lyrica

1218873 tn?1300091216 Did your doctor who prescribed you Lyrica and Amitriptyline tell you the implications or reasons why he/she was prescribing it to you? Lyrica is prescribed for seizures, Fibromyalgia, diabetic neuropathy, or other neuropathy associated diseases. Amitriptyline is in the class of antidepressants which can be used for neuropathic pain as well.
1396846 tn?1332459510 Thanks everyone, I have decided to cut back on the lyrica, and so far today the pain is worse and it has only been one day without the lyrica. Not sure what to do. I see my neuro on November 2 so I will discuss this with him then, in the mean time I am just going to go back up with the lyrica and deal with it until I see him in less than a month. Thank you again for your input.

Has there been a referral to a pain management specialist? Without any pathology identified, the goal is to obtain maximum pain control while maintaining optimal function and movement. Have any neuropathic pain relievers been tried? (Lyrica is an example) Managing pain may be his best option at this time.
Avatar f tn If I am jolted by my Myoclonus the arm or leg will shoot up along with the lips episodes.. Over and over. I can get no answers from the internet or from my ENT and Neurologist. My Neuro thought it may be a side affect of high doses of Gabapentin so switched me to Lyrica....nothing changed. Has anyone heard of this? I am worried about my health and also so afraid it will happen in public! Believe me people will move away from what they see as a crazy lady, lol. I do use a CPAP for Apnea.
Avatar f tn I have 2 types of myoclonus, spinal myoclonus and reflex myoclonus. 2 EEGs normal. I have been told not epilepsy therefore they are not always due to epilepsy. Although the treatment I have been given is clonazepam which is an anti epilepsy drug. Feel free to look at my homepage and add me as a friend.
Avatar f tn For neuropathy and other sensations I had relief with both Cymbalta and Lyrica. The only downside to the Lyrica was difficulty with cognition and drowsiness. Savella (milnacipran) is the new medication and it works much the same as Cymbalta...it is an antidepressant. As uk2 mentioned, the patches help with pain as well. My current treatment is with Ultram for both FMS and RSD and Trazadone for sleep. It's much a 'trial and error'...
Avatar f tn Spinal myoclonus is myoclonus in the spinal cord including segmental and propriospinal myoclonus. Palatal myoclonus is a regular rhythmic contraction of one or both sides of the soft palate. These can be accompanied by myoclonus in other muscles like face, tongue, throat and diaphragm. These are very rapid about 140 a minute and may persist even in sleep. Treatment includes stopping any drugs suspected to be causing myoclonus and treating metabolic derangements.
710547 tn?1295446030 It may be made worse by attempts at precise, coordinated movements. Action myoclonus is the most disabling form of myoclonus and can affect the arms, legs, face, and even the voice. This type of myoclonus often is caused by brain damage that results from a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain when breathing or heartbeat is temporarily stopped.
Avatar f tn The most recent symptom, and one that particularly concerns me, is a peculiar, somewhat intense and jolting sensation that is best described as an earthquake feeling. It happens mostly at night as I'm sleeping, and makes my bed shake noticeably - just like a seismic episode. At first I didn't notice any real physical feelings outside of the bed shaking, but just had an episode as I was seated in a chair, an noticed that it feels like it may be related to my heart.
719785 tn?1232901518 they increased it to 60 mg and added ultram. It just made me more forgetful, clumsy and tired. I guess my question is... Is this normal and are there any other treatments that actually work. The pain makes me very irritable and the lack of sleep/rest isn't helping either.
Avatar m tn I was wondering if anyone had any input on these full body night jerks i am having. The medical term for what im expierencing is termed myoclonus. It is a sudden, and uncontrollable jerking of the limbs or body. I expierence this whenever i try to fall asleep on a plane or in a car. It seems anytime i take an opiate, in my case Oxycodone (percocet/roxicet), shortly before i lay down or try and fall asleep i experience these violent jerks.
Avatar n tn The condition usually appears in adults and can last indefinitely. Some people with palatal myoclonus regard it as a minor problem, although some occasionally complain of a "clicking" sound in the ear, a noise made as the muscles in the soft palate contract. The disorder can cause discomfort and severe pain in some individuals.
Avatar n tn Hi The sudden, involuntary jerking of a muscle or group of muscles is known as myoclonus. It may occur alone or in sequence, infrequently or many times each minute. The twitching cannot be controlled by the person experiencing it. The simplest form consists of a muscle twitch followed by relaxation. The simple forms of myoclonus (hiccups and "sleep starts") can occur in normal persons and cause no difficulties.
