lunesta

1580703 tn?1651904887 there are newer drugs like ambien and maybe sonata lunesta which activate the GABA receptor like benzas but maybe with less side effects. does anyone know how to cure my sleep apnea?
Avatar m tn Hey Bear, the sleep meds like Ambien and Lunesta are hypnotics. They use the same receptors (GABA) as benzos. I'm an Ambien survivor. I got hooked on 10mgs for just 9 months, and it took 4 months of tapering to get off of them. That was 3 years ago. I still don't sleep good.
Avatar m tn I have been on Lunesta 3 mg for 10 years. PTSD and Chronic insomnia following a MVA 10 years ago.. Also, just tapered off Lexapro I was also on this for 10 years and it took me 6 months to taper down. Been on 1mg Xanex for 10 years and stopped abruptly last week. Stopped the Lunesta 5 days ago cold turkey, and same thing with the xanex- Severe withdrawl symptoms appeared 5 days ago.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking the following for FMS: Celexa (depression), Ultram (pain) Vicodin (bad pain), Lunesta (to stay asleep), and now Provigil (to stay awake in the day). I have say, these all are helping, but maybe about 50%. The pain never goes away, only flucuates to bad or worse. The Lunesta is great. I tried Ambien & Sonata, but couldn't handle the side effects. Lunesta keeps me asleep but doesn't make me feel hung-over in the morning.
1214626 tn?1288106214 Benzodiazepines like Xanax, Valium and Ativan and Sedatives/Hypnotics like Ambien, Sonata and Lunesta, work to increase the effectiveness of GABA in your brain. To the extent that they are successful, these drugs will produce a calming effect. You can use them with GABA. GABA will work without them also. You definitely want to wean yourself off the Xanax, which it sounds like you are doing. Good job.
Avatar f tn Hey all, so I got tired of not sleeping more than 4hrs a night after being off of Tramadol 42days and my Dr gave me Lunesta. I asked if it was addicting and he said yes but you won't buid up a tolerance to it... I would like to hear this though from someone that has taken this medication and has had to come off it... How hard was it? What where the wds like???ect.ect any info on this would be appreciated...Thank You. Jeffi.
Avatar m tn The highest available dose of Lunesta is 3mg. Recently, thought is that Lunesta, Ambien, and others in this class are very similar to benzodiazepine drugs. But I haven't read much about addiction or withdrawl from these meds. Seems like insomnia would be a given, but you could try melatonin or valerian root to combat that. Good luck either way.
2021910 tn?1339896686 so when I was in the Er last night they gave me Lunesta a sleeping pill to help me sleep I'm 31 w 5 d n my mom told me its not safe...is it..I mean babys fine n stuff but the hospital wouldn't give it to me if it wasent ok right ?
Avatar f tn It's 3 weeks since I've been having a pretty serious depression, including anxiety & sleeplessness. I was put on a new antidepressant LexiPro (15 days now), xanax as needed, which I only need to "take the edge off" when Im shaky, and Lunesta to sleep. This is the 2nd time I've used Lunesta.
Avatar f tn i don't believe anyone has mentionned gaba, yet it is supposed to be a sleeping and calming amino. does anyone know if it helps? i am thinking rls is a brain thing and maybe there is an amino for it.
1326513 tn?1276518001 Probably not -- ativan targets GABA receptors. Don't know how frequently you take ativan. GABA isn't a particularly effective supplement for anxiety. For one thing, it can cause anxiety. For another, and most important, it doesn't cross the blood/brain barrier well. A better way to get GABA is to take taurine, which along with B-6 is what the body uses to make GABA, but since you're taking the ativan, I'd be careful about this.
Avatar f tn First, if you're on any drug such as benzos or neurontin that target GABA don't take this. Second, GABA supplements don't usually cross the blood/brain barrier, so they don't usually work. The best way to supplement for GABA, assuming you're not on medication that targets it, is to take the pseudo amino acid taurine and B6, which together with other co-factors make GABA in the body.
Avatar f tn They both work on the gaba receptor. Benzos (sedatives) work on the a receptor of gaba portion of brain and sleep meds (tranquilizers) act on the z receptors of the gaba portion of the brain. Yes I will give you that the z drugs are not as bad as the a drugs but both have pretty bad withdrawal symptoms. I know about these things because I'm a long term chronic pain patient, and long term benzo and tranq patient, as well as badly physically and mentally dependent, and addicted to all 3.
266660 tn?1189755834 Lunesta seems to work okay for me. I've only taken it three or four times (I only take it as needed and not on a nightly basis.) I was prescribed Klonopin for anxiety and sleep and she said to not take it with Lunesta (this is after I asked *her*, she didn't mention it until then.) The Klonopin seems to work as well as the Lunesta, BTW. Kevin, I've read that Lunesta and Ambien are the same "types" of sleep aids but that is all I know. I hope Ryan can clear this up for us.
Avatar f tn Best way to replace GABA is to take PreGABA which is a supplement to produce more GABA, which is the exact opposite of what will likely happen as your doctor will likely say your more anxious can't sleep so take more benzodiazeapams which will only make it worse.
7191139 tn?1389055599 First, antidepressants don't increase GABA in the brain. The don't work on GABA, they work on other neurotransmitters, and they don't even increase those, they just alter how the body uses them, so Abilify and ssris, for example don't target GABA. Benzos do target GABA, but don't necessarily increase it, again, they alter the way the body uses it mostly. GABA supplements don't generally cross the blood/brain barrier, so they don't usually increase GABA either.
Avatar n tn I dont know why it is making me nausea. My doc then perscribed lunesta 3mg. Has anyone tried lunesta and experienced better sleep with it? I am afraid of trying lunesta because i dont want to feel so nausea again. I didn't take any sleep med last night...didnt have a very good sleep but still i feel nausea. I need something to help me sleep without causing nausea and to help me sleep like a baby throughout the night pleaseee.
Avatar n tn GABA contributes to motor control, vision, and many other cortical functions. Anxiety is also regulated by GABA. Some drugs that increase the level of GABA in the brain are used to treat epilepsy and to calm the trembling of people suffering from Huntington’s disease. Gamma-aminobutyric acid also stimulates the anterior pituitary, leading to higher levels of Human Growth Hormone (HGH). Human Growth Hormone contributes significantly to muscle growth and also prevents the creation of fat cells.
Avatar f tn Can too high a dose of GABA cause anxiety? I know GABA is used to bring anxiety down but I took 750mg. and my anxiety became much higher and my stomach was very nauseous! A few hours later I took 2.5mg. of valium and I feel much better. But now I don't know what to do about the GABA?
