Lyrica and radiculopathy

Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica and radiculopathy

lyrica

Avatar f tn I have a very sore neck and shoulder pain...very stiff and tight. I suffer from Migraines and have a headache every day. When I was younger - 1986 I was hit by a car and had a compound fracture to my scull, so I'm not sure if over the years I was traumatized by this. I'm frustrated and not sure if I should seek out of country help. Has anyone suffered from anything like this?
Avatar f tn In the setting of prior cervical spine surgery, with new or increasing nontraumatic cervical or neck pain or radiculopathy, initial imaging with radiographs and/or CT cervical spine without contrast is usually appropriate. Source: https://acsearch.acr.
Avatar f tn I decided we simply could not afford the Lyrica for now and am just going to take the 1/2 dosage until it is gone (couple more days) and go back to the cheaper stuff that doesn't work, lol. Last night was bad, today is bad, tomorrow will be bad, ya da ya da ya da. So right now I'm sending you good thoughts and wishing for small miracles to help you cope.
Avatar f tn Its cause is unknown, but it is characterized by diffuse aches, sometimes GI symptoms similar to irritable bowel, sleep abnormalities, low pain threshold, and other features. It is best treated with medications such as lyrica and neurontin, exercise, and physical therapy. Fibromyalgia occurs frequently in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. If no cause of the condition is identified, it is best to look for other contributing factors such as anxiety or depression.
Avatar n tn I have the same diagnosis as you do, L4L5 herniation and nerve root impingement and the radiculopathy to the LEFT buttocks that runs down the left leg/foot...but I also have muscle weakess. I don't understand why the neuro would suspect anything else because the butt/leg/foot neuropathy are all symptoms of the L4/L5 herniation. Do you have the numbness/tingling/burning/shooting pain?...those are all symptoms. Do you have other pains going on?
Avatar n tn When I get off them, they both turn red and burn and pains like piercing needles. My doctor has done an ENG and also an MRI and still hasn't isolated the problem. I believe it is related to my back problems and hopefully they will find the answer soon. The doctor did give me Lyrica which does help a little with the piercing needle feelings but doesn't stop the numbness and burning sensations. Along with Lyrcia they now have me taking Cymbalta but I still have the same problems.
Avatar f tn I use lyrica and pain relieving patches. The pain is so intense it wakes me up in the morning. Please help me.
Avatar m tn After a lot of MRI, Xrays and some other tests I have being diagnosed Radiculopathy and Neuropathy (my neurologist told me that after reading my EMG results, but there all my mri's are normal). It seems from the EMG that I have pinched nerves in both neck and lower back. So I wonder whats the relation here. Do I have neuropathy because I have radiculopathy? I have a very long list of symptoms, some of them more annoying than others.
Avatar f tn I have chronic radiculopathy pain in my great toe. I have foot drop same side following spontaneous bone fragmentation L4-5. I had emergency back surgery 30 hours after onset of foot drop but did not help. This was one year ago. Now I have foot drop, chronic back pain & electrical type sensation/radiculopathy in great toe. I have tried epidural steroids, acupuncture, & Gabapentin. Does anyone else have any ideas to manage toe pain besides narcotic?
Avatar n tn However, I also had an EMG and NCV done and a different doctor said there was no evidence of lumbar radiculopathy and instead said it was peripheral neuropathy. The doctor prescribed Lyrica and in combination with the other meds I can at least walk now. So, MY QUESTION IS, and very sorry to take so long to get to it is ...
Avatar n tn If not, then he would likely increase your dose and see if that makes a difference. I have also heard that a drug by the name of Lyrica might help with the nerve pain. I have not used it but I have heard some good things about it. I have nerve pain and the only thing that works for me are opiates which if you can get along without them is good. Like I said, chat with your Doctor and see what he says. Please take care and good luck.
1309064 tn?1273503022 My left buttock and hip burn as well as my hamstrings and side of my leg and I often have sharp pain and spasm in my low back. The burning in my foot traveled and now includes my lower leg to just above my left knee and remains constant. Recently my right foot began to tingle and I've had similar pain in the right buttock. Oddly, in the midst of this I had a left knee replacement where the syptoms decreased to a point of toleration long enough to allow me to get through rehab.
Avatar n tn Currently, the 2 most effective medications for peripheral neuropathy that we have available are gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica). The latter is a newer drug and is more expensive than the first. I generally tend to start with gabapentin and will switch to pregabalin if the gabapentin isn't doing the trick. The mediactions may not take away all of your symptoms, although ideally, they will dampen them considerably.
Avatar n tn I did finally find a dermatologist that prescribed Lyrica and believe it or not it helped! Mine normally flares up in the fall for some reason - so each fall I just go to her and get another prescription - it takes about a week or so and it starts subsiding...just a suggestion to try..I know I am completely miserable every time I feel it coming on. Good luck.
