Lyrica rash

Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica rash

lyrica

I hope that in time the nerves that were damaged by shingles will heal. Please note, however, Lyrica is filtered through the kidneys and in the beginning of usage of Lyrica I was on the near maximum allowed dosage of Lyrica and it resulted in near kidney shut down as reported to me by my Neptrologist (kidney specialist). It seems then that a managed dosage of Lyrica to match individual tolerance can help in the management of pain. It sure helps me with shingles pain management.
I was told by another MSer on a different forum that she had actually broken out in acne and a rash from Lyrica. They went away when she took a break from it. Lyrica actually does help me. I can tell because when I don't take it I really suffer. I have a feeling the rash is related to the sun. I get good morning sun exposure on weekends in the attempt to increase my vit D3 metabolism. I'm also involved in a megadose D3 experiment on PatientsLikeMe.
I had to pop in and see if any one else taking or that took Lyrica ever experienced rash... I've had a horrible rash that's scaly, red and will puss up, almost like a burn. I had it for a few days before I saw a doctor (I'm never without a rash, so I wasn't concerned at first) and she said it could be viral or it could be an allergic reaction to the Lyrica I started at the end of January.
I was just put on Lyrica, the doc thinks I might have Fibro...I have all the symptoms that go along with it...I have noticed though over the last week since I've been taking it that my anxiety has increased and it feels like my heart is beating faster....I have always been on Xanax for anxiety ( last 4 yrs. ) but I haven't had to use it as much until lately...or could this just be a symptom of Fibro since it's really flared up due to the cold weather?
hi I have tried neurontin up to 2700mg then broke out in a rash head to toe and my doctor switched me to lyrica and it has worked the best for my severe neuropathy pain. i have gained 20 lbs but I couldnt function if it wasnt for this drug. I am now on 225mg of lyrica twice a day though I find myself uping the dose every 6 months or so due to breakthrough pain it has been a great drug for me.
I have posted new pictures of my rash this week - at least, have posted the pictures that were modest in their presentation. They are on my photo page here - http://www.medhelp.org/user_photos/list/1995824 . I am in constant agony when I am awake. Nothing has helped. Not the clobetosol, not the Atarax, OTC meds... nothing. My entire body is burning and itching. The only place the rash has not traveled to at this poing is my face and my feet.
There are a few little 'pimple like' bumps on his head, but other than that, no rash yet. He is been taking VALTREX now for a week and now taking LYRICA for pain, but the Dr. said it would take weeks for the LYRICA to kick in...he has stabbing pain every 3-5 seconds with no pain meds and then with the pain meds, pain every 3 mintues instead...make it go away....
I have had this off and on for many years...right now it is on again. I can wake up with it and nothing seems to help except Lyrica on occasion. I have had biopsies of the skin and no results. When I lived in Southern California I went under a certain type of light box that helped the itching over a period of time and kept it at bay. Since I moved to Tennessee there are no light boxes in my area and no one seems to know how to help me.
is the shingles rash always the same like on your trunk or back? I had a rash over my front but it wasn't painful what do you use to diagnose shingles? is it the high WBC plus a distinctive rash and nerve pain?
I would get checked for lyme disease. It starts with a rash. The rash spreads and expands. Is the rash shaped like a bullseye with a clear center? It can cause all the symptoms you posted above.
Has anyone heard of pain like shingles with tingling, itching, numbness radiating from spine around the rib to under the arm but no rash? It started with just constant itchiness. Over the last year it has gone to the other symptoms and is starting to radiate on the other side of the same T5-8 vertibrae. I just had a contrast dye MRI on neck and upper back and the phone call that said all was normal but have not seen my neurologist yet.
my 11 year old son had a virus on Thanksgiving 5 days later he started itching from head to toe no rash no hives nothing. we started him on benadryl and calamine lotiong, not relief so the Doctor gave him allegra and cortisone, no relief. Then the dermatologist gave him a shot of kenalog, and prescription cortisone. still no relief after two emergency room visits they gave him hydroxine and blood workups for kidney, liver, and thyroid came back normal.
although slight problem with Mytrovalve not enough to worry about. Numbness, tingling and weakness on right side. Mylar type rash on nose and cheeks that was very noticable then only slightly noticable until get hot. Lots of pain and bloating in gut - "overworked" gall bladder removed and pain got worse. Colonoscopy-diverticulosis and two polyps(removed). Anemia and slightly elevated Mast Cells (?). Diagnosed: Menieres, Fibromyalgia, Parafoveal Telangiectasia.
I was having swelling in my legs and arms, tingling in my face, rash, tenderness in my breasts, worse headaches, increased anxiety, mood swings, and hostility. Chris took me off Gabapentin, and put me on Lyrica 75mg 2 times a day for 1 month. I have another appointment on Feb 2nd.
Ok... so I've been on mobic for a few years. Last few weeks, didn't seem like it was working. So went back to the dr... he changed my medicine back to relafen. I had taken this 5 years ago, when I was first diagnosed with OA & fibromyalgia. It worked then... but made me break out in this weird rash on my neck & cheeks. At least, that's what I thought was causing the rash at the time. I've since realized that no matter what meds the doctor puts me on, I keep this rash...
