723959 tn?1314744225 lyrica is not recommended for people with a history of addiction as it can be abused..people catch a buzz off of lyrica///it is not physically addicting they say...but is a drug an addict would possibly abuse..the safer choice is the older nerve pain drug called neurontin as it does not have the same effect on sensorium as llyrica does...good that u r looking into it...i did not tolerate lyrica as it made me spacey..not a drug i would care to take nor abuse..but some love it..
Avatar n tn I will go out on a limb to add that the rare side effects have a greater possibility in older people (post menopause for obvious reasons) an A-type personality and / or weakened immune system, but as well for anyone suffering constipation or decreased urine output (common side effect of Lyrica) since then hour body is not washing the drug from our system and toxicity then becomes the fuel for yet more side effects.
329994 tn?1301663248 OMG! I've heard people in the past talk about people the way they talk about your co-worker. People can sure be cold-hearted. This really is heart breaking. Here she doesn't even talk about what is going on with her and the co-workers talk so disrespectfully anyway. I know people are uninformed, but there is no excuse for talking about someone the way they talk about her. One would think they would stop talking even after having the stroke right there in front of them.
773755 tn?1328119777 Lyrica, the first FDA-approved drug to treat fibromyalgia, has been associated with severe allergic reactions that can cause angioedema — swelling of the throat, head, and neck, resulting in airway compromise. Furthermore, Lyrica can promote weight gain, sleepiness, dry mouth, and brain fog. Finally all seizure medications, including Lyrica, can increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors. When you look at the adverse effects of Lyrica, I think it should be used as a last resort.
Avatar n tn I am hearing contradictory opinions about the safety of Lyrica in a recovering addict. I would rather live with the pain than relapse. Has anyone had any experience with this?
Avatar m tn He had me try an older generic, and of course I said it didn’t work. Now, I am thing about trying Lyrica to control my pain. However, reading the side affects it seems a bit scary and I want to be 100% mentally. Is Lyrica a viable, or even a good non-narcotic option to control pain? Does it even work?
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi guys, I'm investigating Lyrica, and a switch over maybe, I'm almost at the max of Gabapentin, so am looking into other options. I have heard though that so many people GAIN lots of weight with Lyrica..... have you folks found that to be a problem?? My mother is 79 and was put on Lyrica..( not to sure why), but apparently gained 40 pounds in 7 weeks, and I for soure don't want that. Extra weight is also hard on us with MS........
Avatar f tn Hi, I am so sorry. I can totally relate to how you feel. I am older 10 years older than you, and I have many health problems related to arthritis, fibro, and disc problems in neck and back. I also have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, hypothyroid, and thanks to all of this stuff, since about age 40 I started gaining weight and now you can add very overweight. Of course, the doctors blame everything on the 30-40 extra lbs. I'm carrying around, but I felt lousy for a long time.
Avatar n tn Aching in your muscles and joints and fatigue. It hurts you to get out of the chair, also fatigued. You wake up tired and go to bed tired. Your head always feels tired. Complaints of fatigue and joint pains are, unfortunately, very common. fibromyalgia, a condition characterized by muscular aches and pains, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. It is much more common in women, and it can be debilitating. Many conventional medical doctors do not think that fibromyalgia exists.
Avatar m tn Figured new people see it get more answers so I can assure myself that lyrica and triazolam arnt opiates in any way. I'm prescribed lyrica (have been for years) justy mom said I looked like **** offered me the triazolam and I had been up 2 days and I took it so I was worried about it prolonging my withdrawals. Sometimes people answer very vividly and don't really explain it so that's why I ask again,I just wanted to make sure those two drugs are completly diffrent from oppiates.....
Avatar f tn I am hoping the switching to lyrica will help with the amount of painkillers I need to take in the run of a day. A friend of mine suffers from Fibromyalgia and started taking Lyrica over a month ago and has had wonderful results. Best of luck trying out the Lyrica!
1345254 tn?1325918041 I was on a lyrica regiment for about 6 months and in regard to side effects, never had any adverse reactions that were of concern. At first the Dr started me on gabapentin (neurontin), but that stuff really messed with me. Within a week, I'd wake in the mornings horribly dizzy..It would take me a couple hours just to get feeling somewhat normal. So the Dr switched me to the lyrica..
Avatar f tn I tried Lyrica and the side effects were too much for me. Although there are a lot of people that can tolerate the Lyrica and they do say that it has helped a lot. I started Savella 3 days ago and so far I haven't had any side effects at all. So I really feel positive about it. Hang around for a while and someone who is taking Lyrica will leave a reply.
488823 tn?1218370567 You must be in the Eltrombopag trial? I haven't seen many in it here at the forum, but I am following it with interest since I have a friend who will not be able to treat unless Eltrombopag is approved. I wish you luck and hope you can find a way to endure the side effects so you can continue treating.
210982 tn?1280983895 Hello! My Dr prescribed me Lyrica and I have been readin about this drug, but I can't seem to find anything telling me what is in it. Does anyone know the ingredients? I was told it was a non-narcotic drug but then the leaflet says that it can be addictive and do not stop immediately..blah,blah, blah...does anyone know what is in this stuff?
Avatar m tn then i would have to say give it a try, it is pricey, and sometimes insurance dosent always cover it, so if not covered by insurance, ask about neurontin, i take neurontin 600 mgs three times a day and it helps with my everyday pain quite well. lyrica and neurontin are in the same class of drugs and are not physically addictive.
Avatar m tn My doctor gave me a script for Lyrica to treat my anxiety disorder. I was taking 6mg a day of xanax then i just recently switched to 4mg. a day of Klonopin. But she said in Europe the FDA approved Lyrica for anxiety treatment. Its supposedly non addictive. However reviews i have read, users complain of weight gain and increased appetite which my weight is one of my anxieties. Has anyone else tried Lyrica before for anxiety?
Avatar f tn I managed to get off them by swapping to a medication called Lyrica, i have also read stories of people having great success while taking Lyrica and its older weaker version Gabapentin, these drugs where originally designed to help suffers of seizures but have been found to be very helpful for many other things.
Avatar m tn If there is no such thing, you could try having Lyrica made up by a compounding pharmacy (special prescription needed), in capsules of small strength that you could take while tapering regular Lyrica. Maybe something halfway between the only doses available. For instance, if Lyrica only comes in 25 mg increments, have some made in 12.5 so that the taper is slower. This will cost you money, of course, but it might be well worth it.
5164523 tn?1366525959 It will take 2-3 weeks to notice a big difference in the pain. That seems like a low dose. Lyrica comes in other mg too. My nerve pain is always worse at night, unfortunately I can go back on Lyrica for a while. A word of warning about Lyrica, it caused me to gain weight. Just thought I would pass on the info. Good luck!
