Common Questions and Answers about Lunesta gaba receptor

lunesta

1580703 tn?1651904887 there are newer drugs like ambien and maybe sonata lunesta which activate the GABA receptor like benzas but maybe with less side effects. does anyone know how to cure my sleep apnea?
Avatar m tn It enhances the effect of GABA by binding to the benzodiazepine site on the GABA A-receptor. After binding to the receptor, may i know what's the next mechanism? GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter? If GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, how does diazepam can cause anti-depress? I heard that it can treat seizure? Seizure is a disease that is over-stimulation, repetitive, uncontrolled neuronal firing in CNS. May I know how does it treat seizure? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking the following for FMS: Celexa (depression), Ultram (pain) Vicodin (bad pain), Lunesta (to stay asleep), and now Provigil (to stay awake in the day). I have say, these all are helping, but maybe about 50%. The pain never goes away, only flucuates to bad or worse. The Lunesta is great. I tried Ambien & Sonata, but couldn't handle the side effects. Lunesta keeps me asleep but doesn't make me feel hung-over in the morning.
968908 tn?1274871115 It works by activating the organ’s most protective system against anxiety — the gammaaminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor. This aids sleep as well. White tea has a higher level of this flavonoid and much less fluoride than green tea. For those who do not want to take a pharmaceutical drug, the herb valerian has been shown to activate the same calming brain GABA receptor. It has been used to induce sleep but also calms anxiety during the day.
Avatar m tn s psychoactive substance called THC lead to decreased levels of GABA. Low levels of GABA are linked with anxiety and panic attacks. Most anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines are acting by raising the levels of GABA therefore promoting hypnotic and sedative effects. Activating the CB1 receptors is also linked with an increased appetite, sugar craving and sedation. The combustion of cannabis will not result in only getting THC but also other substances that might contribute to other symptoms.
Avatar f tn At any rate, the reason your pharmacist told you not to use those herbs while taking a benzo is they both target the same receptor, which is GABA. On the other hand, those experienced in herbs know when to take the herb so it doesn't cause a problem. There are meds that are used to ease the taper -- I think the two I've heard of are trazadone and neurontin. You might consult your psychiatrist on this.
Avatar m tn One joint smoked six weeks ago shouldn't be giving you that feeling still as you've mentioned. You could ask a doctor for a CEA blood test and that will show if any cancer is in your system. Try your local urgent care clinic or hospital outpatient or wait for a doctor's appt. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Hey Bear, the sleep meds like Ambien and Lunesta are hypnotics. They use the same receptors (GABA) as benzos. I'm an Ambien survivor. I got hooked on 10mgs for just 9 months, and it took 4 months of tapering to get off of them. That was 3 years ago. I still don't sleep good.
Avatar f tn The anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) their effects are produced by the allosteric modification of a specific kind of neurotransmitter receptor, the GABAA receptor, which INCREASES the conductance of this inhibitory. So basically cannabis decreases and anti-anxiety meds increases. And i beleive this is why weed can cause you to have panic attack and anxiety if you are prone to anxiety.
Avatar f tn They both work on the gaba receptor. Benzos (sedatives) work on the a receptor of gaba portion of brain and sleep meds (tranquilizers) act on the z receptors of the gaba portion of the brain. Yes I will give you that the z drugs are not as bad as the a drugs but both have pretty bad withdrawal symptoms. I know about these things because I'm a long term chronic pain patient, and long term benzo and tranq patient, as well as badly physically and mentally dependent, and addicted to all 3.
Avatar m tn Like the natural occurring neurotransmitter GABA (amino acid), it bonds to the GABA-B metabotropic receptor, and provides a calming action like the natural occurring neurotransmitter, and similar to other GABA agonists. There is dispute in the literature about whether or not Phenibut binds to the GABA-A ionotropic receptor, which is responsible for the actions of benzodiazepines, barbiturates, z-drugs, and for some of the effects of ethanol.
