Lyrica and water weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica and water weight gain

lyrica

Avatar m tn Hi.....I have had GREAT SUCCESS using Lyrica for anxiety. It was prescribed to me for Fibromyalgia, and I was talking klonopin for anxiety. The 2 mixed together made me nod out. I stopped taking klonopin and had no withdrawals or depression from stopping cold turkey after taking anxiety medicine for years. The Lyrica prevented those withdrawals. Lyrica is a miracle drug for me. It helps both my Fibromyalgia and anxiety. Lyrica even enhances my mood and clears my mind. I am up to 300 mg 2x a day.
Avatar n tn I underwent gastric bypass surgery in dec... have lost 84lbs and remain on Lyrica without anymore weight gain. I had stopped the Lyrica also in Dec and restarted in March and have had no issues with regainning weight. If it works for your pain I would remain on it.
1088430 tn?1259159773 We came to the conclusion that with one of medications I was on it curved my appetite and then the lyrica was said to gain weight. however, i lost weight. so I wasn't complaining. When I did eat, I just ate right. Lots of natural foods, no processed foods, no nitrates, no soda/caffeine, no hfcs, lots of fruits and lots of veggies.
Avatar m tn I am in the process of weaning off of Lyrica because of the weight gain! Oh, and it didn't work for me very well, either. There is nothing, unfortunately, that you can safely take for the weight gain. It does make you retain ALOT of water, so drinking tons of water and taking a diuretic helps a bit. I asked my dr about it and he said anything you take has a chance of increases side effects, particularly high heart rates and increases your chances for sleep apnea.
1396846 tn?1332459510 I've experienced weight gain around the abdomen, but I'm not on Lyrica. This is weird for me - I'm a pear type and normally gain weight on the butt and hips. But this last couple of years it's all been around the stomach. Maybe our insulin levels are too high - I know that I have better luck losing weight if I stay off the carbs and try to eat lots of raw vegetables and fruit.
470168 tn?1237471245 If I could exercise I could deal with the weight gain better. I recently reduced the Lyrica but I started feeling bad again and increased it back up. I am just going to battle the weight gain harder and get surgery on my foot so I can walk. It's good to keep the dose as low as possible and still get help from it.
Avatar f tn A lot of people gain weight from Lyrica. Has anyone gained weight and then been able to lose it again? I've gained 15 lbs and I really want to get rid of this extra weight.
Avatar f tn Lyrica was the last because of the weight gain and swelling. But the nerve pain and hypersensitivity was too much to bare! So I went back on it and trying to lose the weight!! I hope this information has helped!!
1168718 tn?1464983535 In my opionion I would take the 20lb weight gain over the pain I was having. you could always just try and see if it helps the pain and try to be active so not to gain alot of weight.
1253197 tn?1331209110 Hi Sarah, I have been on lyrica now for 4 yrs and gained about 25lbs so I guess its either weight gain or pain we have to deal with Kat

378810 tn?1201987233 I did that a bit with my chronic myofascial pain, tried the lyrica and neurontin, and only took the burning away in shoulder not the pain..plus with weight gain and dopey feeling hard to work so went off..Now just take a lortab. Although am on Ultram ER and it has taken the edge off that pain..
1415174 tn?1453243103 She gets really manic (very very up and not nice) then really down and very very nice. I wonder if you cut back on calories if it is water gain or why the weight gain? well maybe it would be good until I can get back on my feet. I really appreciate your help.
1345254 tn?1325918041 I was on a lyrica regiment for about 6 months and in regard to side effects, never had any adverse reactions that were of concern. At first the Dr started me on gabapentin (neurontin), but that stuff really messed with me. Within a week, I'd wake in the mornings horribly dizzy..It would take me a couple hours just to get feeling somewhat normal. So the Dr switched me to the lyrica..
Avatar f tn No that is how you should be feeling. Just be careful as it does cause weight gain. Follow a healthy diet and exercise and you will be fine. Also if may cause sleepness, so don't drive to much until you are comfortable with it.
Avatar n tn Side effects of Lyrica including sleepiness, dizziness, blurry vision, weight gain, trouble concentrating, swelling of the hands and feet, and dry mouth. Lastly, Paxil can also be associated with weight gain. Again as stated before Wellbutrin has a lower incidence of weight gain . The average weight gain with paroxetine (Paxil®) for someone who weighs 150 pounds is about 5 pounds. Some people can gain much more.
Avatar f tn well for me when i was on sub i actually lost weight and pretty much lost my apetite on sum days mayb cause the w/ds but evn over a month and a half cuz thtas the longest ive ever been clean for but i lost like a pretty good amount of weight. never taken the other so dont know.
1637739 tn?1371688706 I tried Lyrica, to see if it would work better, but it made me feel really stupid and spacy and I did gain weight with it. Went back to gabapentin (Neurontin) and all is fine. I only take 900 mg day, sometimes 1000 so am on a small dose, but it does the trick for nerve pain.
559187 tn?1330782856 I have been on lyrica for over a year and it's a lifesaver. I have fibro and edg and restless legs and lyrica helps all of it. I haven't had weight gain though. As for the loopiness have you tried taking it at bedtime. I had it but changed to night time dosing and i don't have it now. Goodluck. I would take just plain neurontin. Tried it years ago and it made me sick all the time. and the loopiness was worse.
Avatar f tn I already have a metabolic disorder and cannot gain weight. Its very, very hard for me to lose weight. Anyway, I know it can cause vision problems, can make you high at times, bad headaches, etc. I already have migraines and acctually have not had the headaches yet that almost 90% of people get along with dizziness and weakness. I had bad vision problems and was legally blind w/o contacts or glasses.
5164523 tn?1366525959 A word of warning about Lyrica, it caused me to gain weight. Just thought I would pass on the info. Good luck!
572651 tn?1530999357 Actually I haven't had weight gain on steroids, though I've only had 2 rounds thus far. I have to say I haven't had relief of symptoms either, so I may not be opting for the IV stuff again. Steroids have produced the world's reddest face on me, and that's it. That goes away quickly each day. I'm thinking your weight gain is from fluid retention, and will remit pretty soon. Make yourself drink at least a quart of water more than usual to help flush out that stuff.
Avatar f tn About 9% of the people that take it get a 10 pound weight gain (per 150 pounds of weight). Did you have weight gain in the past?
634733 tn?1316625992 Gabapentin and Lyrica are anti-seizure medications (this class of drugs also reduces neuropathic pain) that effect the voltage gating of calcium channels in the nervous system. Just about all of the anti-seizure medications "can" (but not always do) cause weight gain. These drugs decrease certain neurotransmitters and increase neuronal GABA levels.
Avatar f tn Hello there, I read you are taking celebrex. Did you know that celebrex has been taken off many drug store shelves. It is not a safe drug. Are you sure it's the Lyrica that is causing your weight gain? If it's the Lyrica that is causing the weight gain, maybe you should stop taking it, but talk to your doctor first. Don't just stop taking Lyrica. Good luck to you.
Avatar f tn had to stop taking it for other reasons but it seemed better in the weight gain area for me(although I believe weight gain is still listed as a side effect -- you'll have to check). It worked well for my nerve pain though :).
Avatar f tn for most the drug is safe enuf///i have a friend hooked on trams///loves her lyrica and took up to 12 a day//gained a ton of weight and it made her slack off..when she takes a bunch of lyrica her speech is slurred/and not so with the trams,..
