5195620 tn?1364978700 Is it a lung abscess? An abscess is a collection of pus and a lung abscess can follow a pneumonia. If a person has lung abscess, besides cough she will have other symptoms like high temperature and will be toxic. Asthma can predispose to lung infections as a result of phlegm collections. This is usually diagnosed by spirometry. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I did a stint of antibiotics and felt better, but then when I did a follow up x-ray they found a 3.5cm spot on my lung that was there before but hadn't gone away (no change though). I had a CT scan done this week and the scan confirmed a small mass in my lung and now I have an appointment with the pulmonologist on Friday. Should I be worried that she hasn't given me a definite idea of what it could be?
Avatar n tn I had a chest X-Ray and the doctor asked me if I'd ever been told that I have an elevated diaphragm and I replied no
Avatar n tn After the lung x-ray the doctor wrote "There is a very subtle opacity in the left apical region projected over the medial. Inferior margin of the left clavicle. Although it may be related to adjacent bony structures ( for example calcification at the joint), there is equivocal associated architectural distortion." What does the above mean in layman terms. Kindly assist.

Avatar f tn I went to a doctor for a TB screening x-ray because I can't have the Mantoux skin test. The x-ray showed findings: 1cm nodular density overlying the sixth anterior rib near the costochondral margin. ,conclusion: questionable pulmonary nodule verses prominent end of the Rt. sixth rib. They did not clear me for TB at this point, notified( and alarmed my employer that they "saw a spot" on my x-ray-Hello Hippa ! ). Could this be TB?

Avatar f tn My chest x-ray findings were as follows: Heart size is within normal limits. There is questionable vague increased opacity in the right suprahilar region. The left lung is clear. No pleural effusion is identified. No acute osseous abnormality is seen. Impression: With the clinical history, the possiblility of early pneumonia is not excluded. Can you tell me whether the fact that there are questionable vague increased opacity means that there is a mass in my lung?
Avatar f tn It would be best to have a discussion with the doctor who requested the X-ray. There are usually a few things in the doctor’s mind when the particular test was requested.

Avatar n tn I recently had a chest x-ray and the report says I have a 5 mm nodule overlying the 2nd rib in the right lung . I have been a smoker for almost 30 years. Could this be the beginnings of lung cancer? I will be getting a CT scan soon. Are CT scans accurate as far as distinguishing between benign or malignant lung nodules?
Avatar n tn My x-ray findings: "The heart sixe and pulmonary vasculature are within the normal range. No active infiltrates or effusions are identified. Some probaable mild emphysematous changes/changes of COPD are present". Avatar n tn ” “Cystic fibrosis causes about half of all cases of bronchiectasis. Other causes include lung infection (tuberculosis, fungal infections, lung abscess, pneumonia), abnormal lung defense mechanisms (immunodeficiency, rheumatic disease), and localized airway obstruction (foreign body, tumor).” “The most typical symptom is a chronic cough that produces thick, white or green sputum (discharge). The sputum may be foul-smelling and abundant and may contain blood.
Avatar n tn I would rather recommend a periapical x-ray (small dental x-ray) along with occlusal view x-ray used in dentistry as they can give meticulous details of the region involved. Also, they will even help evaluate the healing achieved so far. As your history was very troublesome hence healing may be delayed. This retreated back tooth could also be the notorious element in delayed healing of the area. Get x-rays done to clear out the picture.
Avatar m tn My question is what all would a chest X-ray show? Would it show lung cancer or esophagal cancer? Something is definately wrong wth me but the doctors can't seem to pinpoint anything.
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Apical scar tissue in the lungs is usually due to healed tuberculous pathology. Prominent bronchovascular markings are usually an incidental finding. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn My voice became super raspy but I still felt weird. So I went to the E.R department/they took x-rays checked my throat said x-ray did not see anything but they wanted to give me a bronchoscope just to make sure. I denied the procedure as I was starting to feel better. That same night I felt something hard in back of tongue but I managed to swallow it.
Avatar f tn Well defined opacities in lung on X-ray can be due to a benign or malignant nodule, tuberculosis, pneumonia or any infarct or granulomatosis. The opacities can also be diffuse—as seen in as in fluid collection, fibrosis, asbestosis, silicosis, tuberculosis etc. You will need more specialized tests like CT chest for a confirmed diagnosis. If you do not have any symptoms, there may not be a cause of concern, as this may be a benign nodule that may just need an annual follow-up.
Avatar m tn Foul smelling sputum indicates an infection. This can occur due to pneumonia, lung abscess and sometimes due to a tuberculosis infection. You will need to consult your doctor who may need to do a sputum culture and sensitivity to determine what antibiotic the organism is susceptible to. He may even ask for blood test and an X ray. In the meantime take OTC acetaminophen if you have temperature, try to take warm oral fluids and do steam inhalations prior to your meals.
Avatar f tn I recently went to the doctor during a bad viral infection which was not getting better. He did a chest x-ray and told me I had pneumonia and that he would send my x rays to a radiologist for review (standard practice). I took the antibiotics and felt better. The Radiologist report came back reading as follows: "Lungs demonstrate prominence of interstitial markings bilaterally. This may be on the basis of chronic interstitial changes.

The doctor did x-rays, CT Scans, Bronchioscopy, sputum samples, Quantiferon TB Gold, numerous blood tests put me on Flagyl.