Avatar m tn I have been on Lunesta 3 mg for 10 years. PTSD and Chronic insomnia following a MVA 10 years ago.. Also, just tapered off Lexapro I was also on this for 10 years and it took me 6 months to taper down. Been on 1mg Xanex for 10 years and stopped abruptly last week. Stopped the Lunesta 5 days ago cold turkey, and same thing with the xanex- Severe withdrawl symptoms appeared 5 days ago.
Avatar f tn are you in big city or small town? if your in a city with a detox center (where they take ppl that are passed out on street) like central city concern in Pltd. Or. for instance hooper detox. go there and they will medically detox you with Librium (A mild benzo sedeative that binds to same receptor "GABA" that alcohol does and will prevent seizure). most likely, after they access you. if your in small town you should probably go to E.R. until you can get into doctor.
518798 tn?1295212279 In conclusion, GABA is great for feeling in the receptor that controls anxiety.
Avatar f tn I went to my holistic Dr. yesterday to talk about my anxiety and the possible low GABA receptor thing. He did some stuff and put me on pharma GABA pro. Anyone heard of this? Not much on the internet to research about it. I'm a bit nervous about it because I HOPE it works good enough for me. The 5-HTP kicked the gloomy feeling I was getting and I do respond well to SOME natural remedies. I'm going to give it a try in any case. I'll give it 1-2 weeks and see if it helps.
Avatar m tn HI get to the health food stor like gnc or others and tell them you need something to help with your gaba receptor there are natural things you can take that will help this out xanex is a bi t c h to get off off the right supplements can make all the difference........
Avatar m tn Taking this will help with PAWS ( post accute withdrawl syndrome) or eliminate you suffering from them all together DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE TAKING A SSRI OR TRICYLIC ANTI DEPRESSANT Dosage-- up to 300mgs a day 3x DAILY ( I take 100mgs 3x per day, start with the lower dose and move up if needed) L-glutamine--amino acid required for GABA production, that is the relaxing part of our brain. up to 2000mgs 3x per day..
6174032 tn?1379424509 Opiates work within the GABA receptor range, and our entire nervous system needs to be left alone to heal as much as you can stand. The less you put in your system right now, the quicker the detox. Don't try to fight the opiate driven insomnia for awhile. Sleep when your body allows. You WILL eventually sleep again, real sleep! You'll get through this in a couple weeks, with the 2nd week being nothing even close to the first week when it comes to WD symptoms. Just hang in there.
Avatar m tn this results in the various therapeutic effects as well as adverse effects of benzodiazepines. GABA controls the excitability of neurons by binding to the GABAA receptor. The GABAA receptor is a protein complex located in the synapses of neurons.

Avatar n tn the 2 drugs that cannot be stopped abruptly w/out the risk of seizures are alcohol & benzodiazapeines , ativan (brand name for lorazapam) is a benzo, so please talk to your doctor before stopping. just for some info cuz i know a bit about benzos as i am prescribed xanax (brand name for alprazolam)& hav taken every kind, alcohol and benzos work on the same receptor GABA and can be used inplace of each other incase of emergency , but Not together.
Avatar m tn What happened is caused by a decreased GABA (chief inhibitory neurotransmitter) induced by activation of the CB1 receptor due to the psychoactive substance THC you get by smoking or ingesting cannabis. Low levels of GABA can be linked with anxiety with high levels have a relaxing effect. You mention you take Ativan, this is a benzodiazepine. Like most benzodiazepine, Ativan will work by increasing the level of GABA by affecting the GABAa receptor.
Avatar f tn Its mechanism of action involves suppressing the formation of new synapses between nerves (not by activating the GABA receptor, as was previously thought). It generally creates a sensation of numbness or dullness where there was pain earlier. Both should help, but be careful about the side effects, which can include drowsiness, slowed reactions, and such. Hope they help reduce your pain.
