Lunesta vs ambien side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Lunesta vs ambien side effects

lunesta

Avatar n tn Now I am post TX and the insomnia has not yet left, so they prescribed Ambien and Lunesta for me (i grew allergic to something in the benedryl). They are all harmless to liver but the ambien & lunesta do cause dependence so I alternate them: Ambien for a couple nights, then lunesta (which does not work as well for me) for one night. The 'dependence' is not a big deal; just means you'll have a several very sleepless nights after you quit them.
1246883 tn?1285547973 I immediately started to gain weight. And stopped the Seroquel immediately (mid Dec). I know this is one of the side effects. I gained about 5lbs. Being 5'9" and weighing 135, I felt the 5 extra pounds would come off with eating better and a few more yoga classes . But the weight kept coming. I got down to a dietary intake of about 1000 cals. But that mad no difference.
Avatar n tn Treatment with Ambien may cause side effects like impairment of thinking or reactions. You may still feel sleepy the morning after taking the medication. In patients with liver disorder, a smaller dose of Ambien is generally prescribed. Ambien addiction is a serious problem requiring treatment. The signs of ambien withdrawal are insomnia, fatigue, sweating, stomach cramps, and panic attacks.
Avatar f tn I started taking Ambien & Prozac in Oct 2009. I started building a resistance so my doctor prescribed for me Restoril, that didn't work so she started me on Lunesta. After I started building a resistance to the Lunesta my doctor prescribed for me Ambien CR 12.5mg. It's now March 2010 and I need 4 or more Ambien CR to sleep. I can't sleep without it!!! I haven't taken the CR 12.5mg in 24hr and I have the common addiction symptoms.
Avatar n tn About a year ago, I went to a psycharist for generalized anxiety disorder and was started on Lexapro ( 10mg) Unfortunately, one of the major side effects is insomnia, which just componded my sleeping issure. The Lexapro help greatly in the diminishing the GAD but I just could not exist with 45 minutes of sleep a night. I was taking Lunesta 3mg prior to the Lexapro for 1 1/2 years. With the Lexapro, the Lunesta was ineffective.
Avatar n tn The nausea may just be a side affect of ambien. I love lunesta but do to the cost, I usually end up with generic ambien. Lunesta's patent has not expired yet.
1355301 tn?1287967641 I actually found that when I tried Lunesta (or had to switch to it from my normal Ambien because I was in the hospital and they only use Lunesta there) - that I had the same thing happen to me. As soon as I was able to go back to my normal Ambien, it stopped. I wonder if it's a side effect of the Lunesta... but maybe not since you said taking the Lunesta actually helped the situation for you.
Avatar n tn I took Ambien (still do) and while it didn't give me a full nights sleep an hour after I took it I could put my head on the pillow and zonk right out (and I was on TONS of ribavirin my serum level was extremely high). I seemed like most people to wake up after about 4 hours (even on the CR Ambien time release) but I could fall back asleep again. And again. And again. So I got some sleep. It did help.
620048 tn?1358018235 HI, Has anyone taken ambien and experienced side effects rom it? I seem to be having dreams, not bad, but strange. Sometimes they appear to be real even after I wake up. I have also heard of people having sleep walking while on it. If so, do you have any other suggestions? I could just take otc stuff, thats what i did before, but this was so much better and easier t take. thanks, meg ..who is having bad days lately !!
Avatar m tn There was some talk about sleep aids in a recent post. I am not sure how many of you are familiar with, or are looking for a non habit forming sleep aid. My doctor put me on a drug called Trazadone when I was going through Sub W/D's. It is actually an anti depressant and one of the side effects is it knocks you out. So it is a tremendous sleep aid, especially when you are suffering from chronic RLS and other annoying side effects of withdrawals.
1102799 tn?1269237714 LUNESTA!!! Although i have not taken it since being prego ...if your DR ok'd ambien then Lunesta is ok as well. It works MUCH better...i hated Ambien.
Avatar m tn I'm taking Lunesta for insomnia, it has less side effects than Ambien (or so they say). It works well for me, but I have had to re-increase from 2mg to 3mg. I had the sleep issues of not being able to fall asleep ~and~ stay asleep. I use to take benedryl, tyenol pm, melatonin, sleep aids, and vesicare (for I.C. that is suppose to make you sleepy also), to no avail. Lunesta has been a life saver, and hopefully when my Ts get straightened out I can come off of it too.
Avatar m tn Have you tried melatonin? I took it through my detox,it did work but not for awhile. It takes some time to build up in your system. I know you're so tired,I remember all to well. But I don't know if you should take the ambien? Just so many side effects with script drugs, and it wasn't prescribed for you. Or have you even tried Otc sleep aids?
Avatar m tn ve not experienced any long-term side effects (that I can tell or that may possibly show in blood work) from being on the Ambien this long. Of course, if I've had a rough night of sleep (or not sleeping), I will definitely be more fatigued and drowsy in the morning, but that's more than likely more related to the lack of sleep or lack of GOOD sleep than it is the Ambien itself.
