Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica for shingles

lyrica

Avatar m tn I've had them but caught it within 48 hours so my primary care put me on acyclovir, which cuts the duration as well as the aeverity. I think you might be too far in for an antiviral. Narcotics aren't the best way to treat shingles pain. Ask for neurontin or lyrica. Cymbalta may work but that takes longer to kixk in. Treating shingles pain is pretty basic. If your doctor doesn't take your pain seriously, you might want to look at finding a new doctor.

Avatar n tn was diagnosed with shingles on the left side of my face about 4 days ago. I have been taking valtrex for 3 days now twice a day. I have been consistent on antiviral medication and was prescribed lyrica for pain.

Avatar m tn Hi, Lyrica shouldn't be addictive at the low doses used for neuropathy. My grandmothers been on it or the other derivative, gabapentin, for years. Just take it at low doses. It works wonders for treating nerve pain though.
Avatar f tn I remember how excited she was when she discovered a medicine that worked for her nerve pain, Lyrica. She had relief for the first time in what seemed like years. But, as she told you it is expensive and can cause weight gain. The most important thing to remember, as Tuck and marycamel pointed out, is that not every medication works for everybody and so you and your Doctor will need to experiment and see which one's work the best for you.
Avatar n tn im on lycra 75mg twice daily for impingment of tendons in my shoulder.Dont find any help at all.
Avatar f tn Following a mild case of shingles - taking antiviral and Lyrica meds, I ended up in the ER with nausea, loose bowels, feeling like vomiting and pain in my right ribcage area The dignosis was a diseased gallbladder. It has been three weeks since my surgery. All is well except for the tenderness - achiness in my right ribcage. I am taking Tylenol as needed. This discomfort occurs periodically. My question is whether this is coming from the shingles or from the gallbladder surgery.
Avatar n tn Mostly upper arms, but abdomen after an abdomenal surgery. My MD put me on Lyrica. I took it routinely for about 2 years. It broke the itch/scratch cycle i had suffered from for about 20 years. I now take lyrica only on occasion and it has kept it under control.
Avatar f tn And as if this wasn’t enough, the FDA recently approved two new drugs, Lyrica and Cymbalta, for use in PHN. Lyrica can cause dry mouth, dizziness, leg swelling, and memory loss. Cymbalta can cause nausea, constipation, fatigue, and both insomnia and excessive sleepiness. Avatar f tn For the past 2 months I have been trying to deal with shingles I have had them in my left eye and going up into my forhead and hair. Avatar f tn I'm thinking about installing a "bubble", but can't figure out how to move about with my life. lol Don't know what the reasoning for the timing, except that the directions were 300mg before bedtime...then when it was increased to 600mg, the nurse didn't say anything about changing. Didn't even think to ask when I saw the doctor and it's just continued. I will definitely ask in three weeks when I visit the doc again. I haven't tried lyrica...
Avatar m tn What you are experiencing is not rare following a bout of Shingles. It can be caused by the Shingles Virus - that is still lingering in your system. I am not a physician and they certainly are more knowledgeable than I. However I'm surprised that they are not connecting your pain the the Shingles (Herpes Zoster) Virus. There is a condition called Postherpetic neuralgia. It is a complication of Shingles, which is caused by the chickenpox (herpes zoster) virus.
Avatar n tn I have had post herpatic neuralgia nerve ending pain for the past four and one half years in the inside corner of my left eye, the entire left eyebrow area, left forhead and a section of my scalp. This of course occurred after a bout with shingles (my first and only) The pain starts in my left eyelid and continues up into my eyebrow, forehead and scalp in about a 2 1/2 " wide path that goes up to the upper center of my scalp. The pain never stops. My question.
Avatar f tn Greetings, I got diagnosed with the shingles. Almost a month later, I still have an intense pain on the area with the rash. The pain as unbearable. Blisters have popped and crusted mostly. The doctor prescribed Acyclovir pills on the first visit. Also, gave me two ointments, Fucidin and Zovirax. On the second visit he gave me Lignopanthen, Lyrica and a nerve tonic. I told him about the intense pain. Anyway, the pain still persists. I am really worried about PHN that I read about.
Avatar f tn I appreciate everyones advice. Yes I have tried lyrica. wasn't thrilled with it. I have been on Neurontin for awhile but damn that isn't working either. I may try the lyrica again with my drs. permission of course. I never thought about the shingles or attack. I go back to the dr on Tues I will ask him about that when I go on Tues. Trust me it is not going away, but is getting worse. My dr is in on fri again, so I will call him then.
Avatar f tn I too have shingles (reoccurring) for the past 15 years. In the last 2 months i have had shingles 4 times -- now I am getting painful leg and feet cramps especially at night. Exactly as you are described. Excrutiating pain, wondering if anyone else has this with their shingles. And who do you see? I went to a pain management doctor yesterday who gave me lyrica and basically blew me off. Funny -- I go to the ER and they give me more sympathy and understanding than the PM doctor.
Avatar n tn Nerve end pain in the lower back has been a problem since healing of the shingles and was treated with 25 mg Lyrica. With gradually less pain from the nerve ends, I now experience the dull pain inside the right side and back. I am slightly constipated but manageable.
Avatar m tn For right now Im going with cymbalta and lyrica, so far its helped a little bit. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with klonopin for nerve pain. I just started the cymbalta today so Im hoping it will help along with the lyrica. I wish everyone a pain free day, take care.