Avatar f tn This sounds like a textbook case of lumbar radiculopathy. You can engage in some self guided physical therapy at home. You can find exercises and stretches on YouTube. NSAIDS, such as Motrin, will reduce pain and inflammation. Also try alternating ice and heat. Most cases of radiculopathy respond well to these treatments. If you begin to have symptoms that include loss of bladder or bowel function you should seek treatment from a physician immediately.
398791 tn?1201228933 Hi, I've got a few things going on, but all tied together. I'm 53. I have CRPS Type II as a result of carpal tunnel surgery, a year later I had an emotional breakdown and have been dx'd with depression, anxiety and panic disorder. I also have Cervical Radiculopathy and will probably be having a cervical fusion soon. Now my question. I have an increasing number of myoclonus jerks recently and wake up at least 15 times every night from them.
365931 tn?1198070162 I have been to see a specialist who sent me for and MRI of which it showed I do have an extra disc and off of the 6th disc is an inch and a half by an inch and a half bone to the right which should not be there but my specialist does not think that this will be causing me a concern. He sent me to see a Pain Management doctor who placed an epidural steroid injection into my lower spine and told me it will take up to 3 weeks to work at times.
Avatar f tn I did see a neurosurgeon and I am having an MRI taken on Monday and having the doctor review the results on Tuesday. I was given Lyrica to take and it seems to cut down the reaction so far. I will update you Tuesday.
Avatar m tn I also have been told that I have degenerative disc disease in C5 and C7 areas. My doctor said that the carpal tunnel can be coming from my neck and doing carpal tunnel surgery wouldn't help if it was coming from my neck. Have you ever heard of carpel tunnel coming from neck pain If so, what treatment would you suggest?
Avatar f tn Fibromyalagia is another medical condition that leads to whole body pains, and is best treated with medications such as lyrica and neurontin, exercise, and physical therapy. On EMG/NCS, the pattern of muscle and nerve activity will provide evidence for localization and ultimately diagnosis. In other words, it can tell the difference between a rdiculopathy and ALS. Tongue fasciculations are abnormal movements seen in the tongue, much like a bag of worms.
1283286 tn?1312911966 Doctor prescribed me Lyrica 75mg twice daily for nerve pain and cyclobenzaprine 10mg three times daily as a muscle relaxer..Has anybody had this combination of drugs prescribed for them? Did you feel sleepy alot? Any dizziness?Any help would be appreciated..
Avatar f tn I have atrophied in my hand (minimal grip strength and loss of use of middle, ring and pinky) and my shoulder and shoulder blade are atrophied. I get severe neck pain and headaches. I also have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in the limb. Any comments from the forum on any related things you have going on. I am scared and have been given the run around by docs.
Avatar m tn I still have full control of my arm and hand but the tingling numbness is both annoying and troubling. After some research it appears I have symptoms of Cervical Radiculopathy, I'm just seeking confirmation of this and I'm curious as to what my treatment should be. Since everything seems to be very mild will rest alone heal? And if so about how long does it take before my symptoms go away? Or do I need further treatment?
Avatar m tn what is effectivity of high power laser therapy in radiculopathy and neuro musculoskeletal pain
1379583 tn?1294260171 I took a trip to the Mayo Clinic in FL and was sent a letter after my visit that said I had thoracic radiculopathy in T7 / T8. MRI show NO PROBLEMS. Mayo said I had a myofascial problem. Another neurologist in TN ran NCV / EMG and said it was connective tissue problem not a nerve problem. I have pain that radiates around from my spine under my left arm and through the lower edge of my left breast. The pain (feels like nerve pain to me) is at times excruciating.
Avatar m tn I have pain in my left forearm and in my upper left jaw. I saw a cardiologist two weeks ago and my pcp 3 weeks ago. no symptoms like this. I assume if it was cardiac, I would have some sort of sob or chest pain, etc. could this pain be from the disc or from a pinched nerve caused by the bad disc?
Avatar n tn I have also been experiencing pain around my left shoulder blade and left chest. Again quite sporadic when it happens, sometimes when Im not doing anything and sometimes under exertion. What could this be? Should I see my doctor? Thanks.
Avatar m tn The treatment is multi-factorial and should begin with neuropathic treatment such as neurontin, lyrica, or elavil. The numbness and tingling in your hands may be related to carpal tunnel syndrome esp. if the sensory changes do not involve the small finger. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a compression/entrapment syndrome of the median nerve at the wrist. It usually results from excessive use of hands and occupational “microtrauma”.
Avatar n tn If you have any rash at all in the area of pain, or scarring from prior vesicles or blisters, the first diagnosis is likely-- the treatment of choice is antiviral drugs very early, and then anticonvulsants like tegretol, lyrica or gabapentin. For the second diagnosis I would check for any sensation loss in your forearms or fingers, or weakness-- either of those would suggest nerve compression in the neck. This second condition might respond to a steroid dose pack.
