Macrobid or cipro

Common Questions and Answers about Macrobid or cipro

macrobid

Avatar n tn Normally with the use of Cipro I would be on the mend by the end of 3 days. Is there any merit in taking both meds or should I or even can I just switch back to Cipro mid treatment.
Avatar f tn I had unprotected sex with a new partner...and a week or so later i noticed pelvic pain. Made an appt and get tested for stds (12 days after unprotected sex). The doc found a uti and rx'd macrobid. Std tests came back negative. Macrobid didn't help and i developed burning with urination...doc gave me cipro. After cipro burning and pelvic pain was worse, so i went to the er. They found cervicitis and swabbed the pus for a std test and rx'd doxycycline for 2 weeks.
493068 tn?1224765315 I was put on Macrobid for 1 year in August after finishing 10 days of Cipro. September 3+ bacteria on Cipro again 10 days then October 29 bacteria 3+ again just completed 10 days of Levaquin. I only had C&S back in August and none since. Is there a better long term med better than Macrobid?. I am allergic to sulfur. I have Sjogren's and urinary stricture. It is very painful most days and the frequency is hard to deal with. I appreciate any help?? Thanks so much!
Avatar m tn late August felt a sense of stinging at end of penis, then burning when urination. NP did urine test (found bacteria) and 7 days of macrobid....bacteria was gone but week later, still symptoms and after another urine test, it came back clean....but still "burning sensation" within penis. So, NP gave me 2 weeks of bactrim....which did nothing. Went to urologist who did tests on urine, PSA and prostate check...all came back fine. He put me on a month of cipro 500mg.
Avatar f tn Most of my kidney infections were treated with Cipro (antibiotic). I have been on Macrobid as well, it is a milder form of antibiotic. The problem with antibiotics is that it kills of the needed bacteria in the bowel, allowing yeast to thrive. Yeast does well in moist environments. Each time that I have been treated with antibiotics, I have ended up with yeast infections of the penis/glans/foreskin, bowel and oral trush. Yeast can be very difficult to get under control.
Avatar f tn Are you pregnant? Macrobid is pregnancy category B--- used in pregnancy. Cipro, the gold standard is pregnancy category C--- not the best choice for someone who is pregnant. Amoxicillin isn't the best choice at all for a UTI based on the common bacteria that causes UTI's. Every infection is caused by a specific strain of bacteria. Some antibiotics are going to work better on different strains of bacteria.
Avatar f tn went to hospital out clinic this morning and very nice MD (they still make them) and he said pus on cells and put me on Cipro and call Friday if not better. Thanks for enouragement guys, you know I hate giving in and going to the docs!
Avatar m tn Hello - Feb 16 - woke up with burning sensation inside penis, prescribed 7 day macrobid for suspected UTI, week later urine and urine culture came back normal. Put on 10 day Cipro suspected prostatitis, PSA, DRE and Trans Rectal Ultrasound all normal. Went to ER a few days later with pain in the penile shaft and glans. Examined by ER doctor and put on 10 days cipro and 1 dose cefixime. Went back to doctor, put me on 21 days sulfatrim for suspected Epidimitis-ochitis and ordered US.
Avatar f tn I went to GP, he prescribed me a bunch of antibiotics (Cipro, Bactrim, Macrobid), none of them work. Fast forward, went to see my GYN, she did a urethral swab and urine culture. My right part of urethra feels tender per GYN. The swab for STD/STI were negative. However, my urine came back positive for E.Coli. So I was prescribed Cipro, but I had an allergic reaction to it. So now I am on Keflex 4x a day for 7 days. Today is 2nd day, I still feel the pain.
Avatar f tn I have some recurring urological problems (prostatitis/epididymitis) and in the past have been prescribed Cipro. I have an appointment with the urologist coming up and am sure I will need another course of Cipro. I hate taking that stuff. Everytime I take it, I feel extremely tired. It is almost to the point that I can't work. Usually better after a week on the meds. Anybody else have that reaction? I guess it is a necessary evil because the urolological problems always get better.
Avatar f tn Coli and entercoccus. I was put on Macrobid for 5 days didn’t help at all, was then switched to Cipro for 5 days. After 24hrs on Cipro all my symptoms went away. One week later my symptoms of a UTI retuned. Back to the doctors I went culture this time showed bacteria count less then 10,000. My doctor felt the infection was gone but I could be having bladder spasms. He give me spasm medication and referred me to a urologist. Fast forward another week still having UTI symptoms.
Avatar f tn I am allergic to PCN and Cipro and have been given Nitrofurantoin for 7 days. I am very afraid to take it. Does anyone have any experiences with it or can recommend other meds to take? Thank you for any suggestions!
