Common Questions and Answers about Macrobid and birth control effectiveness

macrobid

Avatar f tn Does the antibiotic macrobid used to treat uti's decrease the effectiveness of birth control? Because I'm on the pill and I shouldn't get my period for another week and I've been bleeding.. This makes me nervous because while taking macrobid I had sex without a condom, he pulled out, but I know that's not always a safe alternative either. I know that during early pregnancy bleeding isn't uncommon. I'm scared out of my mind..
Avatar f tn Macrobid does not affect the effectiveness of birth control pills. You continue to take your birth control through your whole cycle there shouldn't be a concern.
Avatar f tn I take the mini pill birth control and did not do any emergency contraceptive afterwards because I’m on birth control ,and the concerns kicked in about the antibiotics possibly affecting the mini pill birth control. Avatar m tn Hi, I was wondering if I can store my birth control pills in a pill finder (I have many other pills to take and doing it this way makes it much easier to keep track of what pills I've taken and when). I was recently told that removing the birth control from its bubble package with decrease the effectiveness, so it's really important that I know whether or not this is true. I have a pituitary adenoma and the pills are necessary to keep my periods regulated. Please help me! Thank you!
Avatar m tn Look up the birth control pill your girlfriend is on online and see what it says about how long it must be taken (consistently) to be fully effective. If the birth control has not had time to gather its full effectiveness, there is no guarantee your girlfriend was protected. Furthermore, even if it is one that requires shorter than a month, a missed pill or just taking the pill at varying times from day to day can add some small level of risk.