Avatar f tn While I was filing old paperwork I found a report of the only evoked potentials test I had from 11 years ago. It was normal, but said "Scalp amplitude was within normal limits, but at the upper end. The large amplitude scalp response is not sufficient to suggest a cortical origin for the myoclonus." What is a large amplitude scalp response? I know it's probably meaningless, but I was just curious.
Avatar m tn I've had spinal myoclonus and startle/reflex myoclonus for 4 years, I take clonazepam which can be of help. Myoclonus can occur without an underlying cause, I've had numerous tests all of which have returned normal. I'm waiting for some blood test results at the moment. The thing I find difficult is not finding a cause and the possibility of never finding a cause! I hope the Mirapex ER helps you.
Avatar m tn The pediatrician said based on everything that I have seen and the times that these occurred, he diagnosed my little one with Myoclonus. He said to monitor it very closely and if it starts to happen more frequently then we need to go see a Neuro Pedi. I asked him if this was common and he said no and this could take one of two courses. One being something to not worry too much about and the other may be related to epilepsy.
Avatar n tn Myoclonus typically is not painful, and is not usually described as spasms. Myoclonus are rapid irregular, non-rhythmic jerks. Spasms is a word used to describe clonus, which is different from myoclonus, and describes repetitive rhythmic contractions of a muscle usually when the muscle is stretched. The two are very different and have different causes.
1321070 tn?1274477148 I am a 38 yr old male and am being told I have myoclonus, At 1st i went and had an MRI done and they read i had... Widely scattered punctate regions of T2 and Flair signal hyperintensity within the deep white matter both frontal lobes. This might represent some vasculitis, or early changes of small vessel ischemia. Cannot completely exclude early changes of multiple sclerosis. I watned toget a second opinion and went and seen another doctor explaining that I do not have all the symptoms of MS.
61536 tn?1340698163 160 ANA and elevated ESR and C4, the other tests were negative. I also have restless legs, diagnosed when I was only 10 years old (31 now), and DDD affecting L3, L4, L5, and S1. I mention these things since I don't know whether any of it may or may not be related. I know there are probably lots of neurological issues that can cause twitching, but is there a direction I should be going? Does this fit any pattern? Thank you.
Avatar m tn i am 16 years old and i occasionally have muscle twitches when sitting or laying down. They last for about 30 sec to 1 min. I have been reading around and are they myoclonic twitches? I have recently been having this problem and it is annoying to endure, not painful but just weird to experience.
Avatar m tn it could be that the jerky movements are myoclonus and the fact that they only happen when you move would mean that its action myoclonus. myoclonus is usually is a medical sign of an underlying cause but sometimes it can happen without a cause. i would suggest that you go see a neurologist because you say you also have mental changes. if you would like to read a bit more on myoclonus you could go to the we move website and click the myoclonus link. hope you get some answers soon.
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, his condition is suggestive of myoclonus or myoclonic jerk. But it needs a detailed evaluation for type of myoclonus (Physiologic, Essential, Epileptic or Secondary) and also the focal discharge arising from the region of the brain. This condition needs o be differentiated from restless leg syndrome wherein the symptoms are predominantly restricted to legs and there are other causes.
Avatar f tn On top of that I have palatal myoclonus where my palate spasms and my ears constantly pop. It tends to be if one myoclonus is really bad the other one is "ok". Anyhow, talk with you soon.
Avatar f tn Hi  I too have action myoclonus and have been in hospital for two months and haven't been able to walk for three. My symptoms started 4.5 mths ago and I have it in my legs, arms, hip flexors, and neck. I have better days and bad days. I am in Australia and currently taking 2.5mg clonazepam, one fluoxetine tablet and 20mg of baclofen a day but i am still getting worse. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Some days I can't even feed myself.
338985 tn?1304314202 Hi I have a movement disorder called spinal myoclonus, my jerks are mainly in my legs and back... I too try throwing drinks over people and myself on a regular basis. It sounds like you could have a form of myoclonus or it may be side effects of meds as mentioned earlier. Myoclonus is basically muscle jerks the same as having hiccups which is why you have no control over them.
Avatar m tn 10 days after it a persistent hiccup started. He did a chest ct scan and a gastroscopy and there is nothing relevant on them. This hiccup often starts after meals, with an eructation, and sometimes he stops 1 or 2 hours after he falls asleep. Normally it lasts from 2 to 4/8 days. What can we do? Could it be a consequence of the stroke even if it didn't involve the brainstem and cerebellum part of the brain? We already treated him with: baclofen, promazine, omeprazole and domperidone.