Avatar f tn Hi wondering if anyone can help me please. A month ago I started to have cramping pain in lower abdomen and frequent urination . My doctor put me on macrobid but that didn't help . Then put me on cipro which didn't help either . The pain would come and go with lower back pain as well and getting up to urinate and bladder pressure all the time . After that my urine culture came back positive with group b strep . I'm not pregnant . My doctor gave me 7 days of penicillin .
Avatar f tn Mine went away after 3 or 4 days. When I was hospitalized with a kidney infection I had cipro through an IV for 4 days and was on Zofran round the clock (every 4 hours) because it made me sick the entire time.
Avatar n tn There are NO UROGYNOs in Houston. What are the doctors missing? I have had cipro, macrobid, doxycyline, and now on prevacid.. HELP !!! I am 62 and otherwise healthy...
Avatar f tn In 2017 had some frequency and pressure for a few weeks and then episode of gross hematuria. Put on Cipro. Symptoms cleared right up. Culture was not done. Saw urologist. Cysto and CT w/o contrast done. Negative. Over the 2.5 years had irritative symptoms on and off with microscopic blood. Cultures negative. Urologist said IC. 5 months ago had a couple days of slight burning then episode of gross hematuria. Put on Cipro but culture came back negative.
Avatar f tn I also feel a twinge pain in my lower right abdomen after I pee. I don’t feel burning pain, no cloudy or smelly urine and no blood. Went to see my PCP and did a urine test and found white blood cells. So he prescribed me Cipro (stopped after 1 dose due to a reaction) and now on Bactrim (7/10 dose now). I feel like **** for the first three days and today feel more energy but the right side urethra urination pain is still here and feeling worse. Anyone experience this or have a clue what this is?
Avatar m tn I had UTI one and a hlf month back and was give cipro for 14 days....
Avatar f tn Came back negative but said i had a uti. Took macrobid and symptoms got worse...doc then gave me cipro. Synptoms got worse. Did a pelvic exam and found cervicitis. Tested me for stds again and came back negative. Since then i have been on 5 rounds of antibitoics and tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea 6 times...all negative. What are the chances that all of these are false negatives? 4 out of 6 tests i was on a round of antibiotics.
Avatar f tn The urologist heard my story and told me that I must have just injured myself and that the pain was unrelated. However, a week or 2 later, my frequent urination and irritation came back, and he put me on macrobid. This seemed to work a little for my urethral problems, but it worked A LOT for my testicle, which started to feel a lot better after weeks of pain. However, I finished the meds and still have many symptoms.
Avatar m tn Since then I had cramps in lower abdomen. I later found out that it was an UTI. I was given macrobid but it did not work. I was then given a long dosage of Cipro and I feel much better but the cramps are somewhat there. I believe I have pid. I tested negative for chlamydia and Gonnerrhea and all other stds.
Avatar f tn ve taken to get rid of the UTI is sulfamexazole, cipro (which seems to work the best), and the macrobid. But still as soon as I am off the antibiotic (the cipro or sulfamexazole) the UTI returns within a day. I am sorry you're going through this as well. It's very frustrating to not feel well...ever...and to have no solution. I have another appointment on Monday for them to test for protein or something like that. So I guess we'll see.
Avatar f tn I thought I had a bladder infection, as I had the burning related symptoms. I took Macrobid 7 days BID and the symptoms did not go away. When I've had a bladder infection in past years, the symptoms would go away within a couple days, so this was really different because I took the whole RX and symptoms remained. I then went to my GP and had a urine culture done and nothing grew; however, my doctor said to take Cipro 500 mg BID for 7 days. The burning stopped.
Avatar m tn Hello - I saw my GP about a month ago after experiencing burning after urination. He did a urine test suspecting UTI and put me on macrobid(antibiotic) while he waited for the results. A week passed and there was no relief. Went back to GP and he said the results of the urinalysis and urine culture were normal but I told him about that the pain had since intensified.
Avatar m tn I went to the ER and was given Macrobid, but that still did not work. I then was given Cipro last week, and I am still finishing up the medicine. The cramps are somewhat subsiding, and so is the lower back pain. I have been taking AZO Tablets an ibuprofen along with the Cipro The Dr does not suspect any of these symptoms to be related to a trich infection. I have been reading that trich can come back after treatment is this true?
Avatar n tn I was told today that a follow-up urine culture performed last week showed no growth but could be a false negative because of recent antibiotic use. I had finished the antibiotic (Cipro) 2 1/2 weeks before giving the urine specimen that was cultured. How can an antibiotic stopped this long ago affect the outcome of a urine culture? Because I am still having pain on urination, I was given another round of antibiotics to take (different antibiotic and suffering significant side effects).