Avatar n tn I have a terrible sleep disorder and have tried numerous products to sleep @ night ie: Lunesta, Ambien, Ambien CR, Remeron, etc. The best thing I have found, and it's non addictive/no side effects , to take a benedryl 1/2 hr before I go to bed. Make sure to get at least 6-8 hours of sleep.
Avatar m tn The highest available dose of Lunesta is 3mg. Recently, thought is that Lunesta, Ambien, and others in this class are very similar to benzodiazepine drugs. But I haven't read much about addiction or withdrawl from these meds. Seems like insomnia would be a given, but you could try melatonin or valerian root to combat that. Good luck either way.
327369 tn?1326119908 I have some xanex that helps sometimes and I have tried melatonin but nothing is great at helping me. I do not like lunesta or ambien because of side effects. Oh well....just wondering about others out there and how you handle it. Being awake when everyone else is asleep in the house depresses me!
1580703 tn?1651904887 there are newer drugs like ambien and maybe sonata lunesta which activate the GABA receptor like benzas but maybe with less side effects. does anyone know how to cure my sleep apnea?
1201433 tn?1328997637 The insomnia is one of the worse side effects, seems to exacerbate all other side effects. Are you taking Incivek? If so, it reduces efficacy of Ambien by about 50%. My husband, who is very sensitive to Ambien, and took an occasiona 2.5 mg to sleep, had to up his dosage to 10mg during the INC portion of his treatment (upon doctor's advice, of course) Now he's down to about 5 mg. which works fine.
Avatar n tn Hi, Some newer medications like Zolpidem (Ambien) act more specifically on the same area in the brain and are thought to have fewer side effects. But they are still considered controlled substances. Sleep medications are most effective when used for short term situations. If medications are used over the long term, dependence and tolerance may be a problem. Talk to your doctor if you are not responding to the lower dose of your present medication and discuss what suitable medicine for you.
Avatar f tn Not sure you are following this post anymore - but it has been a few years now, how are you doing?
Avatar m tn Ive been taking Lunesta for YEARS. Ive never had any bad side effect or heard of any really bad side effects (cept for the aftertaste the first few weeks I used it). Ive never felt compelled to abuse it or take it inappropriately. AND, it never stopped working. I do want off the Lunesta to continue on my road to complete sobriety from all drugs.. I recently went from 3mg to 2mg with ZERO problem at all. Next month, we will got to 1mg and take it from there.
266660 tn?1189755834 Lunesta seems to work okay for me. I've only taken it three or four times (I only take it as needed and not on a nightly basis.) I was prescribed Klonopin for anxiety and sleep and she said to not take it with Lunesta (this is after I asked *her*, she didn't mention it until then.) The Klonopin seems to work as well as the Lunesta, BTW. Kevin, I've read that Lunesta and Ambien are the same "types" of sleep aids but that is all I know. I hope Ryan can clear this up for us.
9880688 tn?1414115647 This morning I got woke up by my husband....he thought it was evening...he even put a cornish hen in the oven to cook. So as much as I would like to stay in bed and feel miserable I'm going to take tylenol for fever, immodium ad for what else ails me, something for my poor tummy and try to get some doctors on the phone to try and figure out why he's getting confused again. I suspect, but only suspect, that it might be his sleeping pill.
Avatar m tn Well, thank God, but my cocktail bot changed up. it too was very inconsistent like SILVIA95GUY'S. however the side effects were unbearable. i had EXTREME drowsiness as well as a VERY HEIGHTENED SUGAR CRAVING AND INCREASED APPETITE. The most disturbing side effect was I WAS HAVING SEVERE IRRITABILITY AND AGITATION TOWARDS MY CHILDREN AS WELL AS WITH LIFE. that was enough. so the psychiatrist agreed with me. so currently my cocktail for the past few days has been the following: 12.
Avatar m tn At day 19 I thought I would be completely finished with these xanax wd's but they keep coming and coming. Late last night I watched a commercial about Lunesta and they mentioned that a common side effect was new or worsening depression. That caught my attention so I began to frantically research Ambien and every article I've read lists new or worssening depression as a common side effect. I've been taking Ambien off & on for the past 2 years..usually only 1/2 a tablet.
Avatar f tn It is not known to be physically addictive tho Large doses of tramadol or benzos can cause seizures if stopped abruptly and best to do under a drs care. Ambien and lunesta are not known to have a seizure risk if stopped...but if ur dose was huge, the possibilty would be there as with many drugs the brain becomes accustomed to. We are all different tho and some are more prone to seizures than others/but not common with cessation of ambien. You state you took 1-2, sometimes 3....
Avatar m tn I think that it has a stronger bang whereas temazepam is almost like taking a muscle relaxer its effects are gentle and relaxing whereas the effect of ambien is a hypnotic.
Avatar f tn To use very short term, possibly even skipping nights is ok. How many did he give you and for how long? Lunesta has some nasty side effects, driving and eating while sleeping, confusion. Did you try OTC sleep aids? Melatonin, valerian root, altering, sleep by nature made?
