Hi. I have panic disorder. Took Celexa for 7 years and it pooped out. Pdoc prescribed Luvox. Have taken that for five months and it's just not doing the trick. Still have anxiety and breakthrough panic attacks. He has given me the choice of lexapro or Zoloft. Since Celexa and lexapro are so similar, I'm concerned that the lexapro won't work given that the Celexa stopped working.
I have been given by my not so great psyc Clomipermine (which I believe worked for me years ago) to treat my OCD. My PCP prescribed Luvoc with some enthusiasm for my condition (which has been at an all time high because of mass stress in my home). Presently I'm taking up to 4 or 5 mgs of ativan daily plus 20 mgs Lexapro at night. The psyc told me to stay on the Lexapro while beginning a dose of 70 mgs of Clomipermine, and to stay on Lexapro indefinitly.
All these meds are quite different from one another, so nobody can predict what will happen. You will probably have more side effects from Paxil, or at least that's Lexapro's claim to fame. I certainly had fewer on Lexapro than Paxil. But since you're on a sub-therapeutic dose of each you shouldn't notice anything one way or the other.
Your profile says you're from the US, and this drug isn't used all that much here. So if you don't get a lot of responses, that's why. It's used mostly in Europe, due partly to a quirk in its initial development. It just didn't apply for US approval for a long time, and didn't market it here very much when it was new.
It depends on how the Lexapro is affecting the person. Some people report drowsiness after taking it, in which case, obviously a bedtime dose makes more sense, whereas some report feeling more "up", energized, so those people do better with a morning dose.
If you feel that you'd do better with a different administration time, ask your doc, I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem. It doesn't hurt to try something like that.
it is like Paxil, Zoloft, Effexor, Celexa, Luvox. The problem is - when you first use it you feel good and it appears that your depression goes away. After a few weeks though - your body gets used to it and it is no longer effective. In fact, you may spiral back to an even worse suicidal depression than what you started with. And you can't stop "cold turkey" .... you have to gradually get off it.
I asked my psychiatrist for Lexapro but she said I needed something stronger. A friend of mine just started on Lexapro and I am pissed that I was given Paxil; which is one of the older ones. My therapist told me that the older ones caused the weight gain and the newer ones are much better. I am going to ask for Lexapro and if she doesn't prescribe it I will get it from my PCP. Oh, I am having trouble sleeping too due to this drug.
Both my GI doc and primary doc suggested this was probably due to depression/anxiety. I was given Lexapro 10mg and couldnt get past the first dose. I woke up in the middle of the night with fast heart rate, muscle spasms, and most of all, the worst burning stomach pain ever. What little appetite I had left was ruined. I didn't take any of them after that and it took a week for my appetite to return to what it was before I took it.
Paxil came next, and got approved for both depression and panic disorder, but has always been used for all types of anxiety. Then Luvox, which chose OCD as its "special" benefit. And so on. So while Celexa wasn't approved specifically for anxiety conditions, Lexapro, the newest model of Celexa, was. Of course, it doesn't take much, you only need 500 mildly anxious people and double blind studies and walla! FDA approval.
During all this I started a new job and I would lay in bed at night and have bad anxiety and panic attacks and I could not sleep . I stated taking .5 alprazolam and it helped for a little while then nothing. My dr. Started me on ambien and lunesta with little relief from either drug. The I started 100mg of trazadone with my .5 alprazolam. I started with a quarter of the trazadone .25 and quickly went all the way up to 200. And still it was a coin toss if I was going to sleep or not.
I took one 40mg pill of Latuda for six days and stopped and then about 40 hrs later took one 50mg pill of Luvox, and have been taking Luvox since then for a couple of days. I said, 26 hours at first but I counted wrong.
Should I have waited longer before taking Luvox? How long before the Latuda is out of my body? I took my last pill of Latuda Tuesday, July 3rd at maybe like 11:00pm and my first pill of Luvox Friday July, 6th, around 12:00am.
I was being weined off my Luvox while adding the lexapro and I expierencing nightmares, nausea, crying spells, terrible anxiety and suicidal thoughts.
Took Viagra no problem went back on klonopin and luvox and didnt need viagra. Had another case of performance anxiety two years later and my obsessions started again. Used Viagra and then no problem.Met my wife 6 months ago again performance anxiety, took cialis and it worked until I made a decision to try celexa for two weeks and I dont know if it was my anxiety or fear or did it really kill my sex drive. Viagra or Cialis didnt work. Went back on Luvox up to 150mg and Neurontin 300mg 2x a day.
