Lyrica and nerve pain

Common Questions and Answers about Lyrica and nerve pain

lyrica

Avatar f tn I take a combination of Lyrica and Elavil (amitriptilyne) for my neuropathic foot pain. It took a while to find the right combo. Initially it was gabapentin, then gabpentin + Elavil then Lyrica + Elavil. Elavil is and antidepressant. At some point along the way I added 10-15 LBS. I can't be sure if it was the meds, or the mass quantities of cookies I was shoving into my gob over the CHristmas holidays. (Being a baker can be hazardous to your waist!
Avatar f tn Not sure if it would work for fibromyalgia. I have nerve pain from RSD after many hand surgeries. (I also have fibromyalgia.) I did stellate ganglion blocks for the nerve pain and have had varying relief with them. Maybe it's something you could ask about. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn They are prescriptions but are topical and not systemic. Nerve pain can be hard to manage and you sometimes need to piece a bunch ofvthings together to getvrelief. Pool therapy may alsonhelp.
Avatar n tn lyrica is mostly for nerve pain..I just had fusion...lyrica is of little help..side effects are not great..dizziness, loss of concentration etc..
Avatar m tn Thanks for the info. I didn't know it was a nerve pain med. The dose may be related to the other meds i'm on. I take a pretty high dose of oxycodone. However my pain is not nerve pain. i've had 7 major abdominal surguries, 4 in the last 16 months and have a ton of adhesions.
5164523 tn?1366525959 My girlfriend has dealt with leg pain for years. Nerve pain and usually at night. As a result she was prescribed Lyrica, 50 mg. twice a day. Problem is, she isn't taking it regularly. Maybe 2 or 3 days then off for a couple days. I told her that maybe it's a drug that has to build up in your system before she get's results. Anyone know if this is correct? Thanks.
210982 tn?1280983895 I was briefly diagnosed with RSD and was prescribed Lyrica for the severe nerve pain I was experiencing. I found that it did take away my nerve pain but at a great cost to me, it messed with my memory and I also gained 30lbs in 6 weeks while I was taking it. Im not totally positive that it alone caused the weight gain, but there wasnt really anything else it could have been.
Avatar n tn It affects my sleep, my mood with my children adn husband and my outlook on life. I cant find anything on the nerve pain affiliated with this condition. Idea????
689327 tn?1240229164 The first thing is to make absolutely certain that the nerve has been decompressed-- if this was an open procedure I guess I should assume the nerve was visualized and there is nothing pinching or pushing against the nerve. Beyond that the only thing I know of would be the 'usual anticonvulsants'-- neurontin in high doses, lyrica, tegretol... sometimes a small amount of an opiate makes a big difference.
Avatar m tn Lyrica was a miracle for my nerve pain for 2 1/2 years. I went off it since the pain was gone and started to have serious anxiety problems. I finally connected the dots! The Lyrica was also solving my aniexty attack problem. I went back on it. I never had weight gain or problems with sleepiness. Everyone is different. You might be one of the lucky ones like me.
Avatar f tn Nerve pain should be treated with something like neurotin or Lyrica that specifically works on nerve pain. Narcotics will not do much to help that sort of pain. Hope you get to feeling better soon!
1380526 tn?1292839385 Hi I have been taking Lyrica for about 6 months now. The reasons I started it were a bit different, basically to relieve chronic muscle/joint pain and the twitches and to get a better sleep at night. However, I do get facial pain, I'm not sure if it is the same pain as you or not. Mine for the most part is just this constant achiness that makes me want to constantly rub my face and then sometimes I get these sharp sparks that really hurt but they are fast and don't last too long.
Avatar n tn I checked online and it says that LYRICA is indicated to treat Diabetic Nerve Pain, Pain after Shingles, and Fibromyalgia. I would be honest with your doctor and let him/her know the LYRICA is not helping and you would like to try something else. With most PM doctors you have to try all the non-narcotics and anti-inflammatory drugs before they give you anything else. I would try and be open minded and try everything they offer. Good luck.
Avatar m tn well if you have nerve pain, and nerve pain can be the absolute worst type of pain! then i would have to say give it a try, it is pricey, and sometimes insurance dosent always cover it, so if not covered by insurance, ask about neurontin, i take neurontin 600 mgs three times a day and it helps with my everyday pain quite well. lyrica and neurontin are in the same class of drugs and are not physically addictive.
Avatar f tn For two years I have been experiencing severe pain in my left hip which radiates down the leg to the foot, as well as numbness and tingling in both feet and pain in the toes. The pain is worst when sitting down, lying down or bending over, and as a result i stand most of my waking hours. It is suspected to be sciatica, but I have not been able to obtain a diagnosis, largely because the CT_Scan and MRI of the lower back, which show some minor problems, show no nerve compression.
Avatar f tn Also some antidepressants like Cymbalta and Nortryptiline are used in treating nerve pain. Nerve pain can be very difficult to treat. My doctor tried me on many combinations and dosages of medications before we found what works best for me. Where is your nerve pain and what have you tried to treat it?
Avatar n tn On the second night, I was awakened by excruciating pain in my right leg, worse than what I was having pre-Lyrica. Has anyone experienced an increase in his/her nerve pain after starting Lyrica?
Avatar f tn Which is bascilyall around severe nerve and muscle pain in your bladder and the entire pelvic area! Like I did say I have tooth pain and its bad and throbbing my whole left side of my face. I have to get a ton of fillings done and a lot of crowns and 2 extractions and 2 inplants and I just detoxed 20 days ago. I feel a lot better but the pain and future pain is thhe problem. Should I only take it whe I have pain? I know it freaking addictive and that pisses me off.

1146870 tn?1261519635 I am looking for some relief for nerve pain after a stroke. My right side is total pain all the time. It hinders my everyday life.
Avatar f tn I also have a bad shooting clitoral pain called dysthetic vulvadynia and a Pedundal nerve block might help that...any nerve block experience also? She wants me on Lamictal or jbaclofen as she knows the epigastric pain is causing me to have possible narcotic bowel syndrome or opiate induced hyperalgesia... Just wanted to know if anyone else takes these meds.. She wants to start me on lamictal xr 50mg. Thanks for any help..
Avatar f tn News top ten neurology hospitals in the country, which includes the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Methodist Hospital in Houston, UCLA, and Boston Mass. Neurontin and Lyrica help nerve pain, I take the latter, but it's awfully potent.
712802 tn?1274645485 Hi, I take lyrica 225mg 2 x a day. I have been and still am where you are. I have had a few bad days where I was looking at that option. I was able to get help from here which was great. I have not talked to any of my Dr's about this due to problems I already have at work and did not want anything like this to help my work mess with me any more than they already are. I am on alot of different drugs so I can not say that it was the lyrica.
Avatar f tn I am taking Lyrica for chronic nerve pain.It has helped me so much.I have read the side effects and it also scared me...........I have had no ill side effects while on it at all.I have not gotten off of it yet but my doctor said he would wean me down slow and I would be fine.Do what you think is right for you.Talk to your doctor and tell him your concerns.
Avatar f tn I tried Lyrica too and at first it made me feel "high" but when I changed the time I took it - not at the same time as my pain medications - it helped for about a week and then I started having problems seeing and hallucinations. Obviously I no longer take Lyrica which is too bad since it DID seem to relieve some of the pain but the side effects were way more serious. I do have a question for you and anyone else out there regarding: sudden onset knee pain.
