, but not always. The fever remains. I feel well for the most part...I do get tired more easily than I should. I have searched the web trying to find an answer. I have also noticed that when I feel a lot of anxiety (which thankfully isn't often) I have the sensation of having icy hot on my arms.
Avatar n tn Hi, Nitrofurantoin is the generic name of Macrobid and is used to treat urinary tract infections. It is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby, unless it is used during the last 2 to 4 weeks of pregnancy. You can first take the antibiotics until the prescribed period then take the pregnancy test after. It is important to finish the course of antibiotics even if symptoms improve before the infection is completely cleared. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar f tn In females the common cause for urgency and frequency is most commonly attributed to urinary tract infections, but pain in the back and side could be due pelvic inflammatory disease. Pelvic inflammatory disease usually if left untreated can lead to tubal block, formation of adhesions etc. Do you have any discharge or pain during intercourse? I would suggest that you get a urine analysis with culture , STD panel done and visit a gynaecologist. Also take a second opinion of a urologist.
Avatar f tn How do you tell the difference between a urinary tract infection and yeast infectiy?
Avatar m tn My girlfriends doctor suggested that she take Macrobid in order to clear up her urinary tract infection. If by some CRAZY chance she did receive an std that causes urinary tracts infection, would macrobid clear that up as well?? I know I am being ridiculous right now but just thought I would ask. This will be my last thread bc I know this is a bit eccentric. Thanks so much for your help. God Bless!
Avatar f tn Hi, I understand how hard this has been for you. Urinary tract infections are one of the more complex conditions as not all them may present in a clear cut ,textbook type of manifestation. In your case, it sounds like a UTI but the thing about your case is that it has been recurrent despite the medications. You have had several scans done. Were there anything in the scans which showed some abnormalities or structural involvement?
Avatar n tn Lemon and cranberry juice will help with urinary tract infections as a preventative in susceptible individuals but will not cure an active infection. Your dog's urine should really be checked for infection with a urinalysis. Please bring a fresh urine sample to your vet for analysis. You may not even have to bring your dog in for an exam if the urine is positive for a simple urinary tract infection (an infection without crystals). The vet can simply give appropriate antibiotics.
Avatar n tn itchiness is usually yeast, but the burning could be a urinary tract infection. is the burning internal or external???
Avatar f tn I went to my gyn I had a uti he gave me meds macrobid and said it will also help my throat .  But I don't see how plus I don't feel comfortable taking meds while I'm pregnant Is there anything I can do without meds ?for UTI and Sore Throat if not did anybody take MACROBID while pregnant ?
Avatar m tn Two months ago I was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection after going to the doctor for bladder pain when urinating. I was prescribed macrobid which cleared up the symptoms within a week. Since then I have been ejaculating less than half the amount I usually do, even if I abstain for 3 or 4 days. Additionally, my semen appears to be a lot more clumpy. It doesn't seem/feel like everything is *coming* out. What could have caused this change? What can I do to fix it?
Avatar m tn I wonder if there is such a thing as a hypersensitive urinary tract? If so, I have it big time! Every time this is like this, it makes me feel bad all over. I guess when the prostate is irritated, being a gland, it can affect how you feel all over. I hope I can get over this. I am still drinking lots of water. My questions are is there such a thing as a hypersensitive urinary tract and prostate? And 2. What can be done to improve this. A certain vitamin or mineral? Saw Palmetto?
565147 tn?1218252591 Hi, “infections of the urinary tract are the second most common type of infection in the body. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) account for about 8.3 million doctor visits each year.* Women are especially prone to UTIs for reasons that are not yet well understood. One woman in five develops a UTI during her lifetime. UTIs in men are not as common as in women but can be very serious when they do occur. Normally, urine is sterile.