While I felt like it worked reasonably well, I had to take it in 6 smaller doses, because more than 300 mg at a time would make me dizzy. I immediately switched to 50 mg Lyrica 3 x/day. I thought the Lyrica worked reasonably well although in a short period of time I had to up my dosage to 100 mg 3x/day. I'm currently taking that + 300 mg gabapentin/day with not a lot of releif... I take it for TN, though, and that is notoriously resistant.
celiatic sprue, and arthritis. All of course resulting in depression and sleep disturbances. In addition to the sunburn rash I have on a daily basis to my chest, I have just recently been diagnosed with a skin disease known as granuloma annulare, cause unknown, but possibly related to a diabetic rash. I also have had a reoccurring out break of extreme itches from head to toe. I'm also experiencing nausea, along with tingling and burning sensations to my toes and fingers.
After a few days, a rash appears as a band or patch of raised dots on the side of the trunk or face. The rash develops into small, fluid-filled blisters which begin to dry out and crust over within several days. Apart from lyrica, take antihistaminics like Benadryl and use calamine lotion on the itchy areas. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
I'm not choking up blood anymore, so that's good. Last night, I also discovered a very painful rash on my trunk area, and I didn't know what it was. They noticed it as well, and I was started on an antiviral medication and some medications to treat the pain, as they believe that it's shingles. I was really hoping that it wasn't shingles. :( The medication that I'm on for the purpura rash should help the shingles to not be as bad, though. I hope that's true!
I however had a doctor prescribe Lyrica about a month ago and its really taken care of pain that radiates to my shoulder and elbow. Not this numbness/sensory pain issues has me wondering if I have a spinal compression issue still to deal with or is it Lyrica? Any ideas would be great. My pain Doc says to contact my surgeon because something is not right but I have about had my limit with the surgeon. That was my 3rd spinal fusion surgery in Sept.
Hello, I'm a regular athlete who just came down with the shingles for the second time in 15 years, this time I got the rash on my left arm, from the wrist up to my shoulder, rash following the nerve path, I sort of knew what it was and started taking 800 mg of Acyclovir four times a day (it was the weekend and wouldn't see a doctor until Monday) I had read about this, My brother in-law M.D.
Went to doctor, had CT scan at hospital, cam back OK, was given several shots for the pain, told possible shingles although I had no rash. Gave me meds for pain. Went to work Monday, by Wednesday, the same symptoms again, but only must stronger. Went to eye doctor and was told my eyes were both fine. Went back to my doctor who gave me some shots and more pain killers. Said to call in morning to see how pain was. Said the same.
Although i had only one small red spot, I experienced three days of extremely intense back and uterine pain prior to my doctor visit. On Tuesday, a rash, wrapping around my middrift ,appeared. The pain intensified to the point of no return. (I suffered nerve damage from a botched angiogram in July/09, so I know pain well.) My question is: Would the Valtrex (antiviral) be ineffective because it was administered after the intense pain had begun?
I am allergic to it. (my rash is seen in my photos if you need it). For me, the side effects are worse than TN itself for me, but others have said it's life changing. Other people have listed Trileptal (Oxcarbazepine), Neurontin (Gabepentin), Elavil (Amitriptyline) and Lyrica (Pregabalin) as some alternatives. I am currently on Lyrica + Cymbalta. I can't say that it's working but still playing with dosages. Anyone reading, please feel free to add your own choices and/or experiences.
Last year my dermatologist did a biopsy of recurrent patches of dry, red skin that seemed to appear after sun exposure or became worse after the exposure. It was not the typical butterfly rash. He said the test was not conclusive for discoid lupus but felt that was the diagnosis even though ANA negative. He started me on Plaquenil 200 mg twice a day. I stopped the medicice in January and symptoms were better until May when I was on vacation at a lake in Tn.
The dermatologist usually say it can't. But they can't cure a rash. I know a lot of people that suffered major events in their life which caused dry skin and mild eczema. The problems all went away after the stress and immune system got back to normal. Don't use steroids or anxiety medications. They will prolong the problem.
Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase some of the side effects of Lyrica. Lyrica can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Cold or allergy medicine, narcotic pain medicine, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, and medicine for seizures, depression or anxiety can add to sleepiness caused by Lyrica.
Thanks everyone, I have decided to cut back on the lyrica, and so far today the pain is worse and it has only been one day without the lyrica. Not sure what to do. I see my neuro on November 2 so I will discuss this with him then, in the mean time I am just going to go back up with the lyrica and deal with it until I see him in less than a month. Thank you again for your input.
I was told its not considered post herpetic neuralgia until the rash is gone, apparently I still have a little which becomes inflamed and surrounded by another humongous rash or hive. what to do next, I m allergic to lyrica, Cymbalta, Neurontin etc. this is a nightmare. can the rash come from the llidoderm patch, I have it off and the burning is just getting stronger and stronger if that's possible. I wanted to go to the fire dept.
The areas affected seem to be the back and arms and all the lower portion of his body. No rash and the itching is to the point of drawing blood and getting only a few hours of sleep per night. Have seen numerous doctors, even went to Mayo in April; have tried several meds; they are trying him on Lyrica right now but it is really sedating him and he is still itching.
